My manager purposely dropped something on my head yesterday at work ( while I was the only black person/woman there to make all the other colleagues laugh. We have it hard out here.
Record everything. Dates, times, what was said, who was there, and keep all of your receipts. You will have to be the strongest person in the room, as you will be on your own most of the time. Regardless, recruit every ally you can. You will need them.
I can’t deal with the racism at work anymore. I’m always a target of bullying no matter where I work… I’m really depressed. Nobody is there to protect me… speaking out will get me more in trouble..
It happened to me recently… when you as a black person stands up to a racist your seen as aggressive. It can make you feel suicidal at times like you don’t want to live because not only are you facing lack of love outside the job, you getting abused there too 😕
@@Jayy8dis I got a lawsuit against ups right now. There go to us to paint black people as aggressive. Remember they must come to you. And document and record and keep your story straight as possible. They can't cover all of their lies up. They are bound to have a mishap.
thank you, from a black woman who constantly experiences this and ignores it for job security, whose constantly being sought out by wittiness's who want to lend a shoulder behind the perpetrators back ...owing to discrimination i'm presently in the process of training three individuals to take my position at work as per the story in my 20+ professional life - instead i shall have a frank none heated discussion then walk out- moving forward i now know how to approach the situation before it gets to this stage so thank you for broadening my mindset
Being the only visible minority, it can feel like you're held to a higher standard and you are scrutinized more. Alot of it is so subtle too. For instance, any mistakes you make is seen as more "serious" and "magnified" with harsher punishments. Whereas, the white coworkers who make exact, same mistake are given a pass ("Oh, it's a learning curve.", "Oh, it's no big deal. Everybody makes mistakes. They're only human."). It's almost like you have to work 10x harder than white coworkers just to prove yourself.
@@nandhan6637 you went to europe and most people are european. What did you expect to be different? Now that doesn't mean anybody has a right to be racist but it's completely normal that germans in germany are germanic people
I've had my experience with a racist co worker a few years ago. They decided to say the n word to me and I reported it to a manager right away. At first all they really did was put us on opposite shifts/days which is only a temporary solution. Before this incident I was very nice to this person. After that incident I stopped helping that person and stopped telling them when their break was. Months go by and she got fired for an unrelated incident and I got promoted.
@@SkyeMeester I agree. Unfortunately because I couldn't provide any proof they had to take it as a he said/she said thing. But after that I made her job 10 times harder by not helping her with anything. Karma did eventually catch up to her though.
Overcoming racism is not emphasized enough nowadays - I just put up a deep video on my channel on some strategies to overcome racism. I encourage everyone to tackle the topic productively and not negatively. Got to bring original thought to the table.
As a white person trying to help stop racism and help stop POC from the unnecessary harassment and disgusting discrimination this video really helps. In future I’ll put this method into action!
Let’s be clear as a white person you’re inherently racist and still to this day benefits from the system gets better in your favor, so please stop right there and don’t act like you’re an ally because you’re not. This video is insulting by nature to have a white man tell anybody about racism is a joke even the words touchy as if it’s a touchy, touch and go situation, when dealing with racism is insulting you’re not an ally the best thing you could do is just shut up and mind your business
the video is useless because we all know if you call someone out on being a bigot YOU will get targeted and lose YOUR job and all employees will turn against you. If you're okay with this outcome by all means speak up.
I showed the guy next to me always ranting about Asians the whistleblower link of our intranet page and told him should I ever hear another racist comment I would make a HR case and he would be gone faster than he can blink.
I'm working a job where I'm treated poorly because I don't speak Spanish , by the Hispanic workers , which is everyone except me . Wtf is wrong with people .
I’ve experienced this as well they think they are special bc they speak Spanish last time I checked the commons language here is English so fudge them!
People of all walks are failing to realize/acknowledge that the most racist acts aren't the names called. It's the double standard. I am one of the members of this Trust, and the state of Michigan has recognized me as a genius, and yet in most of my conversations, before I have a chance to respond it is assumed that I am ignorant, or cannot comprehend the conveyed concept. I observe how these same people have conversations with my non-African peers and the conversation isn't laden with negative presumptions. Until this changes there is no progress, and it should not be this difficult for humans to treat people based on their actions and their actions alone. I understand that some of you may respond in a way that requires me to interact. I most likely will not. I WILL ONLY respond IF AND ONLY IF you are willing to come to my production studio, and let us make you black for 6 months while we film what happens.
Mate it's childish behavior to me. Either talk about it together or ignore it to let it pass. Great video to create some needed dialogue. Thanks for sharing this with us
I’m Chinese, what my dad taught me: unless you can over power that person like your boss, be a boss to him. Otherwise, there’s nothing much we can do. 🤷♀️
@@thejamericanexperience2757 The older generations always get humiliated. Younger kids hate humiliation. If someone's mom wore something weird and doesn't care about it, her kid might not want to wear it anywhere and will most likely always try to avoid it. Same goes for racism. Kids care too much about what their peers think.
@@Gyum-gk8nc Would you be willing to participate in a 6 month case study? Our production studio will use make-up, masks, and paint to make you black and we will film you carrying on this way for 6 months filming what happens.
what can you do at school I kept dealing with racism and was tired of him and punched him in the face that’s how simple it is they will never say anything again
ah i have once, in my 29yearsold. in that time, "anak lo juga bakal ga ngerasa walopun di kremasi", even unborn and unmarried, i just saying, oh the one bloodline who should terminate what ever her husband jobs (dont try to use active land for funeral then). think my wise-kind of bloodline is no longer needed, they know about trunk bloodline give her birth wisely line. they used it for a business covered by "youngest daughter of mantan pangdam yang jadi Notaris/PPAT.", and make my mom paying it, so i said to them, its not my mom that you know that super rich, its me you provoke cremate who hyper rich. save by felt sadly and already had abortions is not belongs to another nations, even you (I already) told horse .. donkey is one of perhiasan krn kakimu lemah untuk berjalan sejauh itu, their words still there. (report after meeting for lower the price) is Indonesia.
I wish I had your phone number . We are experiencing racism in our workplace to a large group of people . I think I should say something, but no one else is willing to say it
i hope everything is better! it can be a lot to speak out but i know theyd really appreciate it if you did just to know there is someone else who cares in a time thats so scary
SO I WALKED INTO MY SUPERVISOR'S OFFICE AFTER HE INTERVIEWED A GUY. HIM & A MANAGER WAS TALKING & I HEARD THE MANAGER SAY TO THE SUPERVISOR "SO ARE WE GOING TO HIRE HIM ?" THE SUPERVISOR STATED "THAT BLACK KID WITH THE DREADS ? HELL NO, THEY'RE ALWAYS STEALING." THEY BOTH LAUGHED, THEN TURNED TO ME AS IF I WAS SUPPOSED TO HOP ON THE BANDWAGON. MY FACE WAS EMOTIONLESS. I WALKED RIGHT BACK OUT & WENT TO WORK. I WAS FIRED THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE I CLOCKED IN 1 MINUTE EARLY. L...
I'm so sorry! If you can get out of there and report the incident. If it happens next time try to document it for your safety, and so your perspective can be seen.
I hope things are better for you im so sorry ;; i agree definitely document and see if you can go over him if not please get out of there and report it. dont be afraid to have friends or family call in to complain as well once youre out or gather co workers to help support you if youre there
Im dealing with this now and know 2 others that are too. I have been called out of my name twice. I addressed it and now she has tagged another higher up to try to take me down every time I disagree with her. And where's my boss, quiet, because he doesn't like this type of stuff. Where is the president, quiet. Its ok, I have a track record of success and I have receipts on the incidents that have happened. All truths will be exposed 1 way or another because there are atleast 2 other people with similar stories.
lol I love racism in the workplace it helps me weed out the ignorant people easier. "you speak really well" "you don't act black" "I have the black card, I'm blacker than you!"
I get the hint that you have to feel disgusted first? What if you don't mind it? That's the problem. Also, this comes from a position of power, the powerful usually do not care about racism, because victims of racism mostly do not have power. Black people in America experience racism from White, Brown Yellow, tan, and other black people!! How do we get to have a passive aggressive conversation with our bigoted/racist/prejudice co-workers who quite often hold power over us in this miserable cycle?
I am experiencing it right now in my job, I guess. The person is not saying a bad word but her tone and attitude are always condescending towards me. I am hoping that my situation improves.
The racism at my work is directed to me only when no one else is around and I can't prove it. It's always my word against theirs and they are married to the boss. Also I have faced racism in other departments of the same institution and the result is always that they stand with the racists. So...that's why I don't say a damn thing. I need my job.
My solution was to create my own wealth streams which require zero direct human interaction. For everything else I choose AI or the internet to avoid dealing with biased humans. If I have to deal with humans I research and find the least biased human to work with. Navigating this world of hateful trash humans is like a game of chess.
I am a doctor. In the last 26 years of working in UK, didn't have any problems because I was in job with stagnant career growth. But now, when I have got a job with good career growth prospects people are being really unfair. When it comes to provide facts that I have the necessary knowledge like passing the exam, I am spot on. I have passed the exam. But there is a stupid system of colleagues need to provide anonymous feedback. People are putting in really toxic comments about me being quiet etc etc, Yes, I just focus on patient care and not gossip around. This is being a issue. I almost feel like putting and as you said, I am thinking of generating wealth streams which doesn't require human interaction. But I have to start from scratch as other than being a doctor, I don't have any other skills.
I'm Muslim and happened to me I did react in emotional way and I lose it and I still don't know what to do . Still single me up from the crowd I talked to HR so I can move out but still not approved yet
My problem is, some of the racism are indirect and thy block your growth. ppl are ready to make mistakes at workplace just to point out or bring down your values.
I'm white and have to deal with racism every to get a check and would 100% get fired if I say anything. My coworkers openly say horrible, racist things about white people and make fun of me for my race to my face. I'm nothing but nice and respectful to everyone around me. WHITE PEOPLE EXPERIENCE RACISM TOO. NO ONE NO MATTER WHAT RACE THEY ARE SHOULD EVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH RACISM.
your boss and the other supervisors could have used the "N" word, might not like jews and argue with you about other religions and might not like poor people, or Latinos or Asians and still at work people would either stay quiet or quit which are both acceptable but are wrong solutions...your boss might not even like themselves or might think they are the supreme specimen of the human race...that is what it means when people are like that...it fills you with anger...it disgusts you...but it is better to not get in an argument it is not worth it...it is not worth wasting your time with bad emotions
Meh. I'm a senior professional and I'm ok if we as a society must throw the occasional righteous face punch, depending on how severe the "words" were. Because this is the only language that certain people are open to hearing.
There is racism in work but it is not a problem because if you are the wrong colour you won't get hired, so there is no racial dynamics in the workplace. I found this out at the accountants, solicitors and other professional services in the small town. So I also found adopting the same attitude was helpful. But being a landlord the need to deal with many people is ever diminished by the use of agents and I have no idea who gets given the work etc. Often there is no need to see anyone, it is email, phone, text or letter. But now we get lectured on how wrong it is to discriminate. I say I am just using the same attitudes I encountered as a young man. Why was it acceptable then and it is not now? The people that refused to hire in the past should be destroyed not I - I am just continuing what they did to a lesser extent - by refusing to hire the children and grandchildren of the people who didn't hire me. And to add salt to it all the grandparents and parents try to lecture me about how wrong it is - oh the irony. What these older people mean is it is alright for them to do it to people like me, but it is wrong for me to do it to their own. So I hear things like times have changed, please, I was only doing what everyone else did, I'm sorry. Please be the better man and know we have more rights than you.
Never happened to me in irl because im quite the intense person and I believe im in a rly good shape ,but if i play a video game and im speakin clear english and some mfs pretend they dont understand what im sayin like wtf for me its weird cause i never experience it irl but online people are fkin cnts
Really? I wonder how often he has faced it? It is called historical, organizational/institutionalized racial discrimination. According to my CUltural Competency book, book on social policy.
I’m beat down by the term BossMan. I don’t think the young men saying it have seen as many adventure films from the 1930s as I have, so they’re probably completely oblivious to the fact that BossMan is English for Bwana. I wish I could strike a bargain: don’t ever call me BossMan, and I won’t ever make you wade through a crocodile-infested river with my suitcase on your head. Do we have a deal?
Now in 2024 all the job posting i see require you to speak spanish, how is this legal? ive worked in the oildfields all my life till i had a stroke in 2017 i cant do the work anymore so minimum wage or warehouse jobs are all i can do but still today after applying for work since 2021 i have not found any jobs that will hire me unless i speak spanish wtf is going on?
I said just like you said, "I heard you said ___ did I hear it right?" She replied with "oh psst you know I didn't mean that" and made me a sensitive Asian who makes White people racist lol maybe I am glad I didn't get fired for it ha
The notion of RACE was not created by black people. There is only one race, the human race and science is clear about that. There isn’t such thing as black, Asian or white genes. We all come from a common ancestor who began life in the plains of Africa. Some walked out of Africa, lost their melanin which was no longer required to protect them against the UV from the sun, the texture of the hair changed too. For some black people there is still is a feeling of bitterness and resentment because of both historical and current attitudes and discrimination. The notion of race began when a famous or infamous (depends if you are white or Black) Portuguese chronicler named Gomez Eanes De Zurara commissioned by the then king Afonso V of Portugal to write a book in 1450 in which he lumped all the people of Africa together and described them as inferior and beastly, however we should know that at that time, some of the most sophisticated cultures in the world were in African. Follow the money; a few years later the Portuguese started the Atlantic slave trade. Even today 2022 some people believe that it’s ok to mistreat another person because they look different. Religion or no religion, let’s practice kindness. That’s the only way to have peace within. People who have no conscience and no remorse in doing harm to others will have a hard time finding peace in their lives whether in sleep, in their dreams (or nightmares) or in the paranoia and fear that casts dark shadows across their waking moments. Let’s look at history, even now, what are the implications of choosing the darkness? When we choose the darkness over the light we might win a few battles but we can never win the war. When we choose the light we will always win the war. We have tried and proven over time immemorial that wars and division always fail. Why not try a different path and work for peace, starting with ourselves. Try kindness and compassion and love for our human family and see what fruit that bears.
Chinese and Koreans are the only real Asians, so they are obviously ignorant. I'm from a minority group so the hatred is far worse but I'm growing weary of countries that act out in a bigoted way. They hire my nationality national origin or other mixed majority groups but they don't hire minorities which is getting really sad. I finally burst out in tears today after the nth injustice. Instead of hiring by competence they hire incompetent then everyone wonders why I'm shy and have low self esteem. Life is abuse is what I've learnt.
