Remember sprint hard the first lap. This really isn't a pace thing. This is a mentality thing. Go hard all out

Noor is correct but I do recommend holding back just a little energy for the second lap. Good luck!

1. Get to the break point first 2. Don't hug the inside of the land on the truns 3. Reduce stride length on the curves 4. Reduce speed slightly into the curve to save energy 5. Build speed off the curves into the straights

Jaret, your track videos are killing it. Your experience at Penn state sets you apart from the majority of the yt fitness community. Would love to see even more from your track and field experience, training, meets etc. You've got some quality info on "real fitness". Keep it coming!!

Thanks for the tips Uncle Jaret! You should make a video on how to run the indoor 200 too! I definitely need help with that because I got a pretty slow time today. Overall I'm just not having a great season, and in fact some of my friends who are still in high school running track are running much faster 200s than I am. My outdoor PR is 24.23 (indoor PR is 25.62) so my goal for outdoor this year is about 23.2. Unfortunately, like I said, I ran a 26.33 today so I'm pretty discouraged and I feel like me hitting that 23.2 this year seems unlikely. Don't want to give up though.
@JaretCampisi

You're welcome buddy! And don't compare yourself to others. Its all about doing the best YOU can do. Worrying about their times isn't going to help you. And its great to have times as a goal but you can't race against time, you race against the other people in your heats etc. So enjoy the training process, enjoy being healthy and keep working towards bettering YOURSELF. Thats what its all about :)

Regarding bank tracks for the 400. I'd say using the outermost lane (6?) gives a great start that could put you in the lead at the 150 (turn in). Yes, you must run uphill at the 100 but that faster than usual start supplies enough momentum to get to the 200 first. (Every runner ability being equal.) Worked for me.

I had my very first indoor track season, and I ran my very worst times, I'm not even going to conference. I had a horrible 300m, 200m relay, and a not so good 55m. I'm just hoping I'll be better in outdoor track. I've also had several problems with my back, hip, and ankle. I guess that affected my performance. Anyways, my season is over, and I just want to say thank you for the fitness advice and the sprinting tips you have provided me with.

Sorry to hear that buddy. Indoor isn't everyone's best...I struggled with indoor track at first as well. It takes a tole on your body and it takes some getting used to as well. Take a few weeks to let your body recover and then start to ease back into training and get ready for the outdoor season.

@JaretCampisi

haha the biggest difference are the turns. You can carry a little more speed into them as the bank helps lessen the forces that are trying to pull you off the curve. Other then that its pretty much an identical race strategy.

Jaret! Great video man, quick question that you could answer for me and others. what weight should i race at? I am 5'7 and around 164 pounds. During Track, I usually try to compete around 150-155. Also, when dropping weight, how do I keep my strength?
@JaretCampisi
@JaretCampisi 7 лет назад
There is no perfect weight it really varies from person to person. In general you want to be as light and as strong as possible. This is achieved by eating a proper diet and combining strength training with a solid track program. I've got diet videos on my channel if you need help.

that's just a matter of getting in better shape and running a correct race plan. I've got a track and field playlist on my channel. Hi Jaret, thank you for your valuable advise. My sons recently ran their first indoor 400m. Is there a way we can estimate (convert) their 400m indoor time to what it may be in an outdoor track? One of them, now 17 yrs of age, ran 55sec (my hand time: 25sec the first 200m and 30sec the 2nd lap). Any way to estimate what it should look like in an outdoor track?

Hey Jaret, im a 100-200m sprinter, would like to know if theres a noticable difference between spikes with 6 studs compared to 8. Currently my spikes have 6 studs, were I to upgrade, do you (or anyone willing to answer) think that it will make a difference? Thanks
@ssiriwardena9
@ssiriwardena9 7 лет назад
AxPlays I used to have spikes with 6 and have had new ones with 8 for about a year now and I found that they made running bends in the sprints much easier. You get much more grip and traction, helped me run off the curves into the straights faster
@JaretCampisi
@JaretCampisi 7 лет назад
I think it really just depends on personal preference, running style etc. Sometimes they can provide a little more grip as Sophie mentioned above and sometimes its not enough to notice. If you have the extra money I'd snag a pair and try them out to see what you think.

Thanks coach (Uncle 😁). Quick question for you. I'm trying out for my college track team this coming Friday, and I'm thinking that Thurs (maybe even Weds) I should take it easy so I have 'fresh legs' for the time trials/tryouts? Is that what you would do? If I continue training hard through Weds and then take it easy Thurs, do you think that would give me my best chance to be as fresh as possible on Friday?
@JaretCampisi

Yes I would back off starting on Wednesday to be honest. You can still do workouts on wednesday and thursday but just back off on the intensity and start to practice your race plans mentally etc.

I have a question about how much I'm suppose to give in the 400m. I am originally a short distance sprinter but my coach sees me as a 400 runner so I'm doing the 4x400 this weekend and I want to have the best split time so I can go back to my high school coaches that never worked with me and tell them how good I am. The first time I ran it I did it in 1:08 and 1:09 range. I gave about 85% on the first 200 and then when I hit the 300 mark I died. It was embarrassing.
@JaretCampisi

I'm a 1500m to 5k runner, but I'm still gonna do the 4x400m for my school cause our sprinters are shit. should I approach it in a similar way as the short distance guys?
@JaretCampisi
@JaretCampisi 7 лет назад
For the most part yes. Distance runners usually have a lot more strength but a little less speed so usually you guys can run much closer to 100% effort the entire 400. So use that to your advantage and take it out hard and you should have better strength at the end to hold on :)
