I run my 11F-150 on it. Bad mileage but so fun! Warning, it does cause you to have a led foot.

I made my 2022 Prius into a flex fuel vehicle, but there was/is no real benefits. Just something I wanted to do for years. I do put E85 into my 3.6l v6 engine my flex fuel minivan has for maximum power. (My priuss are 120 hp combined, ford is 170 hp, but my minivan is 260)

Nice presentation! Quick question: do vehicles that burn “flex fuel” have “hardened” valves? I’ve heard the valves are different in flex fuel engines and running such fuel will burn out non-flex fuel valves. Has anyone heard this?
@e-dod
@e-dod Год назад
Thanks! I never heard of any issues with non hardened valves. But ethanol is more corrosive then gasoline. This corrosive nature mainly causes issues with aluminum gas tanks/fuel lines, but most people report no issues. In theory ethanol should be better for your valves and everything else in the combustion chamber since it burns cooler then gas. I am just presenting what I researched though, I am no expert 😁. If I do some more research and find anything I'll update here though.

I put a flex fuel kit on my stock 2002 Mustang GT. It ran fine for several days on 44% ethanol content but the day that I refilled the tank I got 61% ethanol content (a mix between 44% and 85% which would make it around 61%) and the car died. This is less than a week after I put in the kit. Turns out that it killed my fuel pump (or was it coincidence?) and I have to replace it. The manufacturer and another youtuber said that neither the fuel pump nor the fuel injectors need to be upgraded from stock. Anyway, I ordered a fuel pump certified for E85 only to find out that the fuel pump housing for the bad pump was of poor design where you have to remove a small hose to get access to the fuel pump. Which caused another problem because I ended up destroying the small hose and can't find a replacement that is SAE 30R10 anywhere. The corrugated hose fits onto an 1/8 inch OD port on each end of the assembly. So, I have to order a complete assembly with a fuel pump pre-installed because you can't get just the housing from any manufacturer. You might not be able to specify an E85 compatible fuel pump either. I'm not a happy junior mechanic right now.

I'm not a car person at all, but I'm intrested in ethanol as (in some states/countries) you can make your own. Because I have little knowlage of more advanced modern engines, i still have a lot of research, but good video

Thanks! Yes, it is super interesting that you can actually make your own fuel and run a combustion engine on it. Especially when you look at how expensive gas is.

Find a tuner or check out HP Academy to learn how to do it yourself.

Ok so can I run only e85 with absolutely no mix? I have my car tuned to e85 also
@e-dod
@e-dod Год назад
Definitely can. The only downside is if you use pump e85 since it can vary and is usually not 85% ethanol. But ethanol itself is a forgiving fuel so usually some variance will not cause any damage to your engine even if its not ideal for performance or gas mileage.

No much info out there on stuff like this… do you think you may do a video on vehicles that run carbs or have a resource I can look at?
@e-dod
@e-dod 11 месяцев назад
You would just need to make sure your fuel system can support 30% more fuel and jet the carb to run the 9:1 ratio that E85 needs, but the corrosive natures of E85 might be troublesome with a carburetor.
@matthewmoore661
@matthewmoore661 Год назад
Well done. Only question(s) not answered: conversion cost and do the fuel system materials type have to be changed?
@e-dod
@e-dod Год назад
Great question, I should have mentioned this. The reason I did not include that is because it varies by car. For example, I have a Lancer EVO and it has been running E85 for years on stock fuel lines. Just has upgraded pump & injectors to support the additional fuel needed. But, I have heard others saying they needed to upgrade to PTFE AN lines because the E85 corroded their stock lines. So if you can find some info for your specific car that would be best. Otherwise, try it out with stock lines if you are on a budget and just keep an eye on things. Most cars have metal lines under the chassis so you would mainly want to keep an eye on the engine bay since leaky fuel from corroded lines + hot engine bay not good. Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!

Hey Thanks For The Video, What Should My A/F Ration Be On Idle On E85? I think 8.9 Is Too Rich On My Kswapped Civic
@e-dod
@e-dod Год назад
Hey, thanks for watching! 8.9 definitely sounds to rich at idle assuming you have 85% ethanol or lower. Should be closer to 9.8 at idle if you have stock/mild cams.

@@e-dod Thanks For Getting Back To Me I Have A Stock K20z1 With Full Bolt On I'm Usually At 10.20-11.00 A/F Cold Start Is 9.8
@e-dod
@e-dod Год назад
@@indiobaez3314 np, cold start will need to be richer. it should lean out gradually as car warms up. This is normal for a properly tuned engine. Also, if you are running a flex fuel sensor and your ECU is properly tuned for flex fuel then your AFR's will vary based on the ethanol percentage. So for me to advise a target AFR you would need to let me know what percentage your E85 is as well.

Noob question, I am thinking about converting my Boosted D16z6 Honda to E85. Would I have to get the engine retuned?
@e-dod
@e-dod 11 месяцев назад
Yes, you would need a re-tune so that the engine is given more fuel. Also, if you have a good tuner that knows how to tune for e85 he can lean out the AFR's, increase boost and increase timing with e85 so you make more power.
@Shreddylife

As long as you upgrade the fuel system. You would also need to find a way to tune the truck to provide more fuel.

I'm driving a f250 that use e85 and in reality it's way slower then using regular gas
@e-dod
@e-dod Год назад
Is this an OEM flex fuel vehicle? Maybe Ford intentionally made the tune conservative to result in better gas mileage since e85 requires much more fuel burned then gas? e85 itself only makes the car faster if the tune takes advantage of the higher octane and cooling capabilities e85 provides.
