Last season was my first season, and I'm SUPER excited for my 2nd! Just got the clearance from the doctor go after breaking my 3rd metatarsal. Last season though I came to REALLY enjoy slush. It made going off the small and medium jumps way more enjoyable because the impact was softer, and the carving was super fluid and enjoyable. What really helped me learn all the carving you're talking about was I'd stay for nights at Brighton so when the snow became pretty hard and icy, I had to learn those body positions better to ensure my edge was eating in, so I'd definitely say doing some night skiing before spring comes around can really help! It helped me, and I was watching your videos pretty religiously as well. I probably watched your carving video a half dozen times haha. Keep up the great content, and I hope I can plan a trip out there at some point!

Hi Malcom, it was really helpful seeing the board from the low-down-behind angle you use at about 5 mins in this video. Is it feasible for you to do some more content from that angle, it was really helpful to see up close when each edge is contacting/not contacting the ground. Anyway thanks so much for all your videos - I went snowboarding for the first time ever in feb and was able to get linking my turns on a green slope within the first 4 hours by following the steps you show in your 'real beginners' video. Would have absolutely died if it wasn't for you! I feel like the low down angle for the series of exercises covered in that video would be an amazing resource for helping to 'get' when to edge change.

Great video, as all of yours are. Spent a week at the end of March in Saalbach which was ‘slush central’ so had plenty of practice. I now realise from your videos that I was doing ‘down-unweighted turns’ - I didn’t know they were a thing until watching your tutorials later - which worked for me, and it’s good to understand why from the explanations you give, and how I can improve next time. If I’d seen this first I might’ve sussed it a bit earlier. So helpful and informative as always.

Went to St Anton at the end of March and the runs were really narrow, full of moguls and super slushy. Could have done with a pocket Malcolm as it got so bad that the medi clinic was really busy. Good technique is easier to practice when you have time to think and be measured but when you're faced with several pain in the ass issues at once it becomes more of a mission to just get through it. That means you don't have time to react in the way that you want and so you start torsional twisting which then totally buggers everything up. Can't I just download a malcolm programme like in the matrix and then say - "I know slushy moguls!" Peace out. Much love ;-)

Surprisingly we had good conditions but occasionally the snow was very grabby , i had a freshly waxed board (universal temp) before we went and only Boarded for 2 days , any tips on spring snow board prep ? After a week of slushy snow bucklepistes i actually fell in love with them. So much challenge but so rewarding. Turning took some getting used to. The grip in the slush sadly slows you down heaps on the flats. Edit: i did use a board that was very flexible and about 5cm to small for me. I loved how fast i could make turns
@malcolmmoore

Yeah, flats are slow, but the rest is fun!
@Daz555Daz
@Daz555Daz 2 года назад
A properly waxed board is important as well. The slushy/soft snow can really have spots on the slopes that feel like you've put the brakes on as you ski or ride down the slope - the right wax will reduce the chances of that happening.

I really enjoyed dark matter, a recent one from Travis Rice, some of the lines they do in that are insane. A good free one on youtube is the union video 'Stronger'. Some of the stuff Torstein Horgmo puts out his channel is real good, and he's doing some really cool stuff with drones. But some of Jussi Oksanens parts in the old burton videos are some of my favourites of all time! Oh, and I like the stuff from the beyond medals crew, their latest video 'Relapse' is free on RU-vid.

also back on the slopes now after knee injury (learning: never land in a flat pit like i did in my latest Video). This slush is now really good for butters. Deep heelside carves are holding exceptionally well as long you avoid bootout or laydown. When trying to avoid skidding on steeper slushy slopes I feel like I need to traverse, but traversing is becoming quite hard at that point of the day due to the lines formed on the piste.

I like a wider board as because you sink more into the snow it's easier to get boot drag. Soft or stiff then it's just your preference, both work, softer can be more fun for jumping in and out of the slush, stiffer will let you charge through it easier!

never thought people would dislike slushy condition, because for me at least its the nicest of all the types hehehe. Icy condition is to ruff, and you loose control easily. Powder is great, but if you are not too pro is rather difficult, specially yo stand up again if you fall, and also riding on powder is comparable to a good day at the gym. Slushy condition just hit the right spot for me, easy to stop, stand up, and also for me, its easier to steer the snowboard.

The slush doesn't help with speed, sadly. I tried full send on jumps and it feels so sluggish compared to powder or even hard packed (which I abhor for practicing jumps). Had such a hard time trying to get airtime, and when I try to pop it feels like I sank downwards than going up. Oh well, next season it is. At least the slush felt good falling on it as I practice.
