Great video Micah and tips on selecting an Ali express vendor. I've watched lots of your videos and they gave me the confidence to build a bafang mid motor kit on an old Giant bike in lockdown. I'm loving it, around 1,000 miles so far 👍
I did try AliExpress and got ripped off. I never got the battery I ordered after 90 days but the vendor claimed it was at some community post office - shipped via Tracking Numbers that didn't work. The AliExpress arbitrator wanted me to prove that I didn't NOT receive the battery (impossible to do) and in the end the vendor got my money!
I don’t care about what anyone says, Amazon’s free shipping is not free. IF you can get it in two days, or now one day, it’s never cheaper. Unless Amazon has it in one of their warehouses, you are not getting it in two days anyway. Pay close attention to the “sold by” and the “ships by” on the product page, those make a huge difference on warranty and who ships it.
Thanks Micah. I ordered 8 items including a Bafang mid drive and a big battery along with a bunch of other items. I'm looking forward to speeding up my acoustic bike!
I’ve had very good results with AliExpress and Alibaba where with the latter I purchased one 20ah battery 36v battery for my jetson bolt. I have also bought just about everything under the sun from AliExpress including a zero 10x. Rarely do I have problems. Biggest complaint is with shipping, but that’s to be expected -unless of course like you said, they might have stock here “in country”. Everyone is very friendly, more so than on the other platforms (Amazon and EBay). Conversations are typically started and ended very respectful. I’m addressed with “dear” or “dear friend”. When I leave a comment or a “note”, the seller is quick to put to ease any issues. I’ll often ask them to “package extra strong”, though I know with free shipping, their margins are probably tight.
You are like the God of ebike Building. I am a retired seventy years young Canadian bike enthusiast. I just discovered your channel. I want to convert my touring bike into an ebike hopefully ready by next spring. Presently the weather here is pretty cold for bike riding. Could use some guidance as to the parts and where to purchase them at a reasonable price and quality. Thanks.
I own a Lectric XP and wanted to add a Coulomb counter that will give me an accurate battery power reading. I put my DVM across the ground wire that runs from the bulkhead to the controller and measured the mV over a range of currents. This data says the resistance is 3.7 milli ohms. My plan is to use an Arduino ATTiny-85 to integrate the current over time and use PWM into an analog meter to be a “gas” gage.
Thank you for such amazing video content! Learned a lot already. I just ordered two of your books to rebuild the ebike and battery myself instead of buying crap battery packs for premium money.
Thank you for the insight, I saw your video from 11.11 2019, and this year I tracked prices for over a month before 11.11 2020. I managed to purchase a bafang BBSHD kit for $776 CAD.
I have been buying from Aliexpress since almost 5 year now. All he says he holds true. And also the tips at the las.part.of the video, quite important to take pay attention. Thanks Micah
Thanks for the heads up on singles day, I'd never heard of it! Worth mentioning that in some countries, buying goods from China can come with a fairly hefty import duty/tax, so look out for that!
Cool! Didn't know about singles day. I wonder if they are just increasing their margins. I notice some of the stuff on ebay seems to be creeping up too.
I enjoyed all the video, is it possible making a rear drive bike kit with a front wheel generator like to charge the battery while the bike is moving? Never need to charge a battery 😂
YZ Power chargers were a good deal. I got a couple of a few 20s li-ion models for much cheaper than one can typically find; hard to get a 72V charger without a wait in the USA these days!
Hello sir. I have a question about battery pack. I have electric kickboard or scooter running at 52v 13ah. The question is can i change my battery to 52v 20ah or 35ah? If yes what else do i need to change? The motor is 1200w single motor. Thank you.
Hi Micah, would you recommend buying Kaabo/Dualtron controller (copy or not) instead of the popular Chinese YYK controller? also, would you recommend liitokala battery over other pricey branded batteries like LG or Samsung etc. thanks
Recently I am interested in electric ATVs they are very powerful and feel really comfortable riding them Will you make a video about them in the future?
Dear Micah, could you make a DIY electric Cargo bicycle? A 3 wheeler would be nice, cause you can use em in the winter much better. Greetings from Germany I really enjoy your videos. :)
I recently bought a UnitPackPower pack - I had to buy it through eBay since they didn't offer that particular pack from aliexpress. 1 caveat - I had to pay sales tax on it since I bought it through eBay even though it was built and shipped from China :/ The lower price packs they sell are not name brand batteries but they always tell you the packs that are. I bought a pack from them on aliexpress a couple years ago and it still works great. 1 other thing - the 11/11 sales are not the best sales on aliexpress! A couple of months ago they had better sales and lower prices on many ebike items, so check back every month or so until you find a good sale on what you want to get.
How do you rate Swytch kit ?? Was planning to get one - Main purpose is for commuting to work 5 days a week 18 km round trip with moderate hills in between. I currently have fitness road bike..So any suggestions ...Worth it ? I hate going the AliExpress & Bafangs bull as its not legal where I live and don't trust Chinese products from past experience.
No kidding about the "sale prices" I saved two items into "my cart" on the 10th for $1399 to buy on the 11th but the price went up to $1568. . . . I'll keep looking and may be buy these items another day!!
For Mid-drive conversion kits, you never mention Tongsheng TZDZ2 48V, 500W mid-drive that are "Torque Sensing". With a Flash update on Controller, people say it simulates a Bosch Torque Sensing Mid-drive pretty good. Max Torque is @ 80 NM vs Bafang BBS02 (120 NM) & BBSHD (160 NM) due to smaller motor - which also means longer battery range. Just curious. It deserves mentioning like the Bafangs
@@maatougibrahim2614 UNIT PACK POWER , 52v 1000w 17ah, I do get up to 30mph and between 10 to 15 mile range depending if you are just cruising or full throttle, this kit is ok , it's from ricetoo's (china) took 45 days to arrive, the coustermer service is good ,the display is like for totally beginners like me, they sent me a digital one that should be here in the next couple days if not sooner, I'm gonna hand this kit and battery down to my sister and put it on her old beach Cruiser, I have a hub for her bike, I have an ebikeling kit on it's way ( arriveing Tuesday) 52v 1200w 30a controller and gonna be ordering a very big battery ,the big triangler one that's 52v 1200w to 1500w that gets a much farther range up to 3× the range or more hopefully, this is my first experience with a DIY ebike, my first ebike at that as well, so I'd suggest you maybe think about a bigger battery, do you already have the kit , are you doing your first one or do you already have one ?
Compared to my currency (I'm from Denmark) the Yuan is only slightly less worth than last year at this time. The American dollar however is worth A LOT less. I guess this could be why the deals are not as good (or does not seem as good)?
Please I need some help I am 6 foot 350lb I looking to convert a bike into a ebike to get around town I would like to go like 28mph with little to no paddling Because I have Cerebral palsy on the right side of my body Thanks Benjamin 🙏
i have a question, if i bought say 3 of those 20ah 48v battery packs on amazon(the ones with the shrink on them and the discharge and charger wire hanging out) and tied them together in parallel to make one 60ah battery would only connecting the charger to one battery charge the other two? would the bms on all three work? ive done this with sla batteries but i know lithium is a dif animal but if i bought all three at once and the exact same pack each it should just work yes? thanks and stay safe.
Hello, maybe you can please recommend me a kit that I can convert a mountain bike. The ebike would be great for commuting in my town where are allot of traffic lights. Thanks
I have a Juiced HyperScorpion. I saw your review and was wondering if a different display can be used? The Juiced display is too small for my old eyes. Thank you.
HI Micah!!! What do you think about "boost converters"?? I have two 36v batteries, i wanna run them in paralel and add a booster to rise a bit te voltage, can it be possible? Will it work fine?? Ty in advance!
As I understand, the perceived wisdom is that a mid-drive motor is better for off-road, due to power delivery, packaging and weight distribution. Bafang do a good motor that replaces the bottom bracket. If mostly road use, then front or rear hub motors would be fine. There are usually options for a hub motor kit supplied with 26" wheels suitable for most mountain bikes.

What happened with the conversion of the motorcycle :(?
Probably had to do with the exchange rate. US$ has been dropping, especially this year because of the pandemic and the federal government needs to rescue people and business from the hard time. And Chinese dollars has been rising, along with Japanese currency and South Korean currency where many components may be coming from.
I'm waiting on one from Calibike now (back ordered, should be here in another week). Check out their website (he's on eBay too, but he charges more there). I got my 52v battery from UnitPackPower (see my other post on this video).
Today, fear of buying from china is not getting ripped off. What does your inner mind tell you? Should you be giving them business at first place after what they have done?
when you order things from china you better assume that something will go wrong and find out how to solve the issue yourself beforehand because you're unlikely to get help form the vendor.
