Thanks for the video. I am trying to install the Boss Elite Rear-View License Plate Mount Camera - ELPC40B in my 2001 Corolla. I would like to ask two questions. Is the reverse or backup light supposed to be part of the trunk lid that is raised when you open the trunk? For the Boss camera, should the red wire from both the extension cable and the power cable (which has a tiny red wire and black wire) be attached to the rear light positive wire? Thanks in advance!
There is no cut and dry answer on what the reverse or backups lights should or are supposed to be built into. In this example, they were not part of the trunk lid Red wires on backup cameras are typically positive but it is best to check the wiring information that is often found in the owner's manual. If the camera will be used as only a backup aid and only needs to be on when the vehicle is in reverse, the reverse light power wires are often used to get power to the camera. The convenience wire included on the video cable only needs to be used when the camera needs to be used at times when the vehicle is not in reverse gear; this wire helps get the camera's power from another sources. Sources that are always on when the vehicle is running.
