Note that this procedure might differ from model to model. Make sure your engine is STONE cold when you restart it!
This can work on pretty much any EFI motorcycle. Just do it.
I do this to every used vehicle (with computerized EFI) I buy (car, bike, or other.) This is good to do after any major service or maintenance repair relating to spark air compression exhaust fuel delivery etc. EFI fuel trims O2 sensor Check Engine Light reset. Funky issues that nothing seems to fix. After you do the repair, do this process to reboot the computer. This CAN help resolve those issues. But if not - it means something else is the problem.
This bike was a 2012 Honda GoldWing GL1800 but this procedure should work for any vehicle.

NOTE: make sure you do the restart of the engine when the engine is stone COLD. Do not do this with an already warm engine. It makes a difference.

@@HorsepowerHouse I just changed the plugs and replaced them with the standard iridium NGKs the bike was feeling sluggish and taking more cranks than usual to start as well as an extremely jerky throttle off deceleration and application through corners. I had previously loaned the bike to my Brother who was riding it slowly around the City and also the fuel seemed to be a little stale. I've been running an Acropovic can from the stock cat without the DB bung so after reinstalling the Db bung it partially cured the jerky throttle I also run a booster plug which also helps with the throttle issue. So I thought I might try to reboot the ECU as I have done in the past with my KTM 890R DUKE and 690R Enduro which only require a throttle reset and idling for aprox 5 min which I noticed works well especially on the 690R Enduro. Anyway I followed your disconnected earth to positive technique on the 2015 GSXR 750 and now it seems to be heaps more responsive and more compliant with the throttle now a huge improvement very happy as it seems to have regained some of its GSXR Mojo hope that makes sense. Thank you. Performed this on 2022 Super Tenere. Like a tuneup. Fixed backfires, overheating, bad shifts, idle speed, smoothness, low rpm torque. Did take off battery before, but did not drain capacitors, which must be done. Will repeat in future. ECUs do get messed up.

A 2022 with all those problems? You didn't return it to the Dealer? I would.

Actually doing it while watching you do it, not sure if it works or not because my throttle body is not electronically driven but it has a throttle position sensor. It went 4k rpm after I change the o2 sensor and now it's idling around 2k after resetting the ecu. Hope it stays this way 😉😉😉 thanks for the tutorial man I really appreciate this.

Same with any vehicle. When you reset the computer then restart the vehicle - Engine needs to be completely cold. I didn't mention that....

When my 2004 Goldwing warms up it conks out. I did the hairdryer test on the ECM and once it got hot, the engine stops. Any thoughts? By the way, cool watch.

Unfortunately I am not a Wing Expert. But it sounds like your ECM needs replacing. You should be able to find a good used one on eBay.

I would have a professional diagnose it though.- Before you just throw parts and money at it.

I'm having serious issue with my 2005. The red FI light comes on as soon as I get on the bike and start rolling down the road. I don't "hammer" on my throttle so it's just after I get maybe 1000 feet down the road it pops on. I reset the ecu/ ecm once before after spark plug and air filter change because it was doing this but I recently did the fork seals and had to unplug the electronic screen that shows the milage and radio settings and such so I'm not sure if that's why this is doing this or not but resetting it is not working, .... but I didn't reset it the way you did it so maybe your way will fix it not sure but I can't afford to put it in the shop, that's for sure. I also changed the battery at the same time as doing the fork seals. It sucks because I had it fixed with NOOOOOO issues when the damned fork seals started leaking and battery couldn't keep a charge. It's also running weird. Does kind of a loping/ surging thing with the idle when I first start it and let it run a bit. Not touching the throttle btw when I first start it. I'm just lost. I love my wing but shit like this just takes all the fun out of it!!!!!!!

Take it to a decent shop (or independent mechanic.) It could be any number of things. Take it somewhere and have it diagnosed properly. Otherwise you will be guessing and shooting in the dark..
@blackhawktim1259
@blackhawktim1259 2 года назад
@@HorsepowerHouse I have yet in 54 years to see a "DECENT" shop. They want to charge you for the most expensive thing when it's usually a two dollar part or sometimes nothing at all. Something unplugged or something like that and they tell it's something major.
@HorsepowerHouse
@HorsepowerHouse 2 года назад
@@blackhawktim1259 Find smaller independent deal with high recommendations. Or a mobile mechanic. I use them all the time. What else are you going to do? Keep throwing parts and money at it and still never solve the problem? At least taking it to a shop they will diagnose it properly or not. Then you can decide what you want to do. Unfortunately, RU-vid cannot solve all issues. Sometimes a professional mechanic needs to have a look at it.

@HorsepowerHouse
@HorsepowerHouse 2 года назад
@@blackhawktim1259 OH I know it sucks. I am usually against taking my vehicles to a shop. BUT, sometimes you need an "expert" to at least properly diagnose strange issues. Then you can decide what to do. I GET IT! :) I would search Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist for an independent mobile mechanic. And see what he says - for starters....
