How To Reverse In A Car-Driving Lessons For Beginners

In this video, I show you how to reverse a car. It is a driving lesson for beginner drivers, and is aimed at helping you pass your driving test. The key to reversing a car is doing it in a slow and controlled manner. In order to do this, you have to either slightly release the brake (in an automatic car) or slightly press the gas and slowly release the clutch (in a manual car). You must also continually check your mirrors and surroundings when reversing a car.

It is hard because you are focused on driving a car but not being a driver. Focus on being a driver and you will find out that maneuvering is all you need

Watching this after backing my Parent’s van into a ditch trying to back out of a driveway. 😛. Was too busy concentrating that pedestrians were clear of the sidewalk, and the street was clear that I didn’t delegate any attention to the fact that the van was slowly drifting off the driveway. Learning the hard way is effective, but not the best way lol.

Hi everyone! I recently got employed as a Porter in an hotel. On several occasions, I have been asked by my Guests to help park their car, but lol I don't even know how to drive. So one day, I decided to take up the challenge, and took the car key, real-quick, I searched on RU-vid "how to reverse an automatic car", and luckily, I found this video. I got my permit in CT just switched to my new state. I’m pregnant due in March with my 2nd kiddo . I drove on a 30 mph back road it feels so fast but it’s much better than where I’ve kept myself stuck! I feel like this is so much more complicated than it needs to be lol. You just turn the steering wheel the opposite direction to where you want to go. Want go left? Turn the wheel to the right. Want to go to the right? Turn the wheel to the left.

depends on what part you're talking about he's talking about the rear, it moves right if you turn right and same for the left.

Mohamed is right. You have to be clear about your frame of reference. I find it easier to make my frame of reference when I am turned around and look behind me. In that case it's straight forward (turn right/clockwise to go right) like in the video. My dad on the other hand, likes to use the side mirrors and makes his frame of reference the front of the car since when you change the gear to drive (on an automatic), you're in the direction you want to go now. We had a lot of misunderstandings when I was learning this and it took me about a month to realize that it was because our frames of reference were different. >__> Seeing that your comment is from seven months prior from my reply, I'm sure you have it down now. In case there any other new drivers out there that are confused, choose a frame of reference that's easier for you and stick with it.

He would've failed the driving test at my school. When backing up my instructor told me that when I'm taking the test I have to keep both hands on the steering wheel when I'm backing up. It's so stupid it irritates me so much

I disagree as he says gas first and clutch later. As new learner I practised alot and found easy when I release the clutch little bit first, then push slightly the gas for reversing a car. It's quite SAFE!

That's one benefit of one handed steering, but it's not for beginners. :) As for reversing with manual car on a flat road, there is no need to press the gas pedal, simply release the clutch with care is enough.
