If you have any questions about how to use multiple power supplies or how to plug your components in, then please post them here in the comments! I also recommend you watch my video on how to safely power your mining rigs here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MIW0i7SlIYI.html And also here's a video of me building a mining rig from start to finish: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TUtr9S4b2T4.html

Personally, I think the 3rd way you showed is the BEST way. The using the "Chip" method takes away from an available 6-pin connector you could be using to power up something else. Just my humble opinion. I'm sure someone else probably has mentioned that, but I'm not going to troll through almost 500 comments to find out.

The best video i have seen since I started mining one year ago. I got rid of my server PSU. It was very efficient, but way too loud and hot. I got ten rx5600xt gpus and got myself one RM650 and one RM750 for 100 Euros. Both are very quiet, the system is stable. Since the rx5600 runs on lower watts, I can use one cable to run two cards and two risers!

Very good information, you answered some basic questions that bothered me. I'm an electronic technician but don't know anything about mining. A couple of suggestions: If you make videos like this in the future, you keep referencing your first choice as a "chip"; however, that is a BOARD and not a chip. A chip implies an integrated circuit and the word chip comes from the actual silicon wafer ie, "chip" that is found on all IC's. So I would use the word circuit board and more correctly you should say relay board because that orange component on the board is a relay that once it is powered on or energized by the main power supply it closes the contacts in the relay that then signals the next power supply to power up. Also when you explain the need for keeping the power supplies separated at around the 13 and 14 minute mark, you mentioned that if one power supply fails and that certainly is a valid concern, but from an electronics perspective, there is always the possibility and I would say the likelihood that no two power supplies will generate the exact same voltage even though the label on the power supply says that it does. You may also notice a plus-minus percentage as well telling you that the voltage will likely not be exact. So the most important reason why we want to keep power supplies apart is so that they don't get into a situation where one voltage is higher than the other supplying the same graphics card. That is a real world and very frequently occurring design issue. Your stipulation to never mix power supplies is well-founded and I wholeheartedly support that. Thanks again! Great video, and of course I gave you a thumbs up.

Omigod Seb you have done it again! Thank you for this video. I am going through every single one of your videos and the posts in Discord Chat with Seb channel and am learning so much! This old school 1980s cobol programmer/desktop builder granny loves getting her hands back into PC components via mining. Day job is management, haven't been a programmer since the 90s. I miss being hands-on! I've been slowly putting my rig together and by trial and error/watching your videos/readings (not always in that order), I am getting things sorted out. I just realized the my 3070 that has 2 8pin connectors should NOT be using one power cable. Thank god I just bought a new psu yesterday so I could hook it up. Unfortunately all I have is the jumper for now, but I did just order your top 2 recommendations and will switch over to one of them when they arrive. I've been getting some weird issues causing my rig to crash that I think will settle down using 2 power supplies, plus its definitely got to be healthier and safer to power my 3070 the right way. Thanks for all you do, you are awesome!

@MilanKarakas

The original video name about better two smaller PSUs rather than big one. So, two PSUs half the power of big one is better because of more cooling 'power', or cooling area (two fans vs. single one). Regarding that connector that should be grounded - earlier days with colored wires, there is green wire that should be connected to the black wire (sensing wire connected to the GND). For anyone who have at least some experience in electronic can connect all that 'green wire' together including main PSU for the MB. Then as motherboard provide the information that all PSUs should run, they will run all at the same time. But your suggestion about special 'thing' is maybe more safe for anyone. Thanks.

I don’t use the atx24 splitter cables , they are not well made in my experience . The pins can move around and cause problems . The add2psu boards are a much better solution. They work totally fine being triggered by other secondary psus and don’ t need to be triggered by the primary . Fan hubs also don’t need to be powered only from the mobo unless you have them hooked up with PWM to the mobo , in that case yes only use the primary to power. Your comments on avoiding cross connecting gpus and their risers is absolutely correct . This can cause all sorts of problems don’t do it.
@godded
@godded 3 года назад
As someone who has used multiple power supplies in a few rigs, the main reason you'd want to avoid mixing power sources from different PSUs is the effect of minor voltage differences between the 12V rails (which in some cases are not minor), can have on your components. This can be especially dangerous if your grid occasionally experiences brown outs or voltage spikes/drops, as each individual PSU will be able to maintain it's target 12V voltage differently. If the 12V from the riser and the 12V from the PCIe strand diverge too far, this can have potentially catastrophic effects on both the GPU and PSU. I almost killed my Seasonic Prime unit during a brown out, when I accidentally powered the riser of a connected card via Molex from my other PSU, My Seasonic unit was acting as the secondary unit and was connected via the "add2PSU" chip. Luckily with their 10 year warranty the distributor was able to provide me a quick fix (I think a cap blew out), but it could have been a costly mistake. You also really want to make sure you spread your loads in a meaningful way when using multiple PSUs, to avoid loading one PSU up to 100% while the other one works at 60% load capacity. So e.g. 4 GPUs on one PSU & 3 GPUs + MB + fans on the primary (assuming all GPUs have the same power draw and both PSUs have the same Wattage capacity).
@jkelsall2017
@jkelsall2017 2 года назад
thank you for sharing and when using dual psu did u have to go into bios and edit something for 1psu main and then second psu?
@godded
@godded 2 года назад
@@jkelsall2017 not at all. The motherboard (or rather BIOS) does not care where the power comes from. As long as all required rails of connected components are loaded up with power e.g. switched on when the motherboard gets turned on, then all components should be detectable during boot and that's it.

Great video. I´m using dual PCU's for my rigs, going way overboard too. 2x corsair 850w on rig 1 and 2x EVGA 850w on rig 2. both draws about 1000w. they barelly gets warm, and using just a simple cable to short the start on the slave PCU. have them connected on 2 GPU's each(risers and gpu). Also have them connected on different fuses(the 2 corsairs on one fuse and the two EVGA on another). I´m mostly working away from home, and my offtime i usually spend in my cabin, so trying to think about safety(mostly of my neighbours).
