I always just say 'watch your sister' sauce and everyone immediately knows what I'm talking about, A few others started saying it this way and usually brings a grin and head nod of approval
definitely thought you were capping your ass off when i first heard this but after further research i’ve come to the conclusion that hearing right, so thanks ig
I still maintain that a lot of people call it Worcester sauce and be done - after all, and as the man says, it's made in the town of Worcester in Worcestershire!
Thank you! That’s how it’s pronounces where I live, but I was just on vacation in another U.S. state and someone tried to “correct” my pronunciation to “shire” We did not get to fisticuffs over it, but it stuck with me so had to Google the correct pronunciation to settle it for myself. 😊
Many names that include -cester are pronounced as just -ster. Examples: Glocester [Gloster] Leicester [Lester] Worcester [Worster] Shire is usually pronounced as sheer, so [worster-sheer]. It is likely that such names are residua of archaic English (perhaps middle English) and that they were once probably pronounced as they were written. Language evolves constantly.
I grew up in Massachusetts we had a nearby town to us called Worcester (the American version of it) so I pronounce the sauce almost the same as you, Where you say Woosta sheer sauce, I say Woosta shire (like where the hobbits live) sauce so we swap the ee for an I sound.
@@LDCkitchens I grew up in Boston, around 40 miles from American Worcester. Hearing everyone I’ve ever known butcher the word for the last 50 years, I’m relieved to have a definitive end to the matter!
@@REFRESHED21Phonetic pronunciation is pronouncing how it's spelt. Words like "cheese" are pronounced phonetically. Words like "English" are not. The Spanish word for English, "Ingles", is pronounced phonetically.
Thank you very much my friend ❤ I appreciate you today because it's actually pronounced just as it is spelled broken down into syllables ❤ I'll definitely be sharing this on my TikTok account for the people ❤❤ thank you 💕 Bec this was a war 🙏 and now it has ended ❤❤❤ thank you my friend ❤❤❤ps if you don't mind what town and state are you from? Country? Where is it truly made?
Wooster Sher/Sheer/Shire all sound right to me. First half matters a lot more. But I'm from Maine so take my opinion with a dash of Worcestershire sauce.
"worst-a-sure" is how i say it, if i try to make an english accent and say the word different ways it does just kind of go "wohst-a-shshshshshshsh" so i can see what they sort of say "wohst-sha"
“As somebody who actually lives in the town”… Me: poor fella! Hearing your hometown mispronounced ALL THE TIME😩 Great video. I’m Swedish. I don’t understand that this is such a big problem. Cheers! Edit to everyone struggling: learn how to pronounce Worcester to begin with. Forget about the “shire” part. Then you can say Worcester Sauce. Bit easier I think.
so my yr 8 home economics teacher pronounced it whoosh/ter/she/er and ive said it that way ever since... because it was fub... looks like whoosh was more woos... thanks for the heads up
Ah, well…. Depending on where they are they may have used Worcester sauce as we do in fact say that from one local to the next BUT… that has never been printed on a bottle to this day. It’s either been labelled as ‘Worcestershire Sauce’ or ‘Lea & Perrins’. As I held up so there you go 😊👍
See, even the people living there gave up on the name. Jumping over "rce" pronunciation and saying Wosteshire. JK, and thank you, this have been bugging me a long time :D
Yes, just like how you would pronounce Gloucester (gloster) and "Leicester" (lester). And of course, shire is obviously pronounced the same as in all the other counties.
wait, im from Kazakhstan and I think you are wrong u say 'worsteshire' which is kind of correct, but we do say worstershehshshsesherheshere sauce Thank you
