In these uncertain times, it's more important than ever to have a solid understanding of how to manage your finances, invest wisely and navigate economic downturns. But my primary concern is how to grow my reserve of $240k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains, sure I'm all in on the long term game, but with my savings are lying waste to inflation and my portfolio losing gains everyday, I need a remedy.

If you need advice, consider speaking with a financial advisor. Don't get me wrong, you can do it on your own, but financial advisors have a lot more knowledge and expertise in this area.

To my understanding this just proves how much we need an edge as investors because playing the market like everyone else just isn’t good enough. I've been quite unsure about investing in this current market and at the same time I feel it's the best time to get started on the market, what are your thoughts?

Since the crash, I've been in the red. I’m playing the long term game, so I'm not too worried but Jim Cramer mentioned there are still a lot of great opportunities, though stocks has been down a lot. I also heard news of a guy that made $250k from about $110k since the crash and I would really look to know how to go about this.

*I didn't become financially independent until I was in my late 40's, and I'm still in my 40's. In addition to having purchased my second home and earning money on a monthly basis through passive income, I've also achieved three out of five goals. I just hope this inspires someone to realize that it doesn't matter if you don't have any of these things yet, you can start today no matter your age. Change your future by investing! I had initially planned to retire at 62, work part-time, and save money, but the impact of high prices on various goods and services has significantly disrupted my retirement plan. I'm worried about whether those who experienced the 2008 financial crisis had it easier than I currently am. The volatility of the stock market is a concern as my income has decreased, and I fear that I won't be able to contribute as much as before, potentially jeopardizing my retirement savings.

An important thing to consider is that saving, and investing is NOT a zero sum game. If, at the end of 3 years you come up short, you did not fail. If you end up with 50k, or 60k you still have a nice start. I think many people get intimidated by the goal, and think they can’t do it, so why even try. Any savings is better than no savings

Totally agree. The key for me was to get to the mindset to start an account that I always put money into and never take out of. Once you start doing that even if you are literally only putting in a penny at a time. You get into the savings mindset. I found that just putting money in I didn't expect to get added up very quickly. Like you get a small refund from something for say $20. Put it in the account. Tax refund. Anything like that put it into the account. Once you get to 100k it gets so much easier to save large sums of money because your money grows tremendously if invested. It's amazing what compound interest can do.

I started investing myself (just a little on the side, it isn’t an impressive amount of money or anything), and I almost pulled out after the 1st month, because it took a little while to start making my numbers go up. I was so close to just cashing it out, right away, because I kept imagining the stock plummeting and losing it all. I ended the year at over 16%, so I’m happy I didn’t pull it out in full, when it went down right away!
@Bum_Hip

It’s so cliche, but time is your greatest asset, followed closely by diligent saving habits. I’d say it’s more important to religiously save a portion from every check than the amount you save. Of course more is better, but you can only do what you can do.

Exactly! My grandparents were so frugal but they had a TON of money on both sides. I remember my grandfather telling me "you want to make money while you sleep." And I guess that attitude passed down to my dad (RIP), because I remember going to his house one day and I had bought something I really liked, so I wanted to show it to him. So I said "Look at this! Isn't it cute? It was on sale...I saved 50%!" My dad replied "Well, if you're spending, you're not saving." Obviously I had no retort, and that has always stuck with me.

What manageable steps? All he did was basically say you need to save $2700 a month. Then proceeded to use someone making $75K as an example. After tax, that's like $4300 a month. So take out $2700 a month and you're left with $1600 for expenses. Then proceeded to suggest to do side jobs and hustles (which is ironic that means you need to make more than $75K gross)

It is easy to challenge people over reaching their available funds - give up X or Y etc. But many people are already running their budget without any fat to shed. When there is no spare after rent and basic foods, already home cook, never eat out or buy a starbucks - then there is nothing that can be saved. I grew up in that home. My parents avoided debt but we were hand to mouth with zero stuff to 'trim'. Investing for retirement? only the state pension. And side hustles? the gig economy was not as it is now. The options were Avon and Tupperware - mum tried both and like all mlms there was no win there.

Its one of the reasons why I mock them in my comments. The Ramsey team consistently ignores the usefulness of debt, and the value of investing early. Its not how much you invest, but how long you do it that matters the most. They harp on and on about paying off debt, and ignore the debt you have to yourself. Saving for a house is a worse investment than savings in a tax advantaged account like an IRA, 401k, or Roth

If you have no debt, they don’t make you pause anything before saving. They only have you pause to pay off consumer debt which should not take 3 years. And I’d bet a majority of people that don’t eliminate their consumer debt end up taking out more debt via 401k loans anyways. If the average 20 year old did listened to this advice and started investing at 25 vs say 22 it will not make any material difference. They can retire with $15M on one hand or $20M on the other hand. Who cares, they are rich either way. And one way was safer.

It works out quite well because if you've seen Dave or George videos them owing you a bunch is bad. The money you were paying extra previously was just being paid to you directly now, so make sure to start saving and it will make taxes better, even owing.

Hi George! Sebastian here (37), a Peruvian living in Canada, a huge fan of your f@ckin' crazy videos and a subscriber already! Quick one, I started investing on mutual funds (Vanguard) recently and I bought a Condo with my wife (no kids yet) I followed The Baby Steps, "do I need to stop investing to knock out my 20 year mortgage asap"? I've been following The Baby Steps, and I'm wondering if I should stop investing to pay off my 20-year mortgage as soon as possible and reduce 10 years? PS. I have my 6 months of expenses in a fully funded emergency fund. Thanks in advance.
@ericar.6370
@ericar.6370 21 день назад
No. The baby steps say you can invest if you’re debt free and have an emergency fund.
@nathalieisneon
@nathalieisneon 21 день назад
Baby steps say to invest 15% while paying off mortgage. The OBLY time they say to stop it after baby step 2 is if you can achieve your goal in 2 years. So would you be able to pay off your condo in 2 years if you both stopped retirement contributions? If the answer is no (you stated it would take 10 years) then no. You should not.

I’m from a state with ridiculous income tax and for me this isn’t feasible. I make 75k a year, live at home, pay 1k rent, take my gf out once a month, fill up gas once a month, take the bus to work, and help pay for groceries and utilities. This isn’t viable for me but I’m still doing my best to save as much as I can. I’m at 22k rn saved in cash with other money in retirement accounts
