In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of www.iamalpham.com www.aaronmarino.com and www.peteandpedro.com,
talks about the different types of men's hats and how to wear them. Men's hats are a cool way to add interest and dimension to an outfit.
Up until the late 1960s, men wore hats. Aaron Marino of alpha m. gives examples from TV (Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men) as well as celebrities. For the last 40 years, the predominate hat has been the baseball cap. Well, classic men's hats are back in a big way. Men are paying attention to their entire outfit with the devil being in the details, and men are dressing with purpose.
Men can add depth and dimension to an outfit as well as elevate their style to the next level by trying new and different things like hats. Alpha is not a hat guy. He explains that he has ears to contend with. You will only know if you're a hat guy if you try and experiment. Alpha displays how hats can take an outfit from 'good to great' after discussing how to style the following:

You are spot on. Hats take you to the next level of looking coordinated and well dressed. I like how your hat is as unique as you are. You don't see your ears as a reason not to wear hats, but rather you find a way to create your own style by tucking one ear in. Now THAT is how to "rock" a hat. Looks great.

I love hats. Scally caps (flat cap) are some of my favorite styles. Just starting to get into fedoras ( smaller brims ). Ordered a few styles of them from a hat site from Cali.

Some of those first pictures of “fedoras” are actually Trilbies. The Trilby is a much shorter brimmed hat, typically 2 inches or less. Most fedoras have brims of at least 2 1/4 inches, and the classic fedora, like Humphrey Bogart wears, has a brim of 2 1/2 inches.

Smaller Men's formal hats like the trilby and fedora have a pretty nasty stigma lately with the whole "neckbeard" archetype. It is going to take a pretty long time before the average guy can pick one up and put one on. That said, the long brims are looking pretty good right now.

I personally have a brown wool wide-brimmed fedora (as in, the brim is a good 2.5 or 3 inches) that works with most outfits, but goes best with a darker khaki longcoat I picked up not too long ago. Puts some artificial bulk on me (which I need), and goes well with the long-haired look that I prefer. Still yet to find _the_ shirt to go with it, but it's still a good look.

Left out what I think is an important part of wearing a hat, and that is that a hat goes on TOP of your head, not on the back. A fedora or a bowler is not a yarmulke! A good rule of thumb is how the military wears hats. The brim should sit two finger widths above the bridge of your nose. If you have to tip it back for visibility, fine, but reseat it when you're done. And take your damn hat off inside. Hallways, corridors, lobbies are not "inside", so leave it on until you get to the office/store/wherever. And if a lady steps into the elevator with you, take it off. This little gesture is how a gentleman wears a hat!

I was wondering if you had any advice on where to buy a hat, baseball and flatcap, for men with small heads. Obviously, there will be different websites. There are many for baseball caps, but when it comes to flatcaps I had found one that catered toward the shorter smaller head man, Goorin Brothers. They used to have a XS size, but they have since discontinued the size. Any idea where I could find flat caps or some other styles they have from another company for smaller sized head men.

Hey Alpha...Thx for the great video...The hat (fedora) went out of style when John F Kennedy seduced women with his unadorned hair; guys everywhere decided to dump the hat. I'm 67 years old (eyewitness to the hat massacre) but continued wearing groovy fedoras my whole life, still do.

I must have at least 20 hats, trilby, pork pies, beanies, flat caps news boys etc. Not one Baseball cap which obviously has not place in a gentlemen’s wardrobe. It goes with baggy arsed track bottoms or Dad shorts & football shirts. The essence of a hat is to buy the correct size which usually means spending a bit of money. If Alpha male was wearing the correct size & style he would look really cool. It’s about going to a good hat shop & experimenting in front of a mirror. I was in a bar one night last year wearing a pork pie when three young men approached me & one said it takes a certain kind of man to wear a hat to which i replied one who is comfortable with himself!

All the pictures you showed of "fedoras" were actually trilbys. Trilbys have snap brims fedoras have much wider brims that you can forme to different shapes.

At my school, a lot of guys blatantly try to stand out by wearing hats (particularly fedoras), but they just end up looking like they're trying too hard. If you can rock a hat, it's pretty dope but a lot of people just look awkward and comical. It's unfair but basically if you're good looking, then it will look good on you. If you look ugly/awkward, the hat will make you look even worst. It's the way of the world lol.

+Skyrising The issue is that most people just walk into a store and by a hat, not taking into account their head shape, or who they are as a person. Even if you're a very attractive guy, you're still going to look stupid if you're wearing a hat that's a size too small, and that doesn't fit your personality (like Pharrell Williams trying to wear his giant mountain hat). If you see a person without a lot of confidence, trying to carry a trilby, tell them to stop. Tell them, it's like them trying to pull of wearing a brown leather jacket. It takes some confidence, because some clothing are characterised by a certain type of personality. Tell them to go for a flatcap or a cadet instead.

+Mir ali Depends on who you are as a person. A fedora has a wider brim, giving you a more stylised and classic look, but is also more of a statement to wear. A trilby is a modern and elegant type of hat, that's popular with the ladies, but it also has some (negative) opinions surrounding it. From my experience, a fedora is more for reserved people, who can hide behind the wide brim, holding a certain type of mystery to them. While a trilby is more for confident people, who don't mind the extra attention, because who really cares what other people think. Either way, you have to go into a hat shop and take a look for yourself. Hats are like sunglasses, you have to find the one that fits your head shape.
