The opening shot of the Land Rover going down that steep incline !!! Kudos to LR! Fantastic photography. Professional editing. Makes me want to borrow Landy for an eight month trek across the continent! Simply awesome!

Unfortunately land rovers don't rule...they are notorious for their high maintenance almost as bad as a Hollywood Jewish wife!. The Land Cruiser has taken over primarily because they are so reliable.....As they say in Aussie...If you want to travel to the outback....drive a land rover,if you want to come back drive a Land Cruiser. Land Rover never put the required investment into the Defender (primarily to do with the endemic corruption within Britain which has seen the British car manufacturing industry run down to virtual extinction)

Hey Ted thanks for commenting. You may be right, but they're sure a heck of a lot of fun! Who a hobby when you've got a Landy ;) We wouldn't trade ours. She's a real work horse and gets us to some real hard to get places. Plus, we get to meet a lot of nice mechanics along the way!

Land Rover was not designed with the outback in mind. Land Cruiser parts last longer but also cost about 10x more. On the other side the Land Rover is better off road and does not rust as bad as other brands thanks to rainy Britain. 😉

I own Two Have a Disco II & 85 Wolf Ex-mod FFR w/ 2.5NA Diesel planning upgrading to 300 TDI later on. in the US have strict emissions and some states are more forgiven than California where I live

Hello Margrit and Russ, very very nice adventures, congratulations !!! So, why did you choice LR and not a van like for exemple Iveco Daily 4x4 with more space to live ? Tks - Have fun and be happy !!! Regards from France !

Great question. For one thing the price. Because we kitted her ourselves we could outfit her exactly as we needed. The Landy can also take us places a van never could. We also enjoy the outdoor life with a roof top. And probably most importantly.... the old Land Rover is Africa and a grand icon for our NPO.

Hey glad you like. Russ designed it. Gerber 4x4 in Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa fabricated it. The fridge is a National Luna... and we love it. Sorry for delayed reply... been out of signal range.

Thanks... glad you like it. She's got about 270,000 kilometers under her belt. We just love her. Currently camped at Lake Kariba giving her a rest after a rough drive from Hwange to here (close to Mana Pools.) ;)

I've only been to Africa one time, Kenya, but seemed a bit dangerous for white people. Our Kenyon driver told me not to walk out at night. He said, "Remember, your skin is the color of money." Carjacking trying to steal cell phones, etc. So, y'all seem okay, eh?

Ahh! The stories! New York City and Chicago are dangerous. Every country has danger zones/times. It’s the unpredictability that gives Africa it’s intrigue 😋. Life in “safe” countries can get quite boring. So predictable we get lulled into a false complacency/comfort zone. I’ve in Africa... well, that’s living!
