I recently picked up a seized Columbian Vise off of OfferUp.com. This video shows how I freed the vise and got it in working condition.

I like to soak mine in Simple Green over night. That usually does the trick.

Contrary to the caption, you didn't put the thrust washer in backwards. It was backwards when you took it out in disassembly, but correct-with the bearing side (pockety bronze side) facing the screw handle-when you put it back. The bronze bearing side of the thrust washer and the inner face of the handle hub, separated by a healthy layer of grease, make a great bearing. Good job though. I'm nearly done restoring a Colombian 503, a very similar vice.

Hi befingered. That makes perfect sense. Thanks for sharing. I guess I'm going to be flipping the washer (again). 👍

Hello Lee, the soft jaws on the other vice are held on with magnets.

Hi Nicky, that's a good question. When I did some initial research, the M2s were manufactured from the mid 70s to early 80's. Unfortunately, I was unable to find anything more specific than that.

Hi Tom. Interesting, I must have totally missed it. I thought I tore the entire vice down. I'll keep my eye out for it next time. That said, it's been working beautifully. Thanks!
