Able to change, no problem - thanks for all your suggestions. Some additional comments: 1. I was able to do without disconnecting wires, as another reader suggested - mind you, I did not have a camera in my hand. 2. I took an 18” piece of tubing and vacuumed to bottom of compartment which houses the two filters before inserting the new filters. Again thanks. Bill, Hamilton Ontario

Why do you need to remove the under gloves compartment? Sorry, I don’t understand. It looks to me that the filter is under the console. Thx for your response

Actually if you’re careful you don’t really need to remove those wires from the under glovebox panel. Additionally if you’re an old guy like me you might want to do a few stretching exercises before you start as you’re really contorting yourself into some unusual positions ! While we think most mechanical things were designed by engineers I am convinced some things were purposely designed by chiropractors !

Just changed the filter on my 2021 Model 3 and followed it to a tee. Even used the same brand of AC Unit cleaner. Yes, it does smell nice and fresh . As pointed out, you really do not need to disconnect the wires from the light and speaker. It will drop far enough down for you to access the panel. Great video !

A Torx socket kit helps tons, with a small ratchet driver such as a 1/4". The T-20 Torx bit stays connected while you loosen or tighten if the bolt is in the old (difficult to reach) location. HUGE time saver and more importantly, less aggravation. This is the single worst part of the job, but the Torx bit on a ratchet made it much easier. Thanks for the video.

Came back a year later to do my annual filter change :) Second time doing on my own. Way less daunting and apprehensive about it this time around having done it once already. No AC coil clean this time though because the cans of cleaner is like $40 and as it was winter so mostly running on heat so AC coils are rarely used and should be mostly dry so should be less mold and bacteria on them. Thanks again for the tutorial :)

Thanks for this. I’ve got the older version like yours, but didn’t remove the wires (too much effort required for me to feel it wouldn’t break). Also put the cover back on loosely before running the AC with the cleaning stuff. And since the instructions for the cleaner said to ventilate the car, I ran the AC with the windows open. Thank you for the video. The Tesla engineers really wanted to make sure these filter replacements weren’t easy to replace. Holy hell if you are a big guy it’s very awkward to contort your body to a position where you can see all the clips and screws. I highly recommended a ratchet torx only because it’s really hard to find the torx head.

FYI in the filter hole put your fingers inside, the A/C is towards the seat so you know where to shoot the foam. I shot it across the drivers side so be careful def. Get the ones that come with the tube. Ohh well next time but even with the limited amount I got it still smells like new now. Also be careful putting the carpet panel back on you’ll def lose clips…. Or buy a set of clips to have
@alexandermartinez8780

You NEED to take ur time. Also before starting this process make sure ur AC is on LOW or level 1 so it doesn’t blow all the liquid you placed inside cabin air filter area. I like to reapply screw to make sure it doesn’t come all out because it’s messed with wiring before. Please take ur time but great video!

Common issue with a/c unit funky scent. I believe if you turn off the a/c a few minute and just let the fan blow for a few minutes (arrived your destination) It would keep the a/c coil drier.(less condensation)
@Tesla11ven

That's good to know too, I did not try that because I had known about this common funk smell and decided to hit it hard by replacing the filter.
@tktkwei
@tktkwei Год назад
I did the fan only before leaving the car after I cleaned my evaporator during the summer. I found out it actually make the smell comes back faster. There was one time that when I was blowing only the fan, after turning off A/C and suddenly the smell kicks right back in. I think the big temp swing by sucking the outside warm air mixing with cold evaporator makes the smell come back sooner? Once you make that smell come back, it will gradually become worse in the future start up.

Serious question, I've had Tesla do my Model 3 and Model Y filters (at cost) at local Tesla Owners events, and neither time did they remove the glove box items. They pulled the side panel, removed the screw panel and then the filters. Took them less than 5 minutes each time. How crucial is that step? Is it to have more clearance to remove the filters? I even asked the tech about this and he said they never take anything else apart, of course they do this a lot. Thanks for the video!

@Tesla11ven I purchased a different set that kinda look identical to yours. There instructions were to have the black carbon side facing the air front of the car air inlet side, and the white blueish filter side facing the rear and sets. Opposite of the instructions on yours. Any reason why they would advise different install options for practically the same exact filter? Wondering if it really doesn’t matter which direction they go in as both options would get the job done. Thanks!

It's not the humid environment, it's bad design on the air duct. The air duct for the AC has a drain hole, but the blower sucks air up the drain hole and thus the water gets sucked in as well when the blower is on step 6 or higher.

Btw if you are like me and had trouble putting the glovebox plate/cover back because you’re stupid, remember that the pins have to be pulled out of the washer things they’re each attached to in order for the pin/plug and washer to both go into the holes. Once the washer part is in the hole, _then_ you can push the pin into the washer that is now in the hole to lock it in place. The washer will expand when the pin is in it, so if the pin is already in, the washer is already expanded and thus will not be able to fit in the hole.

Why do we need to separate the speaker and Light? Isn’t the space enough just to swap the air filter?
@Tesla11ven
@Tesla11ven Год назад
It made it easier to get to the space for me, but you're right the two are not necessarily tied to the filters

Nice video. Before I proceed, did you experience restricted air flow after upgrading from OEM to HEPA cabin filters?
@Tesla11ven
@Tesla11ven Год назад
I did not. Airflow was just as smooth and as strong as before.

after replacing the filter and reconnecting the light and speaker, my light did not turn back on and I can't figure out why. I'm concerned that the speaker isn't working either after plugging everything back in

Obviously you clipped everything back in and the connection is solid?

@@Tesla11ven it was actually the bulb. I took another bulb elsewhere just to check and it worked. it was just weird because the bulb was working fine right before i disconnected and was originally changed the same time as all the others in the car. it must have shorted somehow in between the change. thank you for your response though.
@Tesla11ven

Oh good to hear. Yea maybe it shorted like you said.

Such an amazing car with a ridiculous amount of steps to replace a cabin air filter. My Chevy Tahoe takes me exactly 5 minutes if that.

There shouldn't be this issue to begin with either, you're right.

Interesting.. I have only seen people using coil cleaner directly into the area where the filters are placed. There are a number of videos that show this process..where they use a tube and spray directly down into the spot where the coils are...just sayin....
