Can not blame marc not putting a different door on the chalet for covinience because it just would spoil the intergrity of the historical building 😊😊❤❤ 😊
What a wonderful addition to your garden and home. Good to know there are people who respect the history of old buildings. And we all will say ouch each time you bump you heads
Clement always wants to help out and be involved. Juliette is becoming more able to help as well and loves to be where the action is. They are a joy to watch 🥰
Wonderful to see the Chalet shed up. How exciting to have another ancient building for your family. I'm very envious but very happy for you all. I have enjoyed watching your videos and dreaming of being in France. For now we are in Australie.
So glad you were able to buy the second chalet. Even more special is that it will be tucked away in the woods as your children's very own enchanted cottage. What great memories they will make there on family camping trips.
Please everyone subscribe so this lovely family will continue these amazing videos. The garden shed is beautiful including that very special head ducking door. I watch Martijn Doolard who is restoring two stone cottages (with low doors) in the Italian Alps. He replaced the large slab stone roof with a new one from the stone on his land. It looks like the roof you were talking about Marc. He too, is doing everything to preserve the old. ❤️❤️❤️
Love the old Chalet as a garden tool shed. How wonderful that you got the second one as well. It will be the source of many wonderful family memories and adventures 😍😘
Thank you so much for the additional information - it’s as if you read my mind! (Or perhaps all the comments from people who asked what I was wondering. 😉) I’m so glad that you got a second one for a woodland getaway. That sounds absolutely perfect! ♥️♥️♥️
As you were talking about the floor, I was thinking of the possibility & difficulty of digging out the center for a lower floor, while leaving & adding to the granite support (those gaps). This way would create granite ledges for storage. Possibly a gravity fed sink for cleaning the tools? Another idea would be to build a roof over cover like she had at her previous residence, like a carport or Porte cochere? It could even have 3 sides in order to protect her from harsh wind & weather! Because she is an older lady in the twilight of her life & helping to protect her remaining beauty would most likely be advantageous! This building really is beautiful❤!!!
Yay! There IS another one for a family playhouse- in the woods, no less❤ Thanks for answering all the questions and for finishing off the video with that darling footage of Juliette in the doorway🥰
10:13 “Shingles”… I think that’s what the wooden roof ‘tiles’ are called. Such a lovely building! I’m with you… put up with the low door. I’m desperate to see the next stage of the glasshouse (both lean-to and tropical!!).
So happy for Marc having his own garden shed, he is so excited about it. Thank you for the Q&A....so much fun and loved the history of the shed. Congratulations for purchasing another for the family.....that will be fun!!!
I love this little house. I can perfectly understand why Marc wanted one. It is perfect as a garden shed. And it is wonderful that it despite its age still can be used, and not left as a museum artifact. And how amazing that you have bought another one for the family ❤ Good decicion! 👏 In Sweden where I´m originally from, we have a lot of these old houses in the countryside. I love them. And watching them now on the video, I can almost smell them. They have this very special smell of old warm wooden house. Congrats to the 2 new chateau additions ❤
It is a fabulous historic building & should be kept safely & to continue to preserve it as well as making it useful. Just remember to hunker down when entering & exiting 😊❤
Hooray!!! Marc got a (well deserved) shed!🥳 Every garden needs one or things end up living in the kitchen. Like at my house, too. 😘 Juliette has the most beautiful curls!
The chalet shed is absolutely gorgeous. You are saving history and making more history. How wonderful is that? Juliette and Clement are growing so fast.❤
Another very cool garden project! You built it like an ancient Ikea flat pack DIY shed. Im with Amy on the stone floor. If you're going to build stone foundations under the walls, a few more stones can't be that much more work.😉
The content of your videos are always so interesting and I have to say you are one of my favourite. Your love of history and the care which you give the Chateau is so rewarding for you and for us to watch. What a charming family you have. Best wishes.
Love this little cabin. Do you follow Martijin Doolaard? He's been building in northen Italy and has put a slate roof on his cabins. Thanks for sharing with us today.
Good on you Marc! What a beautiful old structure, so beautifully built. A kit shed from the hardware store would just be wrong at an ancient chateau. You're an ideas man, thinking outside the square. 👏👏👏
Wonderful location for The folly amongst the trees. Great idea to find an authentic building that matches close to the age of the château. Your efforts have definitely not been in vain!
I just love your chalet. I love the fern leaves on Marc T shirt. It reminds me of all the different ferns in my garden. There are enormous and tiny ones which grow wild around the mountains which surround me.
I read that King Charles had one of these shepherds huts installed at high Grove for prince George on his first birthday and that it's been used as a playhouse for George, Charlotte, and Louis.
So excited that he bought both. Great fun. Thinking that build should happen while the carpenters are available, since they know how it came apart ....and their marks show the way it goes together. Besides camping with the kids, guest house, man/she cave.... 😍😘
The second storey is perfect for storing less used tools and equipment. This is what we do at home. My garden tools are in the garage and we are lucky enough to have a boarded ‘loft’ which we use for spares, bean net, fleece etc. Far better than the kitchen. Poor Amy!
In New England Cedar shingles are a common siding material. White Cedar shingles will last 40 + years. Shakes for roofs are also a special process for roofing. The TV show This Old House is the best for this type of questions. Very professional.
Will you be putting in a timber floor in the chalet and complete the stone foundation at the back of the chalet (to keep some of small animals who might seek shelter there)?
Ooo I’d love to camp in one of these! I stayed at a place in hew Hampshire US that had Adirondack cabins which were about that size but open on 3 sides with canvas walls you could drop at night. It was such a neat experience.
To me it looked as if ther was a "first floor" in there, how are you planning on using that? Or will that just stay empty? Ah, obviously I wasn't paying proper attention. It's such a beautiful structure
Your commitment to preserve this structure is impressive. Love the carved hearts in the door and the bench addition from the beam extensions. What were the beam extensions used for midway up the structure?
What an unusual but fascinating vlog from you both. How exciting to have the space to indulge in this project. I love them, especially with the history attached. Sorry about Marks predicament, I imagine it's torture for him, but I remember all those gardening volumes he purchased at auction a while back. Perhaps he is able loose himself in those whilst recovering. ❤WCL
Love the size of the key 🗝️ and the lock . I'm wondering how old are the hearts on the little door , can't wait to see the next project.dare I ask if you have moved into the coach house yet ? it's amazing how you find all these beautiful things to make your gardens look just as old as the chateau xxx
