One thing he missed out on mentioning was strength training. For years I didn't do any strength training (although I was doing hill repeats every week), thinking just running alone would be good enough. Sure, I did run some decent times, but then I introduced strength training into my weekly routine and my god, did it make a difference. At the same stage in my training season the year before, I was running 4-5 minutes quicker over 14km. If I knew strength training would have made such a difference, I would have started doing it much earlier.

Nate: you probably won’t see this comment this late after you dropped this vid, but i wanted to give you a gigantic shout out for helping me hit my sub 1:20:00 goal for the half marathon; just did it this morning clocking a 1:19:44. I’ve used your long run advice mixing in 5k pace, 10k pace, and 1 mile pace sandwiched between easy pace inside a 15 mile run. Tough workouts, but they reaped huge benefits for me and they are a bulletproof confidence builder going into a race. I feel like I have heard and “tried it all”, but I had never done this…..and boy it paid off. Thanks so much! 9 weeks from now I’m going to hit my sub 3 hour marathon goal, and you’ll be my ghost race support all the way!

I use double day threshold workouts like Ingebrigtsen brothers use. Let's you run more volume at a hair faster than half pace. 6x5:00 in AM, 8-10x1k in afternoon, short rests. Helped me run masters pr of 1:14:15.

@@cakej1 As are your performances. Very well done!!! Keep hustling. You obviously have a very efficient anaerobic system and I know that hasn't come about overnight but through hard work and diligence. sub 51 is hauling!

Thank you for all your tips I’m just after my long run and feels like I’ll die in a moment I did 2:01:36 I’m crossing this magic two hours barrier always on my long runs my average pace was 5:10 per kilometre and total of 23.55 kilometres relatively flat with one long and high bridge that is killing me everyone 😂 and I need to cross it twice 😅 I hope I’ll recover over night so that I can bring my kids to school in the morning 😂 for now I don’t feel like I’ll get up from the bed 😂 have a good night thank you 🙏

Hi not sure if you will see this comment but I love the advice in this video. I wanted to ask If 7 weeks is enough time to implement these tips for a faster half? I ran 1hr30.26 in Feb and I have been slowly building back up in the last 4 weeks after an injury to go for a sub 1.30 time. Thank you
@rundreamachieve
@rundreamachieve Месяц назад
7 weeks is a solid amount of time to prepare, longer is always better but just get immersed in your prep and focus on training at and FAR below 1:30 half pace in training. You have a legitimate shot at running 1.29.59.
@antht1306

Loving your videos. I have been running just under 20mins for the 5k at parkrun. Some friends of mine are 1 or 2 mins slower than me yet when we did the great north run half marathon last week I ran 1:49 and they were 5-8mins quicker than me. My theory is I haven't been training enough at half marathon pace e.g. Tempo pace? Does that sound right?
@antht1306
@antht1306 10 месяцев назад
Oh and also I did not take on any cards, only water. Could that be an issue?
@rundreamachieve
@rundreamachieve 10 месяцев назад
sometimes it is just some athletes are stronger at the shorter distances and others at the longer distances. In your case, I think you have great leg speed and immense endurance. I certainly think in due time you will be well under 1:30 and that 1:49 you dropped and having run a sub 20 clearly shows huge potential to achieve it. Yes, lack of calories in the race (2-3 gels) can make a BIG difference. Make some small changes in your training and you will own them over the longer distances. Keep up the great work
@riley_bohr
@riley_bohr 10 месяцев назад
Generally love your advice but I just want to clarify for anyone watching aspiring to break 1:30: doing 5-6 mile reps at 5:45-5:50 will put you in way way faster shape than sub-1:30 shape
@rundreamachieve
@rundreamachieve 10 месяцев назад
Donald is 100% correct. Per the VDOT02 calculator, threshold paces is 6:44 mile pace, interval is 6:12 mile pace and when VERY anaerobically fit, you should be doing repetitions at 5:48 mile pace but that is quite intense as a 5:44 mile is equivalent to a 1:29:59 half-marathon..a general pace you should be aiming at is around 6:10-6:25 mile reps, 5:45-5:50 IS far too aggressive for someone aiming for sub 1:30. Appreciate the feedback Donald.
@riley_bohr
@riley_bohr 10 месяцев назад
@@rundreamachieve No problem, at my peak I did 6 mile reps with 1 minute rest at 5:48 avg, and ran 1:24 in terrible conditions (icy/slippery, windy). Was probably in sub 1:20 shape but the race I planned to do it was cancelled from COVID at the beginning of the pandemic lol

Hello there Nathan, I did a marathon earlier this year and got 3:29. It was my first one, I have a goal of sub 90 mins for a half in 5 weeks. I did a workout this week of 15 rounds 1 km repeats with 15 seconds rest and averaged 6:48 per mile on them. been running around 35-45 miles a week and 15 mile long runs. How close do you think I am currently to hitting that goal? I am 31 and have been running for a little over 1 year consistently
