I can see distances, but when I see a 'bad' distance, I don't know how to correct it. Let's say I see a really deep distance 5 strides away from the jump, do I collect the canter, or support with my legs for a bigger stride?
Hi Kirstin, thanks for your wonderful video’s ❤. I am a beginner rider and often get comment on my flexion on a corcle. I am told to hold my reins firmer and to ask more flexion with the inside reign. I am still very confused about the correct position of my hands on a circle, it seems when I ask more with my imside reign my hands aren’t level. Could you explain where and how my hands should be please? Thanks a lot it would realy mean a lot. Ps sorry for such a basic question
Interesting. I think I might be getting confused with using a squeeze on the outside rein to turn while giving the horse room to move out into a larger circle. It's all so confusing.
What about a horse that will jump fine most of the time, but stops at the last second every now and then. We think my daughter is getting ahead of him. Because when he refuses, she flies over him and the jump. Getting dangerous. He hasn't done this with anyone else. Could she be on his neck too much?
My horse has been a great calf horse for years ..I was sitting in the top 11 at nationals and he jst stopped working..won't pull anymore . I dunno what changed? Help me pkz.
Are there any changes in these principles for riding at the canter? My mare seems to bend and flex at the pole decently in both directions at the trot but when we ride the canter she feels stiff in both directions, her head is higher and her body is straight. She feels like a motorcycle through her turns, leaning instead of bending. I try to stay upright through my turns and keep good contact on my outside rein but it just feels like a fight...
Ive just started riding again after 20 years, I can get into a jump fine, but coming out of the jump i feel like im not sure how to settle back to normal - lots of videos show going into the jump but dont really talk about afterwards :)
Thank you so much for helping me, riding alongside yr 12, work, and other commitments is so hard, these videos help to motivate me and help take so much stress off my riding!! ❤
Very helpful. My OTTB mare is very hot and my trainer describes my riding her as me being in "survival mode". It's so hard (mentally) to let them go forward when you're afraid they're going to bolt!
Oh wow I never thought it could be me making it happen! I thought he just rushed fences because he got excited to jump but I think now it’s because whenever he wouldn’t pick up his feet to jump when he first started jumping I would collect him and just push and push and ride him forward really well to make him excited and let him know we’re going to do something you can’t just drags yourself over the fence
why do you slide your leg back? What does that originate from? I'm a western rider, to me sliding a leg back is a signal to the hindquarters, however I don't think I've ever been told to slide both legs back.
I have a problem, i ride this cheeky Welsh, and she adores jumping but she always charges at the jump i could be walking towards the jump to get control and she would bomb to it, and 80% of the time she runs out we are going to check her out for pain or if she is scared, do you have any tips on to stop her charging towards the jump and runnung out?
currently having this issue with my ottb he runs out to the left no matter how much inside leg I put on him. But this video explained a lot !!! Gonna try him out again. Thanks !
My pony goes to the contact by the bend of his body but he dosen't like a steady contact in the reins sso i'm thinking about using this tecnique thank you for the video !
Heyy kristin, thanks for this very much , i was looking for this kind of calmness cause i fall from my horse yesterday and today im having jumping ,, thanks so much
This is so helpful! I have a horse that sticks her nose out quite a bit. I don’t think she has the correct muscle buildup to hold the contact for very long as she is still green in her schooling. Do you recommend possibly putting loose side reins on whilst lunging OR just asking for roundness like in the video but little bits and then giving her head back?? Thanks!
Hi Kirsten I wanted to say a big thank you for your concise videos and all the riding information that they contain. They have answered all sorts of questions that I had and as I continue learning with my horse I will continue to watch your previous videos to help us progress. 🤩
Thank you so much! I’ll definitely try the second exercise (more advanced). I think the problem is that I focus so much on getting my pony forward so I become very naggy and messy rather than keeping her engaged and doing things she exceeds in (like walk to canters, shoulder-ins, leg yielding, etc). ❤😊
my horse refuses jumps unless he walks over it first then he flys it but everytime the jump changes eg from a cross to a vertical or the height changes etc he refuses it 🤷🏼♀️ as long as he walks over it hes fine but you cant walk over all heights lol
A horse l ride called Chester he over jumps loads of times when l always jump small on him because he jumps it huge I’ll jump 50 he jumps it like 95 cm can you make a video how to stop your horse form over jumping please ?
Hi Kristin, thank you for this great demonstration. Very helpful, I have a question on how can I make the horse go (faster) medium canter. U instructed the rider the "soften the elbows, soften the hips, bang more canter". Any other body movements/gestures to encourage the horse to go on a larger-stride canter. I normally kick and use my spurs for that, but don't feel it's the correct thing, pluse the horse is not too responsive to it either..Thanks again 😊
