This was 1000x more informative than 99% of the other How-To videos I've seen. Almost all of those were targeting complete beginner riders (how to's on attack position, using the clutch, braking, etc.). This is far more helpful for people like myself who feel comfortable on a bike, but need help with technique and speed (C class riders). You pointed out things I never would've noticed watching good riders do, because my eyes just naturally want to watch the top half of a rider. So thank you for the tips, I feel I can actually apply this to my riding. Keep 'em coming!

If anyone wants to look at ultimate smoothness and flow watch footage of Windham any time he rides. He is probably one of the most naturally gifted people to ever ride a dirt bike when it comes to being smooth and effortless. This was a great video and very informative. Using your legs is essential to have good control

Thank you so much for taking the time to self evaluate and pass on what you are doing while riding. Breaking down high level riding isn't something that you see very often if at all. I've been watching the lower half of riders for a few weeks now after watching aj Catanzaros videos on the attack position. It seems like all the pros use these techniques of keeping the knees down vertical and gripping and unlocking the hips to allow the upper body to stay facing where you want to go while the lower body can move around with the bike. This stuff is genius. Thank you again.

Wow, I was amazed at how much little stuff you do just to keep control of the bike very informative and helpful and I'll definetly try to keep all this in mind with my own riding. Thank you and please do more of these bike control videos!

Are you saying if I'm smooth-shaven I'll be faster? NOTED. This is great, JWalk. Not only are you an absolute rippa, but you're also educated and really well-spoken. You do a great job articulating your thoughts into easily digestible vocabulary and explanation. If you're back home for a while and need footage, something you could do would be to break down other's riding. I'll use myself as an example. but I could send a clip and you could analyze it and explain how I could be riding better. You could do this for subscribers, your Chapparel teammates, anyone who can send a decent clip of them to you!

Perfect timing! I have started to put more focus on just this a few months ago by slowing down and tring to ballance myself on the bike without having to hang on the handlebars. Did a lot of one handed riding and paid a lot of attention on my foot, knee and upper body posision and angle. Yesterday i finally tried all this full pace and my riding is way smoother and my arms dont get tired and i dont get blisters in my palms any more.

I seen another comment or two about this. Your style is closely related to the style needed to be a proficient BMX racer. When it comes to manualing, pumping or jumping. Everything is controlled by pushing and pulling with your legs and squeezing the bike. In BMX you control your bike with 90% legs and 10% arms. When I raced motocross as a kid, I would always be so exhausted after one lap trying to manhandle the bike. Fast forward to my late teens and early 20s, with 5 years of BMX racing. I jumped on my friends 250, rode three laps (including sight lap) on an outdoor track. And I rode those laps more fluently and faster than ever! All of the skills I learned in BMX are transferable to motocross.

Really helpful vid dude! I'm a little guy so "man handling" my bike with my upper body just doesn't work too well. I'd always heard controlling the bike with the lower half is the best way to go but I guess it just wasn't clicking for me. Seeing the movements broken down and explained like that made it a lot easier to understand. I'm just a weekend warrior and don't hit the track much. My friends and I are always riding in rut tracks and whatever is in the hills. This is a great technique for trail riding as well. I can definitely see how it would dramatically reduce arm fatigue.

The best technique break down video I've seen. At first, watching Your clips in this video I thought that JA21 is all over the bike while You're more of "text book" perfect rider. But during frame-by-frame breakdown I've noticed that You're seriously doing similar stuff with Your hips and feets. It takes a lot of hours on the bike to build confidence big enought to apply those things but it must be really beneficial. Thanks for posting this!

Jeff how long have you been riding? I think you are definitely a person with natural ability to control your bike naturally without giving it much thought. What I do like is your ability to make really good informative videos that actually have good information. Cheers to you and all the great videos you have done so far. The video on clutch systems and the different systems and there characteristics I think is probably the most useful video I have seen so far. Probably seen 500 at least. If you have not seen that particular video it’s a must see. Thanks Jeff and keep up the great work. True professional.

Hey great breakdown of how you use your legs. Just a thought of another video idea that could be very helpful to many would be a video explaining how far to look ahead. I know that most riders, especially in the beginning, struggle with not looking far enough ahead. I know for me I've tried to do a lot of study from video and pictures as to where in the corners/ruts pros are looking but there is only so much you can see from that. And it is tough because there is a balance of making sure you dont look TOO far ahead. I noticed Christian Craig mentioned that was a contributing factor as to why he hit the tough block at St. Louis this year--he was looking a little too far ahead and it caused him to set his trajectory in a direction that just nicked a tough block. I think it would be super helpful for a lot of riders if you took a few gopro videos and explain roughly where you were/do/should be looking.Things like where do you look right before landing off a jump, how many whoops ahead, where do you look entering a corner, where do look throughout the entire corner, and other things like that. Deep/long ruts (like Red Bud, rather than this track) would be biggest help for me personally. If you were to break down a couple of laps from Red Bud showing where you do/should look that would be huge. Keep up the great work man and look forward to seeing you at Red Bud again this year!

I guess I never really noticed WHY riders move their leg up and back when jumping sometimes. It's not just style, but they also use it to push the rear end of the bike back into alignment after a scrub or sketchy takeoff. When you said that in the video I had a sort of lightbulb moment lol.
