How to SAVE MONEY even on a LOW INCOME

Learning how to save money is what enabled me to leave an abusive relationship, becoming a single mom with two young children. After leaving that relationship, saving money allowed me to live with less stress and struggle - knowing I had a safety net whenever I needed it. I could be my own financial support system. Having money in savings isn't only a stress relief, but can end up saving you even more money by not relying on loans or credit cards with interest, late fees, or bank overdraft fees. Saving money makes living on a low income easier - but it can be really hard to save money when you aren’t making a lot. Here are some of the ways I have saved money while living on a low income.

If you are curious in some of the EXTREME, and maybe WEIRD, ways I save money, check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lVmtOWHtcBM.html

Thank you for the nice videos. I have similar habits to you, although my life circumstances are totally different. I also watched your video on 12 weird ways you save money, and it got me thinking: there really is nothing extreme in what you're doing. You still have all the luxuries of modern life available to you, and compared to how humans have lived for millennia, and how millions of people live around the world, you still live a life of luxury. It really speaks to the overconsumption of the western world - we've gotten too used to things that are not necessary or even adding to our life satisfaction. I am from Denmark, living in The Netherlands, and although we tend to live in smaller, more modest houses and bike everywhere, overconsumption is still a big thing. But it can't go on. I wouldn't be surprised if your way of living will become the norm in the future, or that it will actually become politically mandated in the future because of our failing ecosystems...

I agree with this so much ❤️ I don’t think what I am doing it actually weird at all - I think it is normal lol. But when I compare myself to everyone else - I feel like such a weirdo 🙃

I am home with my 4 kids and walk about 15 dogs in my neighborhood with my 13 year old son. The jobs are not consistent but everyone a family travels we walk the dogs and have a few during the week we always walk. I can walk or bike to these homes. I do not have to waste money on ‘work outfits’ or gas. I love dogs and walking so this has been a great job for us. Love your channel. So much great content!

Regarding jobs...I think more people should look into nursing. It's a great career (yes, it is challenging) but super flexible and lucrative. Someone can start as a nursing assistant at the hospital, have them pay for nursing school all the way up through a masters or even doctorate degree. Just a thought. :)

Love your videos. I have taken a very similar track as you. I’m remarried after seven years as a single mom. I deployed these same strategies to leave an abusive relationship. I told my now husband it’s like when you find the map to the treasure and you want to share it with others. I try to do the same. The hardest part for most is the fact that it takes persistence, consistency and learning to enjoy a simpler life. Though I find simple cozy and happy.

Hi Kate, I'm sure others have mentioned this to you before, but I wanted to encourage you to look for your local food pantries. We are a family of 10 and just recently I started to visit local pantries about 3 times a month. I was shocked how much food we are given and organic produce that is in perfect condition. Last summer I thought I was in heaven when they asked if I could use avocados and they gave me a huge box full. I enjoy your videos.

So true! I went from government housing and food stamps to middle class and it was a LONG HARD ROAD. I often wondered if I made the right decision because I struggled more with a slightly higher income than if I kept a lower paying job. Then after having more money I didn’t know how to manage it and got into debt and spending trouble. I was used to living pay check to paycheck and would just spend until it was gone. But it is possible, just keep faith, be frugal, and learning as much about money as possible, even before you have any.

I'm so grateful because I don't need a car where I live. That saves so much money, plus it provides more exercise by walking and cycling! I don't really like buses much, but that's another option - although with my bike, I rarely need to even take the bus. If I really need to use a car for some reason, I just rent one). Yay!

We do very minimal presents and prefer experiences. We usually cook that persons favorite meal + dessert and spend the day doing what they enjoy (beach, pool, hike, book store) and watch a movie together in the evening. Me and my oldest 2 all share the same b-day week, so sometimes we will go on a little trip/vacation :)

Just curious do you believe in donating to a church or charity you support even on a low income?
@raisingwildflowers
@raisingwildflowers Год назад
We donate our time instead of money 😊 We volunteer at an art center, with trash clean up on the beach, fostering dogs/cats, and with our local marine science center helping with rescue birds and turtles 🐢 I actually think giving your time is more valuable than money anyway - and it benefits the giver as well as the recipient. A better lesson for my kids than just donating 💰
@lyndabelknap8367
@lyndabelknap8367 Год назад
@@raisingwildflowers I do both and donating your time is great but you still need money given to pay the bills at any church for heat especially in Canada, lights, water etc. Time is valuable like you said but money keeps the doors open.

@lyndabelknap8367
@lyndabelknap8367 Год назад
@@lindawilson8434 I agree, when you donate your time you are usually helping an organization that you enjoy and it is more social. Giving up money is a real gift and you are learning to go without to help others and not just building your wealth. If everyone just gave their time none of these places would exist.

The only way to save is simply to not spend. Stop buying chips, sodas, snack cakes, no fast food, eat left overs, portion control, turn all of the lights off and unplug what ia not in use. By the end of the month, that stuff all adds up.
