This video is how to ride Travers/ Quarters-In. This is one of the harder lateral movements to ride and train as you need to move the quarters in and maintain the bend around your inside leg. Often when riders start to ride Travers, they get either the bend around the inside leg or the quarters in but not both together. By catching the quarters on the last section of the circle, means you have already got control of the quarters and then just need to keep the bend around your inside leg.

Together with TeQ clothing, I can bring you a great deal on the TeQ tights that I am seen wearing in this set of videos. The tights are super comfortable and the material on the inside thigh and leg really helps when you're trying to sit to the trot, sit a buck, or trying to stay connected when jumping. Buy the tights and get a belt for only $10.00 NZD.

This is a nice clear description, thank you Kirstin! Should the rider's weight be on the inside seat bone? Also, can you post the link for the TeQ Tights? Thanks!

Hi Kate, The riders weight should be moving forward into the inside seat bone. The hardest thing to achieve when your trying hard with your outside leg to move the quarters in. The harder you have to push with your outside leg, the tighter you get in your seat, so just keep remembering to think about bending the horse around your inside leg, drawing down and long. Thank you so much for commenting on the link not being included, that would have been such a waste, so thanks. They have warm fluffy tights just arrived too. I can't wait for mine to get here. Let me know how you go with your Travers. Happy Riding, Kirstin

@@KirstinKellyEquestrian thanks for your reply! I am working on fixing a problem of always sitting left, and travers right is tough, so that makes sense. 😊 He moves his haunches easily enough, it's getting the bend that's tough. I see lots of 10 meter circles in our future! With an active and forward inside leg. 👍 I'm heading into summer, so will look at the lighter weight tights for now. (hopefully they'll ship to U.S.) Thanks!!

I have a connie that is arthritic in one shoulder so he is good on one rein but it takes him longer to bend a develop a smoother more balanced trot on the other. This makes him slope in and rush his bends and makes his neck feel very wooden. Aswell as walking in are there any ways I could properly loosen him up to make him more comfortable and uphill.

you can transition from travers to leg yield. It will help get his rib cage more supple and engage his core more. Once he's supporting himself with his core then he will be a bit less likely to burden his shoulder. :)
