Great tips......as we've come to expect 👏👏. I've run 20kms on the tready in a session & find it to be great brain training for observing ones thinking as we fatigue. I've also used it to progressively push myself to a 19 minute 5km @ age 64. I do much of what you advise Nate but will do more. Thanks heaps 👍

What I found that helps with staying on the treadmill physically is a basic breathing technique. I make sure to take a deep breath at the start, and then shallow-quick breaths in between. After I start to get a little tired, I take a deep breath again. I can't explain it perfectly but usually when you take a deep breath, you will find that sometimes- you can inhale completely- but sometimes you won't be able to. At times you fully inhale it boosts your indurance, and as you practice, it will allow you to stay at longer durations. I'm not sure if it works for everyone, but I find it really helps for longer runs.

Inhale 4 Sec' Hold breath 4 Sec' Exhale 4 sec and Hold breath 4 Sec Repeat do this while you stretch or while you run if you can manage usually takes a week or 2 doing it while your heart rates at its normal before youll be able to breath like this while running also inhale into your stomach

@@jarojaric2969 oh yeah...before i learned it i was always out of breath after maybe a quarter mile and then the rest of say the mile or 2 was just horrendous for my lungs its a technique called box breathing bunch of other names aswell but i hear navy seals surgeons even astronauts are taught to use it in training very good for concentration and calming your breath heart and mind all that good stuff if you really want a easy run where it feels like easy breezy then i suggest box breathing plus a song called Marconi Union Weightless legit feel like im dream running when i do this so aware yet feel like im running on cloud 9 could run 5 miles without breaking a sweat its truly weird what your body can do when you focus not on the running and the pain but the breathing and the super relaxing sleepy music xD

I am new to workout and gyms, when I go on the treadmill, I get bored to death, I get so bored that 15 minutes feel like 15 hours. I wonder if this is normal, or that I just have not learned to be patient. Also I get very irritated. I think I don't like not occupying my mind with something.

One of the greatest benefits to the treadmill is that it has low impact. Consequently it gives your legs time for recovery from the road.

Tell you what Nate, I dropped in here because I'm 55, have lost 83 lbs jogging on the treadmill with outdoor walking mixed in and considering I'm still 55lbs overweight and insist on reaching my target weight of 199lbs, I'd like to suggest you might do a video that includes us big folks. I put books on tape on the laptop and listen, I have 300+ songs on my playlist, I run in the electric WRRRRRRRRR of my #2 adjustable-fans for deeper thoughts and meditative running. Some folks like the interactive laptop video of running outside for a distraction. I jog between 3mph- 4mph for up to 2 hrs on my long runs. . the speeds you mention are far out of reach as yet. I inspire myself with videos from you and other real runners and hope to slim down to the ''Clydesdale" class of distance runner plodding along on the treadmill before I do any road training in order to save my knees and lower back. Please know that you inspire me and I hope to be out there on the road someday as well. Thanks.

I'm a 77 year-old runner who runs outdoors 3 days a well and 4 on the treadmill at the gym. My gym run is a "butter-burner" - one minute run, one minute walk. I progressively raise the pace until I'm at about 65% at the end of my run minute. My question is: am I doing myself any good, in the spirit of 80/20 running, with this workout since I'm not holding 60% for an extended time? Outdoors, my usual runs are between 60%-75%.

I do many different types of workouts per week and I do jogging on TM 2 or 3 times a week. I am still a bit overweight. So I am trying to add the running because I know I burn more calories and it is fun to me to run. I wonder if u have any ideas how to get my knees and feet to not get sore since I do lots of other exercise through the week. I lift weights, HIIT, and aerobics, step, and bootcamp. I find the running is not as hard on my knees and feet as the other things. Can’t I do the jog and still lose weight if I do the steady state for 30 minutes? Because I do go a bit faster here and there. But for now I can only do 4.0 up to 6.0 for now but wondered if that is okay for now?
@TheRunExperience
@TheRunExperience 5 лет назад
Hey there! Sounds like you're doing a great job with getting in a mix of cardio and strength and staying very active. With all of that hard work, though, you need to prioritize mobility and foam rolling, as well! Using a lacrosse ball to roll out your feet, foam rolling your quads, etc. will help with the soreness and pains. Here's a video to give you all the basics! --> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4sRaEp6xND8.html And yes, adding some running in (doesn't have to be long or fast) can definitely help with a weight loss goal!
@TheReneepruitt
@TheReneepruitt 5 лет назад
The Run Experience thank you. I actually am 49 and fell in love with jogging! I want to do more but I feel I am still a bit heavy for my frame so I can’t do to many days. But I am working on it! Thanks for answering and I will definitely do some of that. I really want to incorporate the mobility work as well. I had a really bad pain in my upper leg and hip socket. And did a dvd from someone named Tracy Long because the mobility on there I was told about. When I did that it really took the pain away! I was shocked! So I will take a look at this!
