I love this comment. Our society often associates beauty and youth. People talk about losing beauty as people get older. I say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think the media has a lot to do with how we perceive beauty. There should be more out there showing all kinds of beauty including inner and outer beauty. A person's character is also more important.

Last year I winnowed on my deck and this year there are a lot of mizuna plants and some radishes coming up from where seed fell down through the deck planks. To do over again, I might winnow on my catch-all plot where I just let things grow and see which are the strongest. Winnowing is my favorite gardening activity, it's so much fun to start with a bowl of crumbled plant pieces and end with those beautiful clean seeds.

There is indeed beauty in the seeds, I grow most everything FOR their seeds! I have learned the hard way how to store the seed, some I honestly thought they were dry enough then placed in a large ziploc well it molded and what a sad waste but now I know you not only have to dry the seed but you must let them cure also! I find it so rewarding to grow and collect seed and save !!!

My father was a landscape gardener and tried many ways of drying seed, his best way was to place seed in a thin paper bag and using a satety pin, pinning the top of the bag to a curtain so that the bag was between window glass and curtain fabric. We had very productive gardens both vegetable and flowers plus a wonderful orchard. Growing up in that orchard made my childhood blissful, the perfect all enclosing refuge, particularly needed since primary school was absolutely ghastly and a complete and utter waste of my time.

Youre awesome dude. I like what you said about people’s “preconceived notions of beauty”. People are so out of touch nowadays that they wouldn’t know beauty if it hit them in the head. Another truly beautiful & useful video, Mr. Oliveira. I draw so much inspiration from your garden practices. I am growing flowers for the first time this year (Zinnia, Cosmos and Marigolds primarily) and will definitely employ this method to save seeds at the end of the season. Unfortunately, I have to rely pretty heavily on hybrid seeds for my vegetables. I would love to grow heirloom only, but my garden grows under a canopy of oak trees and barely gets 3-4 hrs of direct sun a day. The hybrid seeds help compensate for increased disease/pest issues I experience. But I will make up these beautiful jars to save my flower seeds in, for sure! Thank you so much!
@suburbanhomestead
@suburbanhomestead 6 лет назад
That is a good way to use hybrids. My garden is also a bit on the shady side so I understand. Good luck with the flowers!

Thank you for easy understanding about seeds, you teach it so natural too. We was wondering if you would be making more of the cute seed jars to sell. I love from garden to cooking to table and seeing the beautiful dishes you use. I see the display of shells and wonder if one day you would take one out for us to see closer and tell us about the shell, where they naturally come from(are crushed shells good for the soil for tomatoes ?) . Love seeing the beautiful furniture in your home, feels relaxing and calming, not like the harsh modern furniture. Seeing the indoor plants around you gives softness. I enjoy the clips from the past, photos from the past, interesting history. Your videos are always a joy to watch and great to learn from because it is snips of different things. Sometimes I watch your videos again because I love watching them very much. You are a real treasure for many of us. Sunday routine of your videos help end the week delightfully. Thank you for the subtitles for people like us. Look forward to see the new changes your doing in the new year but I like they way you do them now because i feel they are really brilliant. Monsanto is now genetically modifying seeds to produce suicide seeds. Basically once you harvest, those seeds you harvest are born dead. F%#@ing evil corporation, they now own Kelloggs and many food companies too. They are also planning on owning all seeds for agriculture including cannabis, to prevent farmers from producing their own seeds. Many farmers in India committed suicide because of his gmo seeds putting them outta business.

Love this video! From a devoted gardener, thank you for all the hard work producing this. My husband and I are wanting to grow heirloom variety cutting flowers and vegetables, something we haven’t done before. How do you go about preserving the purity of heirloom seeds by the end of the season without cross pollination? ❤️🌱🍅🥕🌻🌸
@classicrocklover5615
@classicrocklover5615 4 года назад
My suggestion: Inly grow 1 variety of any type flower or vegetable. So, only 1 type of corn, 1 type of tomato, 1 type of pansies, etc. Cross pollination becomes an issue usually when you plant 2 or more of the same type of plant.
