About the time you posted this vid, I was getting my MC. I failed the reversing section for a really good reason - the training was sub standard. They tried to re book me for 8 weeks later at nearly the full course fee and I refused. I rang a few schools and asked them if I could have an hour tuition. Most just said NO but one said no worries! When I told the instructor how I had been shown to reverse, he said this won't take an hour. I'll get you there in 20 minutes. He basically explained what you just said. He also made a 'formula' for reversing in a straight line and it works. What it is is this: Reversing look at B trailer headboard. If it goes right turn the steering 90deg right (3 O'clock position) and wait until it starts responding, then turn it 90deg left (9 O'clock position) then centre. Opposite for left. If the B trailer steps way out of line then 360deg+90deg then you have to turn it 720+90 back the other way (180+90) for centre. It is actually so simple he got me to do it really quickly. He turned the test camera on while I was doing it (without me knowing), then told me after I did it 3x that I had just passed the test. I was extatic because I was only paying for an hour in my mind and ended up passing the test. So instead of it costing $240 for the hour then having to book the test again, it cost $80 for the 20 mins and the test fee which was $110. It did help that I was already a semi driver but I was very pleased. BTW it is true when you drive semis that when reversing you just don't think about the steering wheel position. I sometimes look at the dirt or wet tyre marks and am astonished at how they snake everywhere yet I have no recollection of doing it.
love to see a video of that! thanks that's really well written. So many vids don't really explain the fine points of instruction, it's just like 'watch me the boss nail it you loser". My experience is that Truckers are terrible instructors who forget what it's like when they were new. Like so many yputube videos, presenters only repeat the stuff which is easy, the harder stuff requires effort, and you put that in. So many don't. They don;t take the time to firure out why people are just not getting it. It takes a person who is capable of thinking about how a student learns, like a good Dad. So many are lone wolves, competitive, without cognition or self reflection, let alone people skills, just incapable of the commitment to break it down, let alone taking the time to refine and describe their technique in steps, and watching the responses, and making corrections, to assure the student/son is getting it. I dint understand the point of the video, except to again say, 'look at me'. Despite his well intentioned effort to help. We all already know about the steering wheel trick, that's eay to say, a no brainer. I actually benefit from the discipline and enterprise it took you to focus on a specific task to earn those explicit directions. Thank for putting the time i to write helpful advice. That is a great start for practice in a yard or easy access jobs, most times you need to be all fucked up and crossed up both ways and chasing shit uphill to get it In off a street 😂, butttt just remember not to be a hero, you can do a few pull ups, you don't need to get it in one go and no shame in splitting a set, takes two min's and you will save a lot of angry motorists and potential damage to property 👍
Any help for people is good 🤘 Well done, reversing is a challenge, When I started all those year's ago, old bugger told me, little moments, little mistakes, always stuck with me Well done my man, good advance for newbies
Yeah but if u pick that one way u want to go, is it a full lock or start from a quarter turn. Semi usually starts at a slight quater turn then full lock to catch the A trailer.
