How to say "WEAR" in Korean [TalkToMeInKorean]

In English, the verb "to wear" can be used quite universally for many types of things. In Korean, however, there are various verbs that are used specifically for different types of items. So when you want to say that you are "wearing" something, or "putting on" something, you need to know several verbs: 입다, 쓰다, 차다, 하다, 신다, 끼다 etc. We hope you enjoy this video lesson with our new teacher, Jooyeon (박주연).

She's very good at explaining and easy to listen to. HOWEVER, I didn't realize there were this many ways to say "to wear". I was so unprepared for this haha, will definitely revisit this video later down the line. Thanks TTMIK!

I've come to notice that she even pronunces -th sound in the beginning of that. Most of people with English as second language tends to ignore that including me. Actually i started paying attention to my -th sounds after hearing her's. Great!

For me it’s helpful if I can think of other words we use in English too. For example we ‘apply’ makeup, we ‘wrap’ a scarf,

Some other words: - 걸치다: for something you just slightly put on your body, especially when you wear a jacket or coat without buttoning or zipping. (재킷을 걸치다, 코트를 걸치다) - 뿌리다: for something you spray on your body or hair, like a perfume. (향수를 뿌리다, 탈취제를 뿌리다) - 메다: for something you put on your body or back with stripes, like a bag, backpack, or a cross bag. (가방을 메다)

how do i differentiate between 를 and 믈 ? They are used in between an object and the verb right? How do i know which one to use? :O is there already a video explaining this? :D Your videos are awesome by the way! so beginner-friendly!! :D
@erichchan3
@erichchan3 7 лет назад
First to clarify one mistake you had and that it is 를 (reul) and 을(eul). Not 믈(meul). 를 and 을 are object marking particles and is part of learning Korean grammar. You use 을 if the object word ends in a consonant and 를 if the object word ends in a vowel. For example 반지(ring) ends in a vowelㅣso you use 를 and you say 반지를. For 장갑 (gloves) ends in a consonant ㅂ, so you use 을 and you say 장갑을. The concept is not that hard. Hope this makes sense. You should try to watch the video again and look at each object she mentions and see if you can understand this now.

If I may ask, where is 박즈연 from? (hope I spelled that right!) Maybe it is just my ears, but I think I'm hearing something a bit different from the standard capital accent when she speaks Korean. Since a lot of Korean humor is based on differences in regional accents I'm trying to learn to hear the difference.
