Part seven of the Beautiful Words series, Sublime has long been one of my favourite words. In some senses (i.e.the religious sense) it is a word specifically used to describe something indescribable. Isn’t that a kind of magic?
Taken from the suffix ‘sub’ (meaning under or up to; in this case in the sense to look up to) and lime(n) (threshold, boundary; related to liminal and limit) it has several meanings and many inflections. Perhaps I’ll do a video series on inflections?
Oh, and check out my new dictionaries! They say they are short, which means that out there, somewhere in a charity shop or used bookshop are the BIG ONES.
BRING ME THE BIG ONES.
Ahem.
