I did it on a smaller scale! It made me feel alive!!! seriously, if you find yourself here...go try it. The moment I realized I did it was something I want to feel again and again! After my last spine surgery, I don't get out much but now I can't wait to go for a walk, see what I can find and show myself how I can go and I can do! Thank you for the inspiration!

It's always so interesting how such small things can have such a big impact! The first obstacle is the biggest obstacle, which is to get past negativity and doubt. It's great to hear you got past that first step :) If you can make it a weekly or daily practice, it's a great meditation practice to help focus the breath and calm the mind. Sending healing and positive vibes your way!

Your right! Because I didn't think I could balance 4 river rocks on each other but I did. I am harpist and I am always looking for people who understand the energy around us. I was out playing my harp one evening by the ocean I was sitting on a rock over looking the water when I noticed that something was looking up at me, and really listening to me play my harp. It had been there the whole time. I felt its presence but it's energy was gentle. So I went on playing, A prayer for peace. After a while the water begin to move rather deep and out came this huge humpback whale. She came up to me slowly and I really did not know what to do. So I just play my harp and began to sing as I played. She started singing to. What a beautiful voice she has. And it's perfect with the harp. I played in the gentle Dorian mode this she loved, I recorded our song and use it for meditation. Like Yoda would say the force is everywhere.

Travis, you are speaking to my purpose. I believe that people can come together, balance rocks which reflect what's going on in their lives and together discover their personal power and unlimited potential. How might I support your brilliant insight into the personal breakthrough created through rock balancing and how we might pass this on to the world? Thank you for holding the space for this possibility.
@TravisRuskus
@TravisRuskus 8 лет назад
Thanks for the kind words! I would suggest for you to take your balances farther than you think is possible... I do this every time I make new work. I'm never satisfied with balancing rocks in a way that I have previously done. I always love to explore the edge. A lot of the time I am met with failure, but it is through those few moments when the balance occurs and I reach a new level that it all is worth it. It's extremely hard to show people this insight of what balancing rocks truly means and I have found that the best way to pass on this knowledge is simply living in the truth and presence that this practice provides. Cheers

Nice! I'm super curious: on a scale of 1-10, how difficult was it for you? 1 = very easy, 10 = very hard...
@Tyomne
@Tyomne 8 лет назад
I found it fairly easy and quite enjoyable even when it wasn't. I'd say for what I did, it was a 3 - 5. I'm having a difficult time at times just imagining what is possible or not. I have a smooth oblong pebble that I'm trying to balance upright on a smooth table, and I'm not sure if it's possible or not, whether the table is too smooth or the pebble too round... I was able to balance a crystal horizontally on top of the smooth pebble while it was balanced on its side. I'd say it is more difficult than balancing coins. I'm very impressed with how people can balance numerous rocks together all at once and that moment of release is very gratifying. At times the movement is just so subtle that it reminds me of a very peaceful meditation, devoid of frustration, just dancing with possibility.
@TravisRuskus
@TravisRuskus 8 лет назад
Totally - the difficulty does not lie in the hand, but rather in the mind. Each balance is an exploration where your idea meets reality :)

I got into mindfulness meditation because of depressions and panic attacks. From there I got interested in anything that focuses my mind. I started practicing yoga, because it combines physical exercise with focusing the mind. Now I just had to find something that combines my creativity with focusing my mind. I saw an article about rock balancing and new straight away, this is for me. Doing further research I stumbled over this video and I think it explains beautifully what I mean. I'll head down to the beach tomorrow and try my patience with some rock balancing. Thx for the inspiration.

Travis Ruskus - Insight is probably said too much. I will use stone balancing the same way I use mindfulness meditation. To stay focused in the present. I don't expect any insights, I don't really expect anything. I watch the stones, notice how they balance and interact with each other and just see what happens. That already keeps your mind occupied and focused on the present moment. It didn't take me long to do that one. Maybe 15-20 minutes, but to say it was my first one ever, I'm quite happy with it. Thank you ever so much for your tutorial. ;-)

Hello there Travis. I watched Gravity Glue about one year ago and added it to my favourite videos (i got three or four of them) so i could get some inspiration for things other than stone balancing. I watched your video in july, just before i went for my 4-day vacations. Man when i got by the beach (in Greece you can find one almost everywhere) the first time, it simply started flowing out of me. I balanced my first "pillar" in less than 5 minutes, and started flooding the place with balance, it was an amazing feeling and an eye candy. People even asked me if i studied in a special arts school lol(fount that really funny!). In short, thanks for the little details and the reminder to try it the next time i had the chance, it really worked out well! Keep on and be well.

+Wye Explorer happy to help! It really is a great meditative practice. Something I didn't cover in this video is that when you're in the wild balancing rocks it's so important to leave the rocks where you found them after you are done. I know it's really tempting to leave the rocks balanced and walk away for others to "find" but it can be a danger for others who think the rocks are glued... as well as park rangers who don't enjoy us "eroding the earth." Just some food for thought. Keep on balancing and enjoying the moment!

Thank you very much for teachinh me this. I actually felt and balanced couple of stones. Can you please tell me is there any career in this thing, because I kinda actually loved doing it.

@@vedantrane4067 I have a tip that works really well to building momentum: lower your standards and find the creative edge. For me I'm a dreamer and a lot of times my moonshot ideas don't quite match the physical constrains of reality. When I lower my standards just a little bit I can find where that creative edge between idea and reality meet. Every time I go out and balance I try to find that creative edge and push it farther than the previous balance session. Hope this helps!

Hey Travis, you have inspired me to learn how to balance rocks and I can’t quite get down the tripod system, how do you know and feel when you get 2 or 3 points? Do you move the rock in a triangular pattern to try to find all three points?
@TravisRuskus
@TravisRuskus 5 лет назад
Keep going! You’re looking for small points of contact - when you get closer the rock will “fight” you less and less until finally the rock will “click” into place in a state of suspension. You’ll get it, just wish I could see the look on your face when you finally do 😊

I cant beleive how many haters there are.....? Very cool video man. I just got into balancing rocks...i love it. I find peace when i do it. After I balance a pile or two I will sit by it at rivers edge and i feel very in sync with the world and its own vibration.
@TravisRuskus
@TravisRuskus 6 лет назад
You have unlocked the key. Now use the breath and try to find that collective vibration in moments when you don't have rocks to balance. This is a fun exercise to do when I'm waiting in line at the grocery store, driving, etc...

@TravisRuskus

Think less and feel more. Try not to think about breathing and just take a breath. We spend 99.9% of our day thinking and it's the spaces between thoughts where we can feel our soul, not the ego.

Hey Travis! I just watched your video, picked my favourite rocks in the house and tried! It has been a really meditative and mindful moment in my cacophonous day. And for that, I must thank you! I also tagged you on IG :) The only italian post in your hashtag, I think...
@TravisRuskus
@TravisRuskus 5 лет назад
Awesome Amina! If you have some indoor/outdoor space available, try to make your own little rock balance garden for daily use. No matter how much clarity I get from these balances, stress will always creep in each day so it's about finding mindful practices like this that can help us transform from stress to clarity. Check out my book to dive deeper, Italian translation coming soon :) www.travisruskus.com/book

I enjoy growing trees for Bonsai creations, which got me into suiseki/spirit stone appreciation, which got me into geology and all the unique rock formations of the world. I also play around with sculpting and recreating these natural artworks. I have heard and appreciate rock balancing, have tried, a little. But you have re-motivated me to practice more. thanks questions: Does the shape matter? rounded vs. craggy smooth vs. fissured the tripod: does the bottom have the 2 points and top have the 3rd? or vice versa. thanks for sharing and spreading positive vibes! Be well, Be real, and Be you!
@TravisRuskus
@TravisRuskus 5 лет назад
It's funny how one thing leads to the next. Keep balancing! Just make sure to knock down your balances before leaving (if you are in the wild). Answers: shape only matters to you. I find a combination of rough and smooth stones lock together easier. Start with a rough rock, then a smooth rock, then a rough rock, then a smooth rock, etc.. You need 3 points at the bottom - just pretend that you are balancing on a tiny triangle. Peace to you! Your questions are always welcome if you have more in the future.
