I looooved this video. For someone who's a lazy Japanese learner, but loves the language and wants to communicate with one's friends, this was a perfect video. I think your characters on the Japanese channel are hilarious, so I think you could maybe draw some inspiration from your daily life (subjects: like traveling, everyday), but bring them alive with the characters. For example to demonstrate the honorific differences with the same sentences (someone explains same story in a different manner, just like in this video) would be hilarious material I think. :) Keep it up, I love you Chika!

Thank you for posting a new video! I've been relying on your other channel to brush up my Japanese skills. I hope you enjoy your Hawaii trip - you'll be happy to know that it's not humid here in Hawaii as it is in Japan right now. As for your videos, I first discovered Japanagos last month when I was prepping for my trip to Japan and I enjoy watching your videos about Japan, where to eat, famous places, cultural stuff, etc. Your Japanese lessons are helpful as well - very well explained. Enjoy your trip!

Hey Chika! Just wanted to say that I love your videos and how varied they are on both channels. I enjoy the cultural things as well as the Japanese lessons, and it's very interesting to see how you explain some American cultural things as well. I really like how in this video you posted some slightly intermediate things, but still kept it accessible to beginners. Keep up the good work!!

Hi Chika! I really enjoy your videos - you are always doing interesting things, and are really good at teaching Japanese (even if it isn’t your favorite thing to do!). You explain things very well and make it understandable. I really loved your bamboo shoots video. So many jvloggers focus just on city life, when you make a point of exploring many types of places. I would love it if you did some more videos in the natural places that make Japan special. Thanks for all that you do, and I hope you have a great trip to Hawaii!

Thanks for the Japanese lesson! I appreciate when you try to teach us more of this complex language. Don't know if anyone else would be interested in this, but I would like to learn more about the spiritual beliefs of the Japanese. How do they feel about God? How do they feel about the spirits of nature? Guardian angels? Life after death? How common is it to believe that the souls of the departed can come back and interact with the living? Is this something that's accepted by the majority? Is it talked about openly? Thanks. Anyway, that's so sweet that you're treating your parents to Hawaii!! Enjoy yourselves and have an awesome, relaxing trip!! :)

Hi! I love your videos, I've just subscribed. I started taking nihongo lessons in March and I'm thrilled! Btw, you're right about Spanish; we also drop the subject all the time. This absence or ellipsis of the subject is called "sujeto tácito" ("tácito" is literally 'silent, quiet'), and we do it specifically because verbs in Spanish inflect for person, time, number, case, aspect, voice, etc. So, if you say "Hablo español", the verb tells you it's the first person of the singular, in the present simple tense, in the active voice, etc. Pretty cool! I for one can't wait to speak some Japanese fluently! :D

Hi Chika, I am currently learning Japanese on a casual basis, once a week after work; and I would find a video about about short-term Japanese study in Japan interesting. The reason for this is that I currently have a career in my home country that I would not like to leave, but I quite like the idea of taking a holiday and spending several weeks in Japan learning Japanese. I think a video about short-term study would be interesting and present an interesting option for those of us who are no longer students and do not wish to enroll in long-term courses that are aimed at high-school and university students. Thanks for the great videos and enjoy the trip with your family.

Hi Chika! I think you won't have to worry about needing to make language videos all the time if that's not what you're keen on doing as there are tons of resources for that on RU-vid already. You honestly have some really great content and I'd just say keep it up! So many J-Vloggers sort of post the same sort of content at times, visit the same locations, talk about the same cultural nuances etc. I often find that, while they're fun to watch, it's often not anything I haven't heard before. Many of your videos are very refreshing though in that you explore parts of the culture with a level of depth that isn't offered really anywhere else. What makes them so enjoyable is your ability to relate Japan's history (in terms of events, culture, language, etc.) to whatever it is you're talking about. A good example is the kotatsu video! Every J-Vlogger has a kotatsu video it seems but you brought something new to the table and taught us about a nice string of history :) Things like that are what I see you excelling in :)

Would be really cool to see a video about Japan's geography, political and otherwise. Like all the different prefectures, cities, lifestyles, environments, cultures, etc., in all different parts of Japan. Also I think a video on Japanese public opinion would be awesome! Could you use naoru for colds and whatnot? E.q. Senshu kaze ga hichatta. Mada kaze ga naoranai. Saite! ? That said I like this very relaxed video style. So far my favorite part of Japanagos videos are for finding wonderful things to do when I do get to a point where I can travel. It's been wonderful seeing unique experiences one can have in Japan, like diamond Fuji, or those open markets, or eating those yummy looking soft noodles among the fall leaves. But these relaxed videos are nice too. Whatever you would like really. You're a pretty charming person and fun to watch Chika!

Hello Chika ! thank you thank you thank you ! Love listening to your lively English and Japanese videos. Here is a topic I'm very much interested in : aizuchi ! would you care to say a few words about it? what is it? how important is it in Japan? Merci !
@Edwardxlsx
@Edwardxlsx 8 лет назад
It is quite strange to say "watashi wa jisaboke desu.", or"私は時差ボケです。". It may sound just like "I am a jetlag." in English. "〇〇は××です。" means the same as "〇〇 is equivalent to ××". But actually nobody is a jetlag, right? So we say "jisaboke (wo) shiteiru." but not " watashi wa jisaboke desu." in Japanese. The word "jisaboke" can be both noun and verb. When we use it as a verb, "jisaboke shiteiru", it simply means "be jetlaged". And as a noun in a sentence, we have to add a verb to complete it. The most natural verb for it is "wo shiteiru". It is like "be influenced by". Take it easy! The grammatical explanation make it just more complicated. However, there is no difference between the two usages. You can say "(sb) wa jisaboke shiteiru"in the present sentences, "(sb)wa jisaboke shiteita" in the past sentences. These sentences are completed. Putting somebody's name or pronoun instead of (sb), then you can use it easily!

I live in Fukuoka and it's been around 26 degrees with like a 60% humidity. But, it's really not bad, because there is a nice breeze all the time here. I'm from Indiana, where it is often around 26 degrees in the Summer, or hotter, with a high humidity, but there is never a consistent breeze. So, I don't think it's as hot as everyone says. Tokyo is further north than here, so it's probably cooler than it is here too. I guess if you aren't used to this kind of weather, you might think it's really hot. But, it's really not that bad. Especially with the A/C on the trains and at home. :) I'm going to Hawaii in about 3 1/2 months on my way home. I've never been to Hawaii. Which island would you suggest to someone that's never been to Hawaii? Do you have any preferences? Do you have any tips? Thanks!

Thanks, as always, for sharing your culture and travels with us, Chika! As for the matter of what issue I'd love to see you talk about sometime in the future (if you're game), I've got a toughie for you: if you were to generalize, what do Japanese people tend to think about the concept of love? I ask this because Miho Hatori of the New York City-based Japanese musical duo, Cibo Matto ('Food Love/Porn,' in Italian), once opined in print somewhere that (in her opinion) mutual sympathy was the basis and ultimate manifestation of love between a couple in Japanese culture (she even wrote a song lyric, "We have sympathy," to that effect). As a North-American, this intrigued me, because I doubt that the word 'sympathy' is the first word to come to mind for most North-Americans when contemplating the matter of love. No worries if this is too bizarre, personal, difficult, or deep a topic for you to address, Chika, as I posed the question to a couple of other jvloggers some time ago only to find them to be both intrigued but admittedly a bit stumped. My reason for asking this question beyond mere curiosity? In my own personal life I'm trying to incorporate some Buddhist spiritualism into my wider existentialistic and First Nations-based (i.e. North American Indian) spiritual world-view, which is grounded in the premise: creation = love. Thanks for taking the time to read this; I hope that you have a great day, regardless of whether or not you consider my topic suggestion! :)

Out of curiosity is there an anime you like? I would also like to see a few videos about what you like to eat or consider a treat. An example for me would be bad day cured by chocolate. Are there any old stories or legends you like? Lately anime has moved away from the Meiji revolution and gone more towards the stories of the warring states era. I also remember some old movies about Amaterasu and Susanoo.

You should do a video on what some good Japanese dramas are, like what ones are the most popular and stuff :)

Topic: Here's the scenario, you're a gaijin who just got off the plane in Japan for the first time....What would be the main questions that you would ask a local? Where is the train station? Which area has the best shopping? Where can I get great affordable sushi? How can I get to the temple? etc... 😊

Ms.Chika could you explain in Japanese how to use "air quotes?" This 手振り seems really hard for Japanese learners to grasp.

I hope you make a video on culture do's and don'ts. Both times I've been to Japan I've ended up doing some small errors that might have made people look at me strange, only thing I can think of now is when I received a business card from a person and I put it directly in my wallet... a big no no -__-

In your description with the phrases, it looks like you have the same kana for nandayone and nandayona. I believe the nandayona should end with な. Of course I could be wrong and maybe it's an implied pronunciation?

Thank you for this lesson. It's actually my first time learning about this word. By the way, do you have any plans of creating characters for this channel as well, or have Joushi, Erika, and Sachiko cross over? That'd be interesting. xD

How about some social drinking videos with all the names of the drinks and various snacks - for example "she would like a dirty martini and what sort of snacks do you have?" "Lets go bar hopping and I feel like an Irish Coffee" .....Your talent, creativity and projection are sublime but most of all I love the attention to detail.

Would it ever be appropriate to say "jisaboke ga arimasu", like "I have jetlag", or does it only work to say "jisaboke desu"/I am jetlagged? Thank you for this very informative video!

My best advise would be to cherish your parents while they are still "young" -- as they continue to age, you may find that their personalities may change due to illness that unfortunately seems to come along with becoming elderly. Have fun in Hawaii!

thank you for this helpful video ^^ I might need it, when I fly all the way around the world from Germany to Japan... isn't it exactly 12 hours? for your videos I just can say, that I enjoy all kinds of topics... but the most helpful are these, where you switch from english to japanese because the only thing I have problems with is understanding the spoken language... you can also mix up things ^^ how about a song in japanese translated into english? the main reasons why we are interested in this country and the language are anime, music, culture and the language itself... so we'll never get tired of videos, that teach Japanese, cultural facts or japanese history... I personally would love to see/hear something about J-Rock/J-Pop because I'm a musician ^^ but music is rather subjective... I also play Go 囲碁 and would be interested to hear, what Japanese people think about it... that's very specific, I know XD but every person is different... you should do what you like to share with us ^^ so you don't have to force yourself to do something you don't even like... every single video is appreciated! I hope I could help you... edit: waah... almost forgot... have fun in Hawaii ^^
