I am watching this precisely because it is very similar to my chairs, I don't have the panels, but pretty much everything else is the same, wood frame showing and all. Mine has the arms curved into a higher back and the cushions are missing, oh and they have wheels. I love the upholstery, it held up to my cat for a very long time before it started to pull, but she discovered the piping and finally the the wood frame at the top of the arm she can get to. I finally found a scratching post she will use instead, but I still catch her at it once in a while. Keeping a throw over it helps too.

I wish Sailrite would open a branch in the UK, it’s so difficult to get a choice of good quality fabrics here. Love your how to videos.

As much as I enjoyed this, a pair of sawhorses and a Ryobi AirStrike would've made this so much easier.

I may have missed this in the tutorial since I skimmed through sections of it, but how many yards of fabric was needed for this project?

I think my chair is the more complex. I have watched this video over and over and still can't get a hint on how to remove the bottom of an old chair found free on Craigslist. It looks like it's attached from the top (cushion and chair backing material attached). Any ideas from anyone out there?

Thanks for posting, Sailrite. A very, very useful video. Can you tell me what the piping foot at 23.14 is called? (It is mentioned, I think, I just can't catch the name of it) I usually do it with a regular zipper foot but it doesn't work very well on all fabrics. Thanks and have a great week.
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 10 лет назад
The foot for installing piping or cording is called a "cording or piping foot" The Sailrite Ultrafeed Sewing Machines have this tunnel for cording built in, but many other types of sewing machines require you to install a cording foot.

Where can one purchase channel foam?
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 9 лет назад
Depending on the type of foam you need for channeling here are a few options: www.sailrite.com/easearch#!&ea_q=Polyurethane%20Foam%20With%20Fabric%20Backing

Did I miss cutting the fabric on the bias for the cording? I have always been taught that -- yet, it seemed as though it was cut in align with the selvage here. does it matter?? Thanks!
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 7 лет назад
You can cut cording along the bias or straight cut. However, both have advantages and disadvantages. A bias cut cording will bend around corners better than straight cut. A bias cut will also not unravel as easily as a straight cut. However, a straight cut cording is easy to make and takes up less fabric. If I have a choice I would rather cut bias cut cording and piping.

Sailrite Okay -- thanks! I will remember that. It does waste fabric, so I can see ways for both.

What kind of presser foot comes on the SAILRITE 111?
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 9 лет назад
The Sailrite 111 sewing machine comes with a standard walking foot. We do sell roping zipper feet (left or right) and also cording or welting feet (in three sizes) for that machine. Let me know if you have more questions.

can you do it without the pleating? Im trying to avoid the sewing part.
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 7 лет назад
Yes, it could be done without pleating.
@Smokestacklightin

Can pleating still be done without sewing by gathering and pleating fabric then stapling pleats inside of pleated foam?

Hi Great video.What's the name of the channel horizontal line? I want to try and achieve it on a sofa?Thank you.
@SailriteDIY

I think you are looking for piping or cording.
@mistique24701

Hi I know what a piping is, it's more of a single channel going across. This is a photo. goo.gl/photos/iiPKgWLXTscfau1m9

Young man my (?) is why not replace the channeled form with a new one?. This way there will be better support for the fabric and when you sit down. Also I have cat(s) and once in awhile they throw up. What fabric would you recommend to take the beating/clawing of a cat(s)? Have a nice weekend to come.
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 10 лет назад
The foam could be replaced, but we found that the chair was still comfortable. If the foam bottomed out, which it may have if not for the backer board cut out and springs, we would have then replaced the foam. For cats throwing up you can't beat Sunbrella Upholstery fabric, it is very stain resistant. For clawing almost any fabric is prone to take damage.

Hi what tool did you use to remove the staples?
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 9 лет назад
We used two tools to remove the staple. One comes in a kit the other is sold separately. Here are the links: www.sailrite.com/Tack-Staple-Remover www.sailrite.com/Upholstery-Pro-Kit

what kind of chair is this?
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 7 лет назад
Some call it a round chair.
@sharonkendricks4777

Why is that hole in the seat of the chair
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 10 лет назад
Since the chair has a backer board the hole in the center allows the occupant to sit in the chair and not feel the board. It is important that the hole be reinforced or supported with wire springs, or it will not work.

Lots of wasted fabric here. Why six extra inches all around?
@SailriteDIY
@SailriteDIY 9 лет назад
I would rather spend a little extra on fabric than to have cut something too small and have to buy more fabric. If you feel confident that you can do it with less go for it.
