I make a full backup with Make MKV and extract afterwards with dvdaudio extractor (not freeware). The XTC blu-ray's are very difficult to rip with all the different mixes.

Music Media Helper has a menu option at the top of the screen which will try and get the tagging info from an online database.

Really interesting. Although I listen to my bluray/dvd music via the original discs I may need these tools on the future. I assume you use digital versions of all your vinyl LPs and don't copy them from the albums. I copy my vinyl-only records to PC using audacity and then onto CD to slot into my collection.

I've only got a very small number of vinyl albums/songs that I don't also have on CD, so yes I do needle drops of those in to Audacity to get a digital version but it's something like 3 albums

A quick question for you: Do you know if extraction works 'through' a DVD-DL layer 'jump' [hope you know what I'm talking about there! 😉] I've tried to grab audio from music dvd's in the past and that layer jump always seems to cause issues - MInd you it's a LONG time since I tried it so hopefully your method works. 🤞 Thanks from Ireland! 😉

I have a suggestion for you because recently I’m listening to a lot of music by thinking it could’ve actually be @thebeatles but it’s not ! So my suggestion is that maybe you could make a video with a selection of songs which are similar to #theBeatles but which aren’t from them.

I really appreciate the tutorial, I was able to extract the audio of a live concert from my Sign O' the Times boxset. At the time of this writing, I wanted to do the same with the King Crimson 40th Anniversary DVDs and it puts all the audio tracks in one file. If you know of a solution I would be very grateful! For the time being I will use audacity to trim the tracks I am interested in.

@@_hitsuji418 If it's held.as just one file on the disc then Audacity would be the answer. Add labels at the appropriate points then Export -Multiple

@@AndrewDixonMusicI knew it was a spoof at the beginning! It was hysterical and sure must have been a lot of work and creative thinking. One way I knew it was a spoof right away is because there had been no word about a Mc collection from you. It would be very frustrating if that collection was real!! yikes! I know for sure that Paul would not have a cover with Heather on it. 😂

Hi Andrew, I tried to use MakeMKV and my Blu-ray drive to rip 5.1 surround mixes of Depeche Mode's Violator from the DVD, but MakeMKV only detected the PCM stereo files. Is there a solution?

Once MakeMKV has made it's files you can drop them in to Audacity and split by track, then export to wherever you wish.

The only paid software I ever found that advertised itself as being able to do this turned out to not be able to what it claimed. Sometimes the free stuff is the best!

Many reasons to give more options. Accessing some of the audio options is almost impossible unless a TV is also connected, which for a regular hifi system often isn't. Flexibility of where the music can be played (different players in different parts of the house). Safety of having a back up in case the main disc ever gets damaged. Plenty of other reasons.

Because I don't have a Blu-ray / DVD player in my car (but it can play 5.1 ch FLAC files)... Because my hi-res DAP takes microSD cards, not discs... Because by putting the files on my server I can stream them wherever I need them... plenty of reasons for me 😊
