The best way to attack just about any defensive zone is to OVERLOAD it offensively. By OVERLOADING the ZONE you force the defense to make a choice, which simplifies your offensive decisions immensely

They just played horrible defense! With the 3-2 #4 was out of position, which allowed that skip pass. The top defender should have been covering the free throw line. With the 2-3 #5 has to drop and cover free throw line. JUST BAD DEFENSE! #RESPECT

In a zone, is the defenders job to guard a area? If the answer is "yes". Well, what if you put two offensive players, spaced out, in that area? You can't say it's bad defense when your forcing the defender make a decision.

Overload is so easy to stop. Slide the whole zone over with the overload

@@amuniversity8391 yes. Just slide the whole zone over with the overload. Their trying to have 4 on 3. So slide the zone over and they’ll have to get out of the overload because it’ll be 10 players on one side of the court. Everybody would be covered.

@@theonlyjayp3781 when shifting a entire zone over is your defensive principles still the same? It can’t be. Which means offense still wins. By shifting the entire defense over, you essentially in a man to man.

It doesn’t matter how you run overload is the moral of the story. You can run it various ways. The objective to beating any zone should always be to put more offensive players in a spot where there is less defensive players. It’s a numbers game.

The overload is very effective if you’ve got some shooters. Remember the goal of a 2-3 is to make the other team beat you from the outside. However if you coach your 2-3 correctly where to play on the weak side, how to jump to the ball, and cut off passing and cutting lanes, it can also be effective.
