I think we tried that 2 years ago and the humming birds never found our feeder in the orchard. Our Montmorency cherries are the last that the birds want as they are not as tasty to them as the other sweet cherries are.

Maybe try various locations in the orchard? It helps to put the feeders up at the right time of year (April-ish in our area) when they are coming through. Right now, we are kinda late for our area so we'll see if they show up for us or not. And plenty of red. If they aren't seeing the feeders, maybe try a feeder where even the glass is colored red? In the past we would use mixes with red dye in the water, but we understand that could be harmful for the hummingbirds, so we don't do that anymore.

That's amazing! I didn't know they were territorial (keeping the big birds out) and pollinators. I'm always amazed when I watch them slurp the sugar water with their long tongues. They are little jewels. Be aware, praying mantis attack and eat hummers.

Will they do the same to chipmunks?

I don't know. It seems like they go after anything that encroaches on their territory, so if the chipmunks got up in the tree, I think it's quite possible the hummingbirds would chase them off.
