i think it would make more sense for key stats to be revealed first. No one starts scouting a corner by learning how well he sheds blocks, they are looking for coverages, so man and zone should always be revealed first

Having the older, retired NFL players as scouts is a great touch. Seeing Faneca, Houshmandzadeh, and Talib as scouts is so cool.

i think having a system where the scouts can become better based on your drafts would be great. say for 2-3 drafts you do really well, one of your scouts could also go up a tier allowing you to have better scouts than other teams since you have better drafts to make it more realistic since some teams have wayyyy better scouts

I feel like the 1st round should have 70% baseline at the end of the season, second round 60 and so on, cuz at the end of the day every 1st round pick is pretty well scouted by the whole league

I actually like this, on the old format it's easy to have the best drafts year in year out. this was feels like you may get some busts

only thing that sucks is Positions. so i have to have a scout that's dedicated to only Right or Left OLB. instead of OLB as a whole. not to mention most of those OLBs are probably gonna be EDGE Rushers smh

I kinda like how it's harder it should help indirectly balance the game a lot because now the user won't score all the best players since they can't program ai to draft properly lol

Rather than a "?" for stuff you don't know I'd like to see a range. I think the original mocks showed that. So you'd see "B-D" for a trait, and as the year went on that would narrow. You'd know though that it's not an A, or an F. A tier 3 scout would be more accurate faster through the year than a 2 or a 1.

I think it’s better when you don’t know much about anyone. Makes the draft more interesting especially in multi user leagues where EVERYONE is scouted in those.

I’m in year 25 of a Texans rebuild after waiting forever for this. Finally can start something else, although I may go Texans since trading Deshaun Watson for nothing and still winning the SB after a few good drafts was so satisfying.

Kinda annoys me how they put a “?” for anything not fully scouted. You should have a general idea of what the rating may be, but it could be wrong to very wrong. You scout a guy at least once or twice, you get a basic idea of what he can do. You’re not just going “oh idk how he is in man coverage” after two scouting trips 🤦🏼‍♂️

I might be dumb and not fully understand this, but it feels like they really let you capitalized on your first rounds picks, then 2-7 you just have to make a educated guess.

This is another feature, along with general team building, that would benefit from positional rebranding. Defense is simple - Interior lineman, edge rusher, linebacker, defensive back. That way you can draft guys with the abilities that suit what YOU want from a certain position. Even on offence, you could have tackle (including blocking stats for TEs), interior lineman (with snapping being a new attribute to differentiate between guards and centres), receivers (including pass catching stats for TEs), backs including FBs, QBs. Because there's no way a WR scout could miss someone like Pitts purely because of a listed position. Just by doing this alone, this current system would allow you to get more than 40% on a lot more players.

This is way better then the current system, though I agree with there needing to be 5 key players to scout/invite to workout instead of 3. I am happy that they made it harder, definitely feels a lot more like the real NFL draft and the offseason will be more involved now

This reminds me a lot of head coach 09 my favorite football game. They made the compromise on learning about more players by having to chose between which schools your scouts go to so you might miss out on some players but as long as you know the schools with plyers you want to look at you could get there

The fact that we only get a few of the players over 40% is so exciting. The draft is supposed to be very, very hard. Hitting on picks should be challenging! Can’t wait for tomorrow.

I love it. Shouldn’t be able to know a lot of peoples stats. If it were that easy folks would never bust. They did it right for once

My thing is this. This is a million times better considering I rather know 30-40% about a 6th rounder than absolutely nothing because I didn't have enough points to scout them. A step in the right direction

Personally, I feel the week 11 should be 10 players you can go scout and private workouts should be 5 so you can have 15 people at 100%

Honestly, I agree with you Bengal, this should be a happy middle, you dont get enough info for alot of the class to make a good call most of the time.

I feel like it's a decent start like you said it's hard to judge a big chunk of these guys.. and at 40% yes there is 5or6 attributes graded, which is more than the 3 we got to see in previous years, but the way it blocks out certain things makes it tough. Like a cb and showing man coverage but not zone

Good vid Bengal, I definitely agree with a lot of your criticisms. You said there should be 5 focus players, I'd say 10 is way better. I think that's what it is in 2k and they only have 2 rounds, we have 7 on Madden

It would be nice to be able cycle through player profiles using RT/LT or R2/L2. It would help for finding players athletic threshold faster. It helps a lot in the NHL series

I think it makes more sense for stats to be scaled in accuracy based off of scouting percentage. Like if a guys at 70% scouted, you’ll get a letter grade for all his ratings, but you’re maybe not sure how accurate some of those letter grades are. Kinda like chel. That way, you at least have an idea rather than knowing nothing.

Bengal was the one that taught me how to scout in Madden. Now I’m listening to him on this madden scouting system now.

Having the overall for rookies be hidden similarly to how dev traits are hidden until you hit a certain number of snaps could be cool so you play who plays well and not just the highest overall. You have to see how well they play and if they aren’t good they are off the bat, maybe you play a backup. Just a thought.

I agree we should know about more players. Finding gems down the board in late rounds is extremely satisfying. Unless you have your national scout in that area then doing this will be nearly impossible anymore.

Great video! I think the better way to do the reveal of the abilities (A, B, C+, etc), is to start by giving a wide range, like "B...D+ throw power" and then as you scout it narrows it down. It feels more realistic than just "You have zero clue about his deep accuracy, and now you know EXACTLY what his throw accuracy deep is". More scouting should equal a narrower range of outcomes. That's the thing that's still missing from scouting is probability.

In the old system you would only know 3 attribute grades, now at 40% you get 3. This is 1000% better, I want to be able to know things like run block for TEs for example and now I can know so so much more, this is going to be amazing

I love the system, but there's no way you shouldn't know the catching of pretty much every wr, maybe not their spec catch or all their route running, but catching should always be know. Same with carrying for RBs, Run/pass block for O-Line, etc. The main skills should be scouted first, so that you can evaluate who to take off the board. Alternatively, you should be able to tell your scouts what skills you're looking for. "I need you to go find a strong arm QB," and then they go and find a dude with a cannon. Either method fixes the problem.

I agree, I think each position should have 2-3 key stats that are the first unlocked, I.e coverages for cb, catching/short/med routes for wr/etc. then after that it goes a bit random. That way it ‘feels’ like your scouts are starting with the basics. I do actually like that as you go through the draft you know less about the prospects and draft more off athleticism. It needs a bit of tweaking, but once you get to the 6th/7th rounds a lot of teams are drafting for athletic ability/potential rather then some other factors, so it makes sense that in the sixth/seventh round you are more focused on that. Again, it does need some tweaking here and there but I think it is a (small) step in the right direction. I do think you idea of having more chances to focus on a specific player would be good, could give you a chance to either focus on a top round prospect, or maybe get a leg up on a later round prospect with intriguing stats/athleticism that you aren’t going to get a lot of info otherwise. Maybe instead of the mid season focus, you get one chance a week to ‘focus’ on one prospect starting week eight, and then the ‘workouts’ for three players in the off-season, that way you get a total of 13 chances to give out a boost, and gives you a bit more immersion, especially after the college season ends and scouting kind of stops progressing till the off-season.

I think that there should now be a scout role when you create the franchise so that you could get more involved

There was a running back in a draft I just had. His name was Jermaine Cummins. He is an 85 overall (not including morale) with Superstar dev. And I didn’t draft him

They should've given us a little more input on what attributes scouts target for certain positions. Like Aqib Talib in this video, a tier 2 CB scout, doesn't know coverage attributes for half the guys he scouted. We should be able to tell Talib to look for Man and Zone coverage first before things like strength and tackling.

I like that it brings much more difficulty to the draft. However, they should do something like NFL Head Coach 09: Big to small school focus by position during the season. At the end of the season you have "Pro-Days", although you'll have the pro day results for every prospect, you can only attend the pro days of some schools (because some pro days are the same day), etc.

great stuff - thanks for the content. The NFL 1st round bust rate is over 50%. Worse in other rounds..... so yeah I'd like to see the changes to make things easier to scout, draft, etc..... but it's safe to say real scouts don't know alot of these attributes as well.

Bengal, you can easily learn more about prospects: 1. You have to be sure to hire the correct scouts (especially the national one because they get to scout twice) 2. There are 2 days during the season and one day after the combine (Private Workouts) where you get to switch your scouts to scout other positions than their “preferred” one.

You should have a list of about 20-30 players within the first 3 rounds that you know you want. That being said, I think the minimum of 100% players should be about 10. I also agree, scouting should be based on certain position groups, not the individual positions. Good start, they just need to tune things a bit.

I’m definitely hoping that when the new NCAA comes out that we can transfer draft class players and it continues some of those characters stories or gives them one during the scouting process on Madden.

I gave feedback during the beta that EA needs to implement EDGE. That would remedy a lot of issues in the game.

I would either prefer the extra focus slots or just higher up the percentage for players overall

I think the change from the old scouting but definitely underwhelming but hopefully later updates to scouting will come

We a few weeks into our money league. Week 3 and I've found some late gems and have a decent amount of info on players. I'm actually really liking it.

While I agree it may be frustrating to not get the skills I want to get, I’m happy with some randomness in the draft. It’s been too easy to be really amazing at drafting for too long. There should be some unknown and randomness to it with only a few certainties

When they delayed the scouting past september i just started my franchise and im good with that decision.

It would be interesting if you could choose the stats that get revealed as you scout them. If you are looking for a fast man corner you could reveal the man portion and the speed portion because that is what youre looking at. Then it might be easier to narrow down your draft board as you scout players because the #4 CB might be the best man corner in the draft. or something like that. Idk

I think they should tell you the range of letter grades of key skills after you've scouted certain %. Like if you have a CB that is 40-50% scouted you know he will have C-B man coverage and B-A zone until you've scouted them to 75%. At that point it would say he really has B man and B zone coverage. That way when it got to the later rounds you'd still have an idea of how good or bad someone might be. They already do a range, I don't expect it would be too hard to change to this. That being said idk how hard it is for them to make updates.

The ratings they should show are ratings we can know from watching them play. Like all the accuracy, we would know the accuracy. But we might not know awareness, traits, throw under pressure. Basically less intangibles bc they don’t always translate.

@39:40 As an example of what you are saying Bengal. Marco Kramer is 59% scouted however we know 5/18 attributes so really only 28%. So I agree with you that we don't know nearly enough about these prospects and this "40% scouted" rating is essentially meaningless

I think it's a solid first iteration by EA but definitely needs some tuning. In real life, sure scouts don't know EVERYTHING about EVERY player but they definitely have a clearer picture by draft day than what we get here. I think the right way to implement this is to have 50% baseline by end of year for all prospects. 65% for Day 3 projected guys, 75% for day 2, 90% for 1st rounders (with the amount of coverage the draft gets, the average hardcore fan probably has that knowledge, let alone professional scouts). The super focus and private workouts would then be used to get the clearest picture on the guys you're most interested in. On top of that scouts should have accuracy ratings and be able to be developed. So teams that have bad scouts or dont develop their front office have bad drafts, just like real life

I would agree. If it's like 60% scouted then at least that same percentage of attributes should be displayed.
