Best advice I ever got: Don’t say “yes” when you mean “no.”

I've never heard that before but makes total sense - it's so common to do exactly that! I think that's why I like strategy 1 so much - it gives me time to pause, reflect on what I really want, before making a rash response. Thanks for commenting.

Thank you this is brilliant. It has helped me say no in a relationship issue that was needed for self care in my case 😊

I love this comment - it's a perfect example of what we're saying "no" for - which is always to make space for something (or someone) more important... in this case, to care for self. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Daniel. I'm currently studying at Theological College and working in a church, and I am having opportunities to do good things coming left, right and centre. I love the idea of a greater yes. It's so helpful to consider that saying no overall is not by nature a negative thing, even though it may disappoint the one asking. Thanks for your videos, I have also enjoyed the email ninja content and found that very useful (including the updated reminder to just do it again if you have fallen into bad habits again - which I had!)

Thanks mate - it's certainly a good lesson to reflect on in your context. In our newest podcast series (for release in September) we talk about the stages of life and what it means to be productive in different seasons. It's good to say "yes" to lots in your 20's and early 30's, to 'build a container' and learn vital skills for the future. And then as you get more opportunities, saying "no" becomes the secret of success ... sounds like you're juggling both the need for "no" and "yes" in different ways. Keep thinking about your greater "yes" and the cost of each yes ... it reminds me of Luke 14:28-30 :) Thanks for commenting.

Enjoy your videos Daniel & am learning all the time on how to improve life balance. Working in the Health area is a tough gig, but I am putting together a range of notes to reflect on what is really important & necessary. I have downloaded the e-book & look at it regularly. I've tried to encourage my manager & colleagues to take the time to hear your messages, but I've only managed to succeed with one of my colleagues. I'll keep trying. Cheers, Tracey

Tracey - so good to hear from you. Thanks for these encouraging words! Having worked in health in a past life (well, a decade ago), I understand some of the complexities and joys as well. One thing I would have liked to add to the eBook (it's coming in my Priority Samurai eLearning in October) is to expand on the "no" idea to include delegation, reduction, outsourcing and automation (not just elimination / subtraction). But add all these together and you end up with more space - to focus on what truly matters. Thanks for connecting - make space!
