How to reset theft deterrent on gm vehicles (Gmc, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Pontiac, Saturn, etc)

Omg!!!!! This is Candy. Im working at Sonesta. I just got in my car to smoke. And this deterrent lock was on. I panicked a little then something said go to youtube. This literally just happen 2:58am 8/23/21. So i did. I watched this guy. Mind u the car would not say nothing, then i scrolled down to your message! Well, Thank God for you and your message! I took a deep breathe, read your message carefully and watched for the little lock light, it went off...so i tried to crank the car. IT CRANKED!!!!!!! Thank you sooooooooooooooooooo much!!!! After trying every other method I could find this one finally did the trick. My dash light wouldn't stay on once I inserted my key and it never blinked but I ran through this 10-minute cycle and on the third try my truck fired up without an issue. Huge thank you for the video

I have a 2006 Pontiac Solstice. The security system locked up. Nothing would work. I tried this method after reading it in a forum. I had no external power source. My battery died. And now the key was locked in the ignition and wouldn’t budge. So now. I couldn’t even put it in neutral and push it. I quit. Depressed and defeated. . Today. I watched your video. In it you said “ It WILL work. Just try it one more time. “ Such simple advice. But I tried it. One more time. And it fired right up!! I guess having it off the battery all night reset the codes. And when I jumped it. Everything came back on normally including the radio. So. Thank you. For the encouragement. Saved me.

I'm so desperate 😩 Thanks God I found your video. This is my last hope and one of my last 2 options 😅 I had to screenshot the instructions you just give here and I'll try it this week. I have a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse LS that doesn't want to start at all, no power no lights but battery is "good" maybe not fully charged by that time. So this happened afteri replaced a map sensor that wasn't compatible with my car and it was the only code on the scanner (3 different scanner) and I also replace the PCV hose that I heard it had an air leak, i also put some new ac filters and I checked all the fuses on both fuse boxes that it has. So my battery was disconnected (negative side) and I went to connect it back and turn on the car to check on the lights (check engine light) and then all those things came up on the screen talking about anti thief and low engine power, stabilitrac or something like that 😅and others that I can't remember right now. So I just know that after that it's not being working and of course I'm not a mechanic (but I love to learn how to fix my own car) Guess what? My husband got mad at me cause he thinks I broke the car 🙄😒 After that I had replaced the Ignition switch solenoid and the ignition switch that goes on the back and I was thinking on replace the ignition lock cylinder or the whole thing but I'm not financially stable for this days. I appreciate your hard work posting this treasure video with all of us that are being struggled with our car 😂 I really hope it works cause I don't have $700 to pay for the parts and technician. 😅 God bless you!

Just wanted to leave this note if it can help out anyone else. I have a 2013 Buick Enclave with the theft deterrent light on. I had changed the battery and everything worked fine until I inserted my second key that had been programmed with the last battery. I think it lost the programming to that key when i changed the battery. when I put the second key in to start the car nothing happened so of course i turned the key again...thereby signaling to the cars computer that someone was trying to steal the car. So my advice...reprogram any secondary keys before starting the car after changing the battery. Unfortunately this procedure did not work for me...BUT thank you Renegade Racing for posting. This is what worked for my 2013 Buick Enclave.....remove the key....disconnect the positive cable to the battery...insert key and turn to the on position(dont start position)..return to battery and connect positive cable....wait five minutes...start the car! When I did this..IT WORKED!!!!! GoodLuck

Hey you guys I have a quick fix to get you back on the road! I've tried this twice and it worked! (My key fob is broken) it's risky but try having someone give you a jump lol I know the car heads are like alternator and electric computer whatever but hey it saves the day. It didn't work at first but leave it connected for a new seconds and have them reve the engine

2009 Caddy dts. Nothing works until I turned the key to on, unplugged TWO fuses for ecm/ing and ecm// pcm. Waited ten minutes and then all three keys worked. Yaaaa, Happy Easter and help me pray for peace on 🌎😊

Thanks for the info. my key on time was 15-20 minutes between intervals. 2013 chevy express 3500 van- 6.0L engine-65K miles. cause of problem was 9 month old Interstate brand battery internal shorted . only DTC with my scanner was voltage threshold below 9 volts. Local auto repair shop estimate by telephone to start vehicle was $600. THANK YOU AGAIN.

Definitely works. My 2017 chevy impala locked up on me last night when I got off work when I used the key in the door because my key fob remote buttons are worn out. But then somehow it started saying battery service so it needed a jump!!

I have an easier way for you! While sitting in the car push the unlock button on the key fob, open the door then push the lock button down on the door then close the door... Now start the car 💯🙂

This is actually the General Motors on board programming procedure. It takes a total of 30 mins. Turn the key on and leave it on the on position for 10 minutes and then the security light goes off you turn the key to the opposition and immediately turn it back on and the security light returns then you wait another 10 minutes and then you repeat one more time and after the third time it reprogrammed the key to the ECU

Hey bro, quick question. Could a worn down key cause the theft deterrent system to prevent the car from starting? Sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesn’t but I have to wait quite a while before it’ll start. 2014 Encore with 9 yr old original key. I bought it used with no spare. Thanks

So when you say "it may take three to four times until it works ." Do you mean 3 rounds of 3 ten minute tries?

I can still start and run mine but it’ll go into engine power reduced mode. It started happening when I bought another lmm and switched keys by accident (yes both keys work in both trucks) would this help me out? Problem is I don’t know which key is which now

I did this with a new blank key. At first it would not crank and security would flash. After doing this it cranks over security light is gone but won't fire at all

Tom, great video. This worked for me for about a week. My 99 GMC Suburban gave me the flashing SECURITY light and the reset/relearn trick worked. Now it's dead in the driveway with the security on and never flashes... no matter how long you wait. I have a new battery and on a charger while I've been trouble shooting this issue. Any other suggestions I should try?

I also already tried disconnecting the battery and draining any stored power left unhooked for 24 hrs tried again light still will not go off

I have a 2006 Sierra Denali. Put it on jack stands and think it set off the anti theft system. The only problem I have is when I put the key in I don’t get a sound or a light at all. When I put jumper cables the horn starts going off. Any suggestions?

What if your light will not go off. We lost our key I tried to start it by disconnecting the ignition harness and jumping the terminals. I set the security off. Now we have the new key made but cannot program it because the light will not go off

i have a 2009 pontiac g5 and i put a wiring under the hood to give more ground power for these vicheacles did that due to theft and then ecm went out oil substance was coming out the ecm cleanedeverything went got used one now no crank at all due to not reconizing my keys tore whole steering collum out can i cut the yellow wiring video i saw and do i have to unplug my battery.

I just keep turning the key back and forth , it always starts withing like 10 tries, 10 tries is far better than waiting 10 minutes per try

Hello I need help so badly!!! I have a 99 cadillac deville. I changed my battery and alternator. I try to start the vehicle it will not. Giving me theft system problem car may not start... i have done this method did not work. Key got checked says its reading 14 out of 15 in resistor so it's good. I did not have it connected to another vehicle for charge. Could that have an effect?? Some one please help

so i am having an issue with my 2010 chevy suburban, it started not starting, so o would turn the key back off and trying turning it on and off a few times and then it would start. so i thought it was in the ignition switch i replaced that, and now i am having an issue of it will start but it won’t turn off with the key, i have to pull a fuse to get it to turn off. any ideas? my anti theft deterrent message did come on once but now is off. do i need to reprogram the key or something?? please help i am loosing my mind trying to figure this out!

I have 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 my security light stays on even with I take key out of the ignition can't get it to shut off. Interior and headlights do turn on only hazards lights work. Only thing I can think of is a door actuator system thinks door is still locked. I need some help get pissed.

I had this problem and after replacing the battery everything works fine. When starting I was getting the Anti Theft pop up, heat wouldn’t work, wipers came on, hazards went on or it needed a jump start.

Hey man I’ve used this trick a lot on my 98 s10. It runs perfectly but it’ll do this almost once every week and it just started to do it more frequently. I let it sit for 10 minutes the security light goes off and boom it cranks but why does this keep happening? If you have any info I’d appreciate it thank you!

I have a 2006 Chevy Malibu that the deterrent system device light remains luminated no matter how long I leave the Key turned to the on position. I am at my whit's end with this crap. I even had Locksmiths tell me how to program a key he cut for me, But all it will do is start and stay running for about 15 seconds and cuts back off and tried a number of other thing and nothing I do works. Now I pretty much have a car I paid a couple thousand dollars for I can't even get it crank and remain running. How can I bypass this Bullshit? Any information will be greatly appreciated very much.

So if it's theft then it won't even turn over? My mom's 98 Grand Am has sat in the yard without the battery because we put it into her newer car. Put a battery back in it after 5 months and it will crank but not start, no sound from fuel pump. Don't see any security light. Think it's the fuel pump.

We just bought a 2018 GMC Yukon XL and occasionally it won’t start. No instrument lights or interior or exterior lights will come on and the key fob won’t do anything. I disconnect the negative cable to the battery and wait about a minute to reconnect it, then everything works again. We are not sure why we are having this issue. Anyone have any ideas?
