I have four 4-wheel coaches in different liveries one in LNER teak, one in MR Crimson, one in CR White and maroon and one in GWR chocolate and cream. (You'll see these make an appearance in some of my videos when I get round to making them)

Years late!! But a pro tip for spray painting, hook a wire thru the part, and dangle it , rotate it in front of the can. Working on the lid of a wheelie outside is more convenient than in the long grass.

ive been looking for a video like this about this coach for a long time! Thanks! P.S. A good way to fill in the coach paneling so it looks really professional is to water down the paint just a little bit, and work it into the corners with a very small brush

Great video once again mate. I like the way you refurbished those coaches to look like new and I mean what I say here. I have a couple of tips to share when painting models. I use a pack of those peg clamps that are available in poundland as that will hold the part firmly in place when you paint as the force of the spraypaint will knock the part over. When painting the lining on the carriages. Just use a wee bit of trimmed masking tape to make a smooth edge if you are fussy about accuracy. Personally I am happy with the finish as long as it looks right to me as I am not a professional modeller and I learn via trial and error :). Keep up the great videos mate All the best Ash.

If you spray the coach an orange colour with small, light patches of orange brown and yellow-orange, followed by thinned down brown artists oil paint you can get a really stunning teak effect.

Paint pens are available in various colors, including metallic. They often simplify the handwork in this kind of project. Pleasing outcome with those three items.

I have an LMS four wheeler which I bought rather cheaply a number of years ago and somehow has had the lining misprinted by a couple of mm on one side. So this video has given me a few ideas to fix this poor old coach.

As an alternative to a fine brush when you paint details like the gold-stripes, you can take a toothpick or something like that and chewing one end a little bit flexible and use it instead of a brush. Its way better for details.

I want to fine me some cheap priced hornby Annie and clarabel coaches or maybe some normal hornby coaches so my upgraded bachmann thomas can have some coaches, and while yes bachmann has Annie and clarabel all ready I just prefer the realistic look of the hornby ones but hopefully I can find some like you did but in slightly better condition but anyways nice video, also 10 cents for two of em (5 + 5 = 10 so it's 10 all together) is a brilliant absolutely amazing price that is just unbeatable! If only I could get those for 10 cents 🤣

Excellent work, and a good result. I've gotta couple of those knocking around in need of a spruce up, (well they are blue and don't really fit my GWR collection), but you've inspired me to have a go at absorbing them into Gods Wonderful Railway. Whats more I've always been a bit disapointed that Hornby didn't do a brake version. I have a spare Ratio brake 4 wheeler built from a kit, but as its got a longer wheelbase that the hornby ones its just don't look right. But I wonder if I can make one into a brake third by filling in some windows in one end of the coach and making few other minor detail alterations. Also I am gonna try dry brushing the lining over the raised moulding after a bit of a mild black wash to see how that works. It may take me a while to get around to it as life is busy at the mo, but I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again for the informative, instructional and inspirational vids. Jon PS - Doug. You should 'go goth' , then black finger nails will be a fashion statement and not a problem ;)

I was given 9 of these in GWR livery. I cleaned and left 3 in this livery, another 3 were painted in LMS crimson and the final 3 have just been painted in SR green. I have 0-4-0 locos for the GWR and LMS carriages but still need a suitable loco for the SR coaches. I discovered the problem with grease et al when painting the LMS ones. But like you I'm pleased with the result, although I haven't added any lining, etc. They should add some extra alternatives for running once the small layout is complete. This fits in with my mantra of NOT buying new - just too expensive!
@BudgetModelRailways
@BudgetModelRailways 5 лет назад
I was put into the cleaning with washing up liquid some years ago when converting plastic kits. We simply can't afford new, if we hadn't gone down the budget route we would never have been able to do model railways. The lack of a budget entry level range of all items is a scandal

Another great vid. Thanks. Have you tried removing the paint from your nails with acetone (nail polish remover). By the way: I meant that seriously this time
@martinbutler9999
@martinbutler9999 5 лет назад
if painting lighter colours, such as on the detailing use a light primer , then paint the inset detail before you apply the brown top coat you will get a far better finish and as long as your very careful with the brush following the moulded lines ( use a fine brush so you don't get paint inside the line, then if your really ambitious you can pick out further detail in what ever colour you want and if your budget can stretch to it give the coach body a clear coat varnish and you have a suitable font programme, that you can print onto self adhesive clear plastic and a craft knife you can make up numbers and even a crest/ company name to finish it off before giving it the final coat ,

Would reccomend thinning the paint with a small amount of water, you'll get a much smoother finish in 2 thin coats. (unfortunatley the humbrol acrylics aren't great anyway, i'd reccomend vallejo, games workshop or army painter in a pinch)

This was a version helpful video. I recently bought a Hornby thomas locomotive, and I am very pleased with it. Along with a Bachmann thomas express coach, I found earlier this year. Though the two of the buffers are missing, do you have any advice on how to replace those. The couplings are there, but missing a buffer on each end is a nuisance. Thank you again, for a great channel.

I tell you what IS a good safe for skin liquid that will pretty much tear off most paints off models. Dettol Anti-septic liquid. Just leave the body submerged in the liquid for a few hours and it takes the paint clean off, that being said you may have to wash some remnants off with a toothbrush and some fairy liquid. Just be mindful of various plastics that go into it for certain amounts of time over a day..>!
