This video has completely changed my form. I just came back from a run and my legs would usually be screaming for help, but just by listening what she had to say and implementing it into my run just made it so effortless. Hands down one of the most enjoyable runs I've had and I can say with 100% certainty that what she says is worthwhile.

You don't really fix form...you fix mechanics which results in a more efficient form for you. When people get stuck on the word "form" they can start falling into bad traps like "I need to have a form like runner X". When you focus on the mechanics...YOUR CORRECT FORM will naturally present itself.

She sounds like a great coach with a lot of valuable information! I come from a family of Olympians and there are a few short bullet-pointers to keep in mind: 1. Run loose. Most of us tend to tighten our upper-body (chest) as we run which you do not want to do! Stretch, and "shake" around to help loosen yourself up both mentally and physically. 2. Kick when you run. Watch Olympians do this. They will have a long stride, bending their legs at the knee almost "punching" their butt with their heels. 3. Breathe. Exercise your lungs, let your bottom jaw hang loose, and allow yourself to take in oxygen. Sounds funny but a lot of folks have a tendency to clench their jaw and restrict otherwise normal or healthy breathing
@cannibalmanimal2336
@cannibalmanimal2336 2 года назад
Heel-raise is a biproduct of more falling, which equals more speed since more gravity’s used. Cadence will also increase to keep up w the fall angle so we don’t faceplant. If you pull more than required it’s simply wasted effort
@thepsychologist8159
@thepsychologist8159 2 года назад
Yes, I agree. She doesn't seem to be adding anything to what a real running coach would tell a person. But on a similar note, you make some very good points and highlight basics which many people don't practice or soon forget. 1. I remember in my earlier days I would try so hard to run faster. And when I say 'try', I mean I'd tense up and try to physically make myself run faster. Not only did I not run faster, I was bloody exhausted at the end of my run (i.e. 7km). It was only when I did the exact opposite, completely relaxed every ounce of my body, every muscle, did I then start seeing massive improvements. Even now, I remind myself during a run to relax and shake out my hands, monitor if my shoulders are getting tight, etc. Now, it's literally like I'm in a state of 'zen' when I'm running. 2. A few years ago I went from focusing on my cadence (not such a bad thing) to focusing on a longer stride length. Personally, I started with my arm swing. Before I had a lower arm swing, whereas now I adopted a higher arm swing (like the elite endurance runners). This automatically translated to a greater forward lean and higher back kick and, faster times. Even now when I feel like I'm tired or not running fast, I end up running way faster than my previous times simply by virtue of a longer stride length. 3. Yes, "let your bottom jaw hang loose". Such good advice. So many times I hear about 'nose breathing' or people running with a tight jaw. It's all associated with relaxing. Open your mouth, relax the jaw, suck in the oxygen (train yourself to belly breathe and with a correct rhythm).

From my experience Ive been an athlete playing football my entire life up to the professional ranks and about 2 years ago I picked up running and really enjoy it. I’ve tried multiple techniques to run even consulting mg buddies who are avid runners and they told me to find a technique that’s comfortable on my body. But more importantly work on my breathing. After finally learning how to properly breathe through belly and not my chest I’ve been able to run a marathon at 265 pounds.

Excellent coach! Those are the best techniques for long distance running. Elasticity of ankles and calves, bouncing on your feet, free falling while running, increase cadence without over striking? The irony is that you naturally do all of these when you run in minimalist shoes or go barefoot. You will need a coach like her if you're going to run in thick cushioned shoes with elevated heels.
