Hey Travis! I suffer from panic disorder, and have been for about 4 years. I’ve been searching for ways to cope with the anxiety that I deal with on a day to day basis and stumbled across your channel. I tried balancing stones today for about a two and a half hour span and honestly it was the most calm I’ve felt in a really long time. Today I had a revelation. It taught me that I can do what seems to be impossible through patience and persistence. I can’t tell you how many times these stones fell, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t get frustrated. With all that being said, once I finally stepped back and looked at what I thought I couldn’t do, I was amazed by myself. I felt joy. I felt a calm wash over me. I can do what I set my mind to if I can just roll with the punches, take a step back and breathe, and most of all, remember that what I want won’t happen right away. I actually posted a video (of course trimmed down to about a minute and a half) of my process. You should check it out and give me some pointers for my next try! Anyways thanks for doing what you do man!

That's great to hear you were able to find some peace in this practice. I actually taught a workshop in San Francisco a few years ago and one of my students had a panic attack mid way through - we were on a hidden beach and the quick "escape route" in daily life didn't exist, so she had to slowly unfreeze herself, literally pick up a rock, and just balance her way through it. Everyone else was having a great time and it was interesting how such an enjoyable experience could be perceived completely differently although we were all right there in the same moment. Long story short, she ended up balancing this huge single rock (using the triangle method in this video) and it was like she burst through the shell of her previous limiting beliefs. Hearing your similar but unique story reaffirms the power of this art form as a true healing practice. Due to requests like yours for tips I'm actually releasing a book in the summer that shares all of my secrets. It's taken a ton of work and my only intention is to give you as much value as possible. It would mean the world to me if you preordered a copy or two: www.travisruskus.com/book Peace to you Captain Noodles!

Same here. I've recovered from panic disorder long ago by meditation, but a few days ago I tried balancing stones and felt that this process is even more calming than meditation and gives such a big opportunity to concentrate and quieten my mind! Happy you felt it too!

Travis, thank you for your inspiration. My ear was removed from cancer. I realized how out of balance I had become. Physically, Mentally, spiritually I was unstable. as I balanced hundreds of Cairns in stones and glass and meditate it brought great focus in my life. Sure appreciate the artist you are. epsilon Fiftysix its so important to knock down the balances after you are done - leaving rock balances up for extended periods of time is harmful to the environment. I have faced countless messages from national parks and “environmentalists” via social media. There’s layers to this 😁 The deeper you believe the more things you discover... but ultimately I hope this art form helps you remember to breathe and stay calm in chaotic situations! Peace to you 🙏🏻

Travis, I watched another of your videos last night where you were balancing just one big rock. I have a collection of smooth palm size and smaller rocks and using your instructions I was able to balance three rocks in less than 20 minutes. How cool is that. But then I learned more by watching this one today. You teach here that the triangle can be on the upper rock as well. I can't wait to try this. Thanks for sharing! God bless you and your family!
@TravisRuskus

That's awesome! Glad I could be some sort of catalyst. Try and mix up the balances with rough and smooth rocks. If you just do purely smooth rocks you will have more of a tough time. Rough rocks grip smooth rocks and smooth rocks grip rough rocks - hope that makes sense. Keep going! Looking forward to hearing you results :)

Ok I saw that video. That's good. I just stacked 4 rocks! But it doesn't address the severity of a 20 pound rock haging 8in. Off center of a 10lb rock then going up. By the way this skill of "finness" I use a lot when fine tuning large machinery! And for checking gaps with a feeler guage. We also us this skill when wire micing for centers of bearings in motor case or turbine case. It's not just mumbo jumbo. As many mechanics don't have this finness it opens many doors of opportunity for me! Many jobs out there require fine motor skills with strength! Balance and the ability to do the task while in a cramped and out of position stressful environment! The more physical skills you have the more specialty jobs are open to you!

Hell yeah! My first paycheck was from working with a CNC mill so I know where you're coming from. I guess it's also about it's not the size of the tool, but what you do with it. Could a rock balance of 1 be just as magnificent as one of 100? During those moments of stress, BREATHE During those moments of peace, BREATHE this too shall pass

Hey Sam! Thanks for watching. I find during my workshops that the first rock is the easy one for my students, and then once you add more then we have to find what point you will be happy with what you have made. Rock balancing is simply finding that point where you are happy with yourself. Some people are never satisfied, always wanting "just 1 more" rock on top which inevitably leads to a total collapse... I would say just spend more time working with the stones and you will definitely learn more about how to balance them. Honestly I would say that when things get stressful try not to beat yourself up to much. Give yourself love and understanding - you are doing your very best with the experience you currently have. The only difference between you and I is that I have spent more time failing... and the more you learn how to fail, the more you will learn how to overcome failure and push past into new heights. Hope this helps :)

Hi Travis, you seem like a very nice guy. I just want to let you know that whenever you stack rocks like this you should always return them to where you found them. Hey man, thanks! But I have a question, I one saw a guy in Sausalito about 20 years ago. A Mexican guy who was stacking rocks way off centers! Out on the outer edges he would set large rocks! I passed if off as doing magic. Because it was extremely off balance according to the laws of physics! Have you any other explanation? Have you ever seen that kind of rock stacking? And what thoughts do you have on ledge stacking off center?

But i do have a question, because, just stacking up isnt that complicated, what about stacking rocks in weird shapes? like, long rocks just on their edges and then using another rock on top to hold it down... how do i get to that, because sure i can just practice, but i would like to understand it too

it's not center of gravity it's center of mass

Doesn’t the mass have a center of gravity?
@Thrill98
@Thrill98 4 года назад
@@TravisRuskus The center of gravity is where all of the weight of an object appears to be concentrated, meanwhile the center of mass can be outside of an object ( exm. the center of mass in the ring)

@@Thrill98 Thanks for the info! I can definitely see what you're saying with the ring (and gives me lots of great ideas) but when dealing with rock balancing it has a direct connection to gravity (instead of a ring floating in space) and often the center of gravity is not the center of mass in the rock, as some areas of rocks are more dense. If I'm following you, then when dealing with rock balancing it's both center of gravity and center of mass? What happens when the balance has more tension from counter-balancing 5+ rocks at a time? Is this center of gravity or center of mass? Or both?

Too bad if you have shaky hands :q

I recommend using heavier rocks 🙌🏼 I’ve seen those work well with shaky hands

Play with your toys in your own back yard. Rocks are habitat for animals. Piles of rocks in wilderness areas are visual pollution.

Oh so if I “buy” the land then I’m free to do whatever I want? This practice respects leave no trace policy and is about connection to Earth, not disruption of habitat

Don't do rock balancing in wildness and natural areas. It's bad for wildlife and micro-ecology. Particularly for fluana and fauna that is SAXICOLOUS. Removing rocks inhibits plants that need rocks for growth support. For animals, it can disrupt their nest, shelter, scent trails. Removing rocks from trails in national parks etc, can be dangerous. Often the rocks position on walking trails are positioned by rangers to keep the walking trail from erroding, keep people on the trail and not straying off. Finally, there are ancient sites when past civilizations used the practice to distinguish burial sites and other significant meaning. This is encouraging modern rock balancers to desecrate these archeological sites by re-arranging the rocks.

I agree and your thoughts are very well said, except I don't agree 100% with the last part. This video is showing the world the transformative meditative power this practice provides. Ultimately rock balancing brings far more awareness to how we treat the Earth and ourselves and the balance that must exist. The whole idea of a "national park" is somewhat ridiculous, because the whole earth should be treated like one big sacred park. Peace to you! Thanks for sharing your concern.
