Can't use your old dimmer switch on these if you have one. You'll have to put a new led dimmer switch in.

Very helpful video, clear and concise. I also appreciate that you discussed the lumens In a practical application such as reading. I was shopping for new lighting on-line and found what appeared to be a great buy for a pack of retrofit wafer downlights, but it turned out that while they were listed as 5000k daylight and seemed identical in every way but price, the lumens were lower - and I had to search for them as they weren’t listed in the description like everything else. I believe it was intentionally misleading and glad I knew to look for it rather than being disappointed by my new and not so bright lights after they were installed.

john4kc I saw a few of my contractors touch the wires bare hand while it was connected, they said electricity in US(120V) regular outlet won’t feel a thing, but if is 220V , it will probably get shocked...

Buy lower Kelvin ratings. 2700 = warm yellow. 3500 = neutral (daylight). 5000 = cool blue. There are other rations along the scale. The higher the bluer.

bought a house with the LED like you are installing and now 2 years later 3 in the kitchen have failed. they look like a strobe low-high-low-high. had to replacing 3 in 2 years not sure I am sold on LED

I hear you. one thing to take into consideration is there are different quality of LEDs some last long and some don’t. you do pay for what you get

So it's possible to have both led and halogen at same circuit with one switch. I have lot of 12v halogen spotlights and some of the transformers have started to fail. I wanted to change to LED but can't afford changing all at same time so while i searching I ended up on your video. Can you just advice if it's ok to slowly replace failed lights only to LED

Looks like the new bulb's trim didn't cover the old trim and now it show on the ceiling where the paint is different color. Is this the case?

I just recently replaced ALL our recessed bulbs and others with LED bulbs, but just bought the LED bulb not the retrofit kind for the recessed lighting. I debated a while on which to go with. I just screwed them in not having to mess with the trim.

I prefer the kit because the housing frame has yellowed now over twenty years. We’ve spent a lot of time and effort updating our home and it looks straight out of a Restoration Hardware catalog now so I definitely don’t want those outdated recessed exposed bulbs to mar the beauty of our finished work. Nobody does those any more so why put lipstick on a pig? His method of completely replacing the casing is a much better look imho! Plus we used the WiFi model and integrated with Alexa to voice control like all of our other lights, etc. plus I want to add in case anyone else still cleans their own home besides me that it’s much easier to dust than the exposed bulb.

DIY Home & Garden Projects so true plus it just plain looks better! My husband and I have twenty years into our home and marriage lol and I let this cfl bulb buying go for a few years until he bought these ones that have to be on for a good ten minutes before they really provide any light. I’m the cook and I need to see! Since I’d been replacing many other things to work with our smart phones and alexa I looked into the WiFi kit version of this. Our son (hungry Dino) gets a kick out of voice controlling all the lights. He can control the colors in his room which gets pretty annoying when he and his friends get to telling Alexa every few seconds to change it. If she could roll her eyes I’m sure she would. I am. My husband acted like he didn’t like any of this until he realized I set up the tv to work with alexa so now she changes the channel for him, controls the volume etc.. Tech. We are all getting lazier by the minute! Love it. Thanks for the great video! I’m trying to beat your time.

Gavin, yes if it had a watertight gasket around it. That would seal out any water or vapor that would go into the fixture.

Just purchased a house with those in it. One in the hallway goes off after about 5 minutes. Is this normal for when they are failing? Great video by the way.

Sorry, It nearly impossible for me to tell. Just make certain the insulation is not on top of the fixture causing it be be too hot. This can cause the light to reset (turn off) then come back on when it cools down.
