Im glad you put together a video for this as that makes it MUCH easier to do this. I wish I seen this last year when I spent a few hours getting everything together. The part that I got stuck on for almost an hour was doing the USB drive insertion/removal and such in the exact order required. Just need to read the instructions/follow instructions to a “T” and it’ll work. This is the ONLY WAY you can get many DSD releases “digitally” (as in, portable) or for archiving purposes like Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, and Miles Davis. I use the Onkyo HF Player on my iPhone and did drag-and-drop into the files app to play my .DSF files on the go. Onkyo HF Player isn’t updated very regularly and is a bit quirky, but it works. You just need an external DAC that supports DoP (DSD over PCM) at minimum DSD64 (2.82 MHz), but the program can do up to DSD256 (11.2 MHz). You can do up-sampling of PCM up to 352.8/384 kHz and do real-time high precision DSD output up to 5.6 MHz with any PCM file as well. EQs are supported too, album artwork, lyrics, etc. On a PC, Foobar2000 is probably the best option, but outputting DSD natively gets tricky. You need an external DAC of course but you need to install ASIO drivers and a few other things to get DSD native to work. Personally, I always ripped both stereo and multi-channel at the same time because I know I would end up doing it later I also suggest assigning your Blu-ray player a fixed/static IP address as well. If you use automatic settings, the address may occasionally change and this eliminates needing to find the address. The guide I read suggested keeping the DSD output setting on the player enabled instead of outputting PCM. Im not sure if it makes a difference at all, but based on your video it makes no difference. Just gotta make sure you have the SACD layer set instead of CD. Im sorry for rambling, but I am just really happy someone made a video on doing this. thanks for this. i had an sacd/dvd-audio setup 20 years ago but then when the receiver with the 5.1 inputs died i sold all but two of my discs, the player, and moved on. recently was talking with my brother and started thinking about it again. fast forward and i have a used sony bdp5100 on order to rip the two SACDs i hung onto (Steely Dan Gaucho and Dark Side) for playing back on my Denon receiver. can’t wait to hear them again for the first time in close to two decades.

I used a sony 5100 that I ordered on ebay with remote. Followed the steps exactly and it works perfectly. Ripped the dsd files loaded on my roon nucleus and they play gloriously on my HIRose R520. Thanks Mike!!
you can definitely download the files and put them on the R520 (you'll need to add the hdd). Then it will play the DSD file directly from there. I just use Roon and like the access to the files on other devices including ARC, even if they aren't played natively in DSD all the time. The R520 is fantastic. I use it with 2 Forte iii's. @@nickolaymiltenov
Intriguing! Nobody has posted to say if they preferred the sound of the DSD files from a DSD capable DAC over listening to the SACD from the player (which would normally be PCM I believe).
I've read that in Stereo there's little to no audible improvement either way. Which makes sense because SACD was always supposed to be a multichannel experience anyways.
Used a BDP-4100 and within 3 hours of it being delivered I had 2 sacds ripped following your guide. Only issue was the addition steps needed to get the exe file extracted on my Mac - all described on the GUI download page. Otherwise followed your steps and very grateful.
This tutorial is huge confidence boost to me as I sat on this idea of ripping SACD titles for years but never got to it. Just found some BDP-S5100 players online but I have to import it from Japan so a little risky and pricey. But I have few SACD titles and few of them are in Multichannel and can't wait to hear it fully so if these are all it takes to be able play those multichannel tracks elsewhere other than the disc player itself, I'd say it's worth a try. My highest priority is to rip my early SACD single layer titles and later SHM-SACD titles in single layer only as those don't carry CD layer and can't be played on anything but combo or Blu-ray/SACD dedicated player.
Mike, I am so glad I found your video as I have a rather large collection of SACDs and have been trying to use them with a LUMIN P1 I just picked up. (I highly recommend the player). I picked up a Sony Blu-Ray player on EBAY for $30 and your step-by-step instructions worked like a charm. 😉 One question I have is were you able to get the metadata with the transfer? I saw someone mention to transfer as .dsf but I think that's the default so I am not sure what else to try. If you have any suggestions, please let me know and thanks again for this great video!!!
The metadata should be embedded in the file I will take another look and see if I can find a solution. Thank you for the kind words and I am glad it worked out!
Thanks for that Mike, finally got round to trying it over the weekend with a BDP-S4100 I already had and after a few hitches (user error) it worked like a dream. Used Spoon's excellent dBpoweramp to convert to 24/96 FLAC. Just off to compare to Red Book layers 👍
Thanks for the tips, I have been following your thread in hifi haven, too bad my newly bought X800M2 player not able to rip SACD, I have followed the steps both in the thread and this informative youtube. Nevertheless I am able to extract the DSD to my DAC via HDMI/I²S interface, but that's via physical SACD played. I just ordered a Sony BDP S590 from eBay , main purpose is to rip SACD in dsf files to play on DAP and stored in SSD for network media player.

@@audioarkitekts That's awesome, thanks. I fought my way through it, took a while but I finally figured it out on my own. One thing I wanted to add, whether you change your instructions or not is of course up to you, but one of the dumbest parts is what hung me up. For all you amateur Windows rookies like me, when you "Open the SACD Extract GUI", you don't run the EXE file, it just blips and disappears. You run the .JAR file and tell it to open with Java when it pops up. I was stuck on that for a day not knowing what the heck I was doing and fighting with my OS thinking AV or something was killing it when the entire time, I was trying to run the wrong program. And thanks for your effort. I would have never figured this out had I not stumbled on your YT video. I've been ripping my SACD collection non-stop since I got this figured out. Having them digitized on the network is going to be AWESOME!

hi Audio Arkitekts, I need some clarifications on the connections required when ripping the SACD. Do you need to connect the blu-ray player to the internet? do you also need to connect the blu-ray player to your PC? but my desktop PC only has 1 LAN port that is already connected to my router internet LAN port (also only 1 LAN port) that connects to my PC. There are no more extra LAN ports (be it from my router or desktop) to connect the blu-ray player. How am I going to connect my blu-ray player to my PC and Internet at the same time? Do I really have to do that? Please enlighten. Thank you.
Mike, thank you for doing this! I have one question. When using Rufus to format the flash drive, Rufus requests that you make a boot selection or make it non bootable. If you choose disk or ISO image, you must select a file...What file should I select...and is it something to be downloaded? Thanks again!
@@audioarkitekts Thanks very much...now I have it working...extracting as I write this. I found it easier to run the command line interface as administrator and use diskpart to format the flash drive as FAT32 and MBR. Only hiccup was not putting the extract program at the root the first time. Thanks again.
So I got to the part where you do the test and it says accessible for me. But when I hit run it doesn’t seem to do anything. I hit print so it shows all the info when roping, but it just acts like it’s frozen. Didn’t do anything for about 40 minutes. Am I doing something wrong?

@@audioarkitekts Awesome (both the original article and updating the link). BTW, your instructions say that you need a remote to control the Blu-Ray player. Many TVs support HDMI-CEC through which you can use your TV's remote to control the Blu-Ray player, thus eliminating the need for a special remote.

GUI extract program will not run on any of my PCs. I overrode the security warning. After that when trying to run the program, the screen flashes and nothing happens and it does no show a running program in the task manager.
You've most likely clicked on sacd_extract.exe. This is a command line utility and if you launch it from Windows Explorer it'll quickly pop up the command window and immediately close it out. You need to click on SACDExtractGUI.jar instead.
Thanks. This was a good beginning. I had trouble opening SACDExtractGUI until I put it into a Windows Batch File. Now we need some further instruction on how to produce .dsf files that do not make a "click" between tracks. Do you know how to do that?
