This is exactly the tutorial I need at this time. My blinds strings broke. I am resigned to buying a blinds to replace it. But Glad I surfs the RU-vid for a lesson on replacing the strings. So glad I saw your YT channel. You saved me from buying a new blinds. Now I know how to replace the strings. Soo happy. I learned a new thing today. Moment of truth when I actually do it. Hope I have the patience. I think I will, because doing it will save me money and I acquire a new knowledge which I will carry with me forever and who knows might help a friend in the future. Thank you for sharing .

Thanks for showing both methods! Did it once with draw string that was too thick and had to restring. Was able to use the forest method since cord was already strung and the process went quick!

It looks like if your pull string only drops one cord the formula is Width + 2x the length of each string. Mine ties off at the bottom and does not double back over a pulley.

Patrick, if your string ties off in the bottom rail, the formula for cutting a new string is two times the height plus the width of the blind. Each new string will need to be that length. I just purchased new blinds that have no strings for lifting. It lifts from the bottom (like the cloth blinds). I watched a video instructing me to hang while taking out slats, but when I took out the buttons and untied the knot in the button (which were very taunt and hard to do so), I lost the strings altogether. Also, I have little loops instead of slots in the slats. Please advise.

Hi Debbie, Cordless operating blinds like yours are different than the blinds in this video. Since the lifting strings on your blind zipped back into the top, the blinds will need to be replaced. There's no way to get the strings back out once they retract into the mechanism in the top rail. What sort of repair were you trying to make on these blinds? Were you wanting to shorten them?

I am trying to replace a slat in my blinds, but they use this looping lift string system instead of a knot. Is it possible to do without restringing the entire lift string system?

Hi Kendra, There's no way to replace a slat without taking the lifting strings at least partially out. I wish there was an easier way, but there's not.

Hi there; this method doesn't work with cordless blinds. I'd check with the manufacturer before trying to shorten any cordless blinds.

What if I cannot raise the blinds (step 1) because one of the strings ripped and got sucked up into the mechanism? There's only one string to pull, which only raises one side of the blinds.

Hi there, You can still take the blinds down and complete the repair. You'll find the end of the broken string up in the headrail of the blinds and can remove it.

What about the strings that hold the blinds though? The ones on the outsides with the horizontal string connecting them?

My blinds look exactly like that, except mine doesn't have a cord lock that lowers the blinds. Has only the tilt rod. My blinds go up but not down. Crazy design. How do I lower my blinds?

I was replacing broken slats on my main stay cordless mini blind and all of a sudden the center string on both sides quickly disappeared. How can I restring my cordless mini blind? Please help me.

Hi Donna, I'm sorry to hear that one of the strings retracted into the top rail. With cordless blinds, there is a spring-loaded mechanism in the top rail that the lifting strings retract into. Once the strings retract into that mechanism, there's no way to get them out. This video is for standard operation blinds where you pull on cords to raise them up and down, not for cordless blinds. The only fix is to replace the blind.

My blinds don't have a hole through the middle. Rather the lift cords go through loops in the string ladder, on the outside of both the front and back of the blind. I thought this video was to demo that sort of repair. Do you have such a video? Is the formula to calculate the length of cord needed the same?

Hi Lisa, We don't have a video that shows restringing a blind with string ladder that has loops. The formula for calculating the string length might be the same as what's in this video, but there are several variations of lifting cords configurations for string ladder with loops. If you'd be able to take a few pictures of the top rail and bottom rail of your blind where the lifting strings go into the rails and email them to us, we can let you know a good formula for string length. Hi, We do not sell tilt rods. Honestly, I don't know of any place that sells only the tilt rods. It's probably time to replace the blind.

I went to replace a broken slat. When I unknotted the pull string, it disappeared. Both techniques have strings still there to lift the blind. Help.

Since the lifting cord disappeared, it sounds like you have cordless blinds. Cordless blinds operate by pushing and pulling on the bottom rail to raise and lower them. Once the strings have disappeared into the spring-loaded mechanism in the top of the blinds, there's nothing you can do to fix them and they'll have to be replaced.

My faux wood blinds are cordless. I tried to fix a couple of damaged slats by moving the ones up from the my bottom. The damn string retracted on me.

Unfortunately, that happens. When it does, there's no way to repair the blinds.

@@fixmyblinds I fished the cord out, untangled it, then strung it back through the blinds and attached it to the bottom with those plugs. It sorta worked

Handy video except there's no explanation of setting up the chord lock. You get to the end of threading the string and then find out there was a major step missing. Nice lol.
