Here my habits other than mentioned in this video. - Service the car regularly(semi synthetic or fully synthetic give better mileage but also at higher cost, find the balance or promotion deal - ignition part replace timely(spark plugs) - filling fuel and drive during night or early morning improve mileage slightly due to colder temp(denser air). - tire pressure I pumped about 10% higher than stated spec on car(follow tire spec limit than follow car manufacturer RECOMMENDED spec) - try each different fuel brand and measure the mileage per tank and then stick to the one that gives better ones, - invest in good tint because : 1-it protects from harmful UV 2-gets cooler fast during hot day 3-with point no 2, it reduce work for ac compressor and helps give more mileage. 4. With point 3, longer AC compressor life span. - choose appropriate car that feeds the need or function which suits your daily driving. Don't drive big heavy SUV for daily solo drive, can go for compact cars. Unless you are rich, this comment not for you. - on highway, cruise behind another car(bigger car like van is better) at safe distance, it helps reduces drag and uses less fuel hence increase mileage. - see far ahead, it you gonna stop totally then might just slow earlier and hope cars ahead move. The key is let the car keep moving even at lower speed. So anticipate you can slowly crawl till the car ahead moves. It is better to accelerate from 10kmh than total standstill and this uses less fuel to pick up. Also can help reduce traffic jams and safer because cars behind will reduce speed and we can avoid being rear ended. Sorry for long essay, but these my experience over 20yrs driving.
Stoooobid. Just make Carbikes lah. Half car, and half bike. Save half of fuel and more pedalling on human exercise. Your problem solved on gas shortages over the coming decades. 😂
@@Anthony-eb6fk in certain point I agree. But it is just my test and trial. You do get stiffer ride. Raising tire pressure also accelerate control arm bush wear and tear. But do remember if you go with different tire brand than what the manufacturer tested, the result also may vary different tires different composition. Some soft wall some harder wall. I use Michelin XM2(one of most expensive here in Malaysia) that is always slight(10%) above pressured and it actually gave better handling in straight or turn and firmer ride. But in this context, it is about fuel saving. So reducing friction is the key and increase of tire pressure helps. When you have a stiffer tire, the wall flexes lesser and reduce heat. The flexes in the tires walls causes heat, and the heat is an energy transfered from friction made by momentum which ultimately is fuel. It may be minuscale but it is there. Underinflated on other hand can cause tire wear prematurely too and is more dangerous than over inflated(not exceed tire limit). By adding 10% more than spec works fine for all my cars with Michelins.
@@BLU3D4Ysingapore charges taxes at 200% in tax based on fuel tank if your is over 30 % full entering Singapore ! So if your cat cost $ 65 to fill up in Singapore you would be $130 entering singapore if you declare to officer ! But failure to declare would be a higher fine!
one practical way to save on petrol use not mentioned in this program is to not speed. The slower one drives while cruising the more mileage one gets over the same distance...but ultimately in my opinion the best way to get real saving is to drive less and use bus/MRT more
How I save on Petrol? I ditched my car and use my bike/E-bike instead for my regular travel to work. I only ever use my car now for long journeys or if I need to bring tons of things.
Replacing air filter and correct type of engine oil will also save a significant amount of fuel. Also replacement transmission oil regularly so gear shift will happen at the right engine spped. This was not checked in this experiment. Anyway good job👍
actually most cars can take RON92 fuel. check the owners manual for the minimum fuel grade u need to pump. i've been pumping my 2018 g30 520i with RON92 (owners manual says AKI 89, which is equivalent to RON 92) since day 1. no issues at all. some knocking sounds during engine startup, but it will not affect engine. best tip to save $$ on fuel is to turn on the start/stop function. engine will cut when you are at red light or stopped for long period of time. also use eco mode if your car has it. the car will coast and maintain speed for u, and will control your acceleration.
I use the lowest octane, try to keep the load down in my pickup, and limit myself to one trip to town per week or less. (It’s 34 miles.) It’s come to a choice between staying home most of the time or forgoing my blood pressure and arthritis medications. I’m embarrassed to be using my church’s food pantry and on two occasions, removing food from a dumpster where I’d just seen an employee dump it.
I'm from indonesia and live in one of Jakarta's satellite city, I use motorcycle more often if I'm gonna go somewhere less than 80km radius and alone to save me fuel cost and time of travel
We live just outside a small, very pretty town . But my husband works in a bigger town and needs to drive quite a bit to work. Thankfully his employer allows the scientists to work from home, when they don’t have to be in the lab. We want to buy a plug in hybrid now ( full electric could be a problem with the snow here, in winter ). But, it’s not easy, to even get one. We could more easily buy a normal hybrid but we think the plug in is the way, to go. So, maybe we will have to be on a waitlist for a few months or longer….
Most Singaporeans don't have cars let alone drive. I wouldn't imagine it's a direct concern, what would matter would be inflation in products requiring petrol to import such as food.
Guys I have a dilemma everytime i drive because i stay in Hougang so when i go to Marine Parade i always have 2 options , one is by highway (KPE>ECP) and the other is by hougang ave3 >still road. the highway is double the distance of the normal road but has way lesser traffic light(but its 20KM total compared to 8KM), i always wonder which route actually consumes more fuel in the end. …which route would be preferred for lower fuel consumption
Smooth traffic vs congested traffic won't save u 50% petrol in my experience but your distance is more than double. So I will pick the 8KM. My fuel consumption affected by about 25% for traffic heavy drives vs KPE drives so I had the same considerations.

I don't agree about RON95 and 98 mileage test (at 20:43). The theoratical vehicle's mileage is fixed by engine design, it will not change no matter what you pump in. Instead, the car should be hooked up to a dyno and measure engine power output. For a non-turbo engine, there is little difference but the difference is significant for turbo engines (high pressure engines).
really do not understand why the new Prius does 700km per tank when my ex-car the 2012 Prius can achieve 850-900km per tank (I drove for 5 year, and the consumption is consistently 20-22km/liter). .. yes, the fuel tanks are roughly the same size of around 40 liters.
I don't know in Singapore but price goes up quick even with old petrol in the tank of the station but omg so slow the other way meaning that the petrol station makes a nice no increase cost profit !
A good way to save your money on petrol is to use Bikes and Scooters instead of car. Generally an average car gives a mileage of 15 Km/L while a bike or scooter gives around 40 - 50 Km/L.
Agree. Most Japanese s3ldom use their vehicle in going to work. But they rather use a bike and use the public transportation. That is why they save their petrol.
I see people all the time sitting in cars with engine on just looking at their phones or sleeping or whatever. People using the AC when it is 70F outside....there are a lot of wasteful people on this planet.

All these tips are useless for fuel saving , esp in a small island in Sg. PHV driver is believable. As for Wish, I will leave it to u. Just use a bit of common sense.
Its my neighborhood Esso, the ESSO SENGKANG WESTWAY, I don't think we can save on petrol fee since you are driving a petrol car. So the best way to save cost is driving a EV, we need government and HDB to take aggressive action to install charging point in residence buildings. Government say 5 - 10 years progressively install charging point in every town. No, too late, we can do it in 3 years.
The government tax on petrol is 66 cents per litre. The way to reduce the price is to submit demands that the petrol tax be lowered. This video is beating around the bush instead of pointing out the elephant in the room.

The consumption of petrol depends on different factors. First is the driving style of the driver. If we are usually on a go stop driving style. It will give a higher petrol cost. Remember, most car manufaturer will tell you that if we are driving in a city, the km per liter of petrol is lower compare on a long drive which is higher. Second we have to consider the age of the vehicle. Despite that we are doing a Preventive Maintenance of the vehicle. Still the older vehicle will still consume much petrol compare to the newer car. Because of the new technology that most car manufacturer put on the new car. With regards to 95 and 98 octane, lets define the meaning of octane. An octane rating is simply a measure of how heat resistant a fuel is in order to prevent knocking. In other words, octane doesn't enhance combustion - it prevents the air-fuel mixture inside an engine from igniting before it's supposed to. The higher a fuel's octane, It itl is harder to ignite because it requires greater compression to do so than lower octane fuels. The higher the octane rating, the less likely the petrol is to explode under pressure. And all car manufacturers indicate it on the car's manual and on the petrol tank cover. So please follow what is in the manual.
I drive a 2016 Toyota Prius Hybrid, and I am a Private-Hire Driver too. However, I can achieve up to 1000km per tank. He drives a 2020 or newer car but can only achieve 700km per tank? Driving habits sure make a big difference!
@@MrRazorteeth Yes, it is not difficult to achieve 1000km per tank on a Toyota Prius Hybrid. When I was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla Altis, I ever achieved >700km on a full tank of fuel.

At least, Singapore's salaries have much better spending power than the rest of other ASEAN countries. If you can't cross the congested border checkpoints into JB or Batam to enjoy cheaper food, at least you still have convenience stores within walking distances to buy essential food items or hawker stalls to enjoy your stir-fried dishes.
Who cares about that if petrol so high..and if singaporean have highest salary why need to go to other countries to buy food. Support local product is better meh
Pump at Sinopec at Bukit Timah (just after Coronation Plaza) and you get 23% off the pump price across all payment modes. Plus earn points with their Loyalty Card to redeem free petrol. No other petrol company can beat this.
One way to save on petrol bill is to modify your car petrol gauge to read more than 3/4 full at a flick of a button, cross the causeway, secretly change car plate number and pump RON95 in Malaysia.
