I have no idea why so many commentators are so upset. You can literally harvest your own ethylene to do this with by wrapping up whatever fruit you want to ripen with an already ripe apple. The apple emits so much ethylene you can ripen other produce fast. Excellent trick to use with green bananas or avacados that are refusing to turn, and they taste great.

Apart from Avocados (which only ripen when off the tree), almost everything ripened with ethylene taste like crap compared to the natural process, especially tomatoes and stone-fruits. Stuff like cabbage, herbs, onions, peppers, little to no difference IMHO.

You re very right. If a fruit is little unripe its ok to let it in a steady warm place, were sun gets in like plant house and gets naturally tasty.

kylek29 It's BBC Worldwide that are the issue there, the deal's much more difficult since they have to work with TV channels paying for the content and the matter of business interests come in to play much more. For the UK it's just the BBC which is paid by a license fee so there isn't any conflict of interest for iPlayer. VPNs are quite popular these days...

they doing something wrong cause I can not get anything from stores anymore THAT KEEP! WE have to stop the madness and go to local farmers vs stores bringing food in from other countries when so much also can be gotten locally and fresher and SAFER most likely.

Sorry this is a terrible control at 0:48. Why not put the control banana in a jar as well, so we can see the effect of only ethylene? Temperature and Humidity are not controlled for.

Amazing. I'm a big fan of our predecessors. All the stuff they've figured out to improve our lives. I guess someone will be screeching for a ban of ethylene at some point though. Unless they're busy trying to ban dihydrogen monoxide.
