Saving $100 in 8 minutes using the sawmill cutting 4 2x8x16 boards priced at $24 a piece!
P.S. this is Hannah, I posted this video and got the inches and feet wrong on the caption. I was boarding a plane while typing it, so please forgive me.

Brings back fond memories of working with my friend for a few years on his wood-mizer sawmill. We made a lot of Live Edge beautiful tables, fireplace mantels shelves benches and such. Unfortunately he died of mouth cancer. He was a wonderful friend and devout Christian. He once went to Alaska with just a chainsaw and built himself a log cabin in the wilderness. He could do and build anything much like Jeff. God bless you sir.

Like you I planted my own trees 20 years ago and now I am thinning the stand. Unlike you, I have a chainsaw mill. It works fine for timbers and 8"x8" or 6"x6". Too slow for anything smaller. Watching you convinces me I need a bandmill. Thanks for the great content, love that cabin design and stay healthy!

I like the mill but the coolest thing I like is you are saving the material, drying it and in a lot of cases using it for your own projects like houses and cabins. I like to see someone reap the rewards or savings from their own labor. I like businesses that are smart enough to see where their costs are and rather than just buy from the cheapest manufacturer, they cut out the middle man and become the manufacturer themselves. how one business they started feeds another.

How much do these type of mills go for? Would be nice to get something like this when I build a cabin on our farm. I’m 25, and been saving awhile. I’m a apprentice in ibew but know a decent amount of most trades from working growing up. But I’m stuck between building another cabin on our farm and getting a mill. Or buying a few shipping containers and making a cool house out of them. I can weld so that would come in handy with the shipping containers. Anybody that’s older that’s done either of these or own a mill like this can you pay it off pretty quick from cutting and selling wood? Or what would you do a cabin or use containers? People do so pretty cool stuff with them. I’ve got a great spot looking over the Ohio river I plan on building a house this year. We just built our hunting cabin this past year.

Hey Jeff, would you say that it's ok to have 1/8 tolerance when you make lumber or do you expect it to be right on on every cut? Question from Nova Scotia.
@jeffbarron70
@jeffbarron70 3 года назад
I like to be closer, but a lot of times as you cut boards off of a cant, it will draw, making some boards thicker or thinner on the ends

My 2 nd/great grandfather/ Peter morell Jones had a sawmill on his property when my grandfather Joseph Lester Jones was a young boy. My son has talked to me about us buying one of these types of small saw mill machines. Might just invest some of my 401k money into doing so once I move back to live in the Northeast Tennessee in the tri cities area around johnson city/bristol and kingsport. Could be a good revenue generator in my older years.
