The T and D are made in the same position of the mouth - tongue tip is slightly flat and behind your teeth at the roof of your mouth! "Explode" the 'T" by pushing your tongue away from the roof of your mouth! That's how you make the "T" sound! Do the exact same, but just turn your voice ON to make the "D" sound!
Use touch cues and visuals to help your child remember which sound to use in the word!
As you decrease cues, take away the verbal imitation first, and keep the touch cue/visual!

really good stuff, where do you place your tongue tho? is it a little bump about one centimeter from your upper teeth? What do you use for T and D sounds? tongue tip or tongue blade? What parts of the tongue are exactly tongue top and blade are? Thank you!
@TheSpeechScoop
@TheSpeechScoop 2 года назад
the sound /t/ is produced by touching the tip of the tongue on the ridge, just behind the upper front teeth - while the lips stay gently apart. - practice on yourself to gain the correct placement and understanding for explaining to a child! tip and blade are touching the alveolar ridge

SLP here. I’m working with a kid who can produce t and uses it in proper contexts, but he backs d as a g sound instead. I’ve tried “turning voice on” when doing t and switching between unvoiced t and voiced d, but he always moves his tongue back to g when we are doing d. I told him his tongue is moving back when he tries to do d, and that his d and t should feel the same in the mouth. But it hasn’t worked. Any advice?

Hi Kelli, I’ve only just noticed that my t and ds don’t sound right compared to everyone else. Is there anymore exercises to improve to you positioning and mouth positioning to improve it? At the moment it sounds like a child saying t and d if you get what I mean

I did whispering for P sound, my kid never moved from whispering it to normal sound. So I yelled a word "Papa" and finally she moved on. 2 years old substitute T with N. Any tips?

@@TheSpeechScoop she cannot say words. they are all approximation. I model ta-ta and heard na-na (tah-tah, nah-nah, it's "a" sound what americans use for sheep animal). I am not teaching her English. L sound substitute with N as well. She only recently started to say N sound, but only to substitute.

How to teach /d/ sound to 10 years ASD and cochlear implant child... who have 3,4 words vocabulary.. mama, baba, maso, Mobile (not clear)
@TheSpeechScoop
@TheSpeechScoop 2 года назад
Is there a reason why you would like to teach the D sound specifically? Just wondering if it might be someone’s name or like “dada”? Typically we only focus on language until they have an “age appropriate vocabulary” but if you are teaching “d” for dada then that is a functional word and that’s definitely important!

The opening is too long. I was trying to look for a good t and d pronunciation video to share with my ESL students, but the opening is so long that the video looks like an advertisement. Why not just provide exercises for the kiddos and then explain to parents later in the video?
