Welcome to this video tutorial on how to screed concrete. In this tutorial, we will provide tips and techniques to help you achieve perfect results for laying down flat surfaces or gradients. We’ll also explain why it’s important to take the time to learn these techniques and systems before taking on any concrete installation.
Screeding is the process of leveling and smoothing the surface of wet concrete after it’s been spread. To screed properly, you must be able to identify the high and low spots on the surface and shave them off. A common tool used for screeding is a straight-edged board, like a 2-inch by 4-inch board, which is dragged or pushed across the concrete to get a flat, even surface.
To start, always ensure the surface is wet enough by spraying some water on the concrete or working it in with a float. This ensures the surface is easy to work with. With the straight-edged board, start at one end of the concrete and drag it towards the other end using a rhythmical back-and-forth motion. Make sure your body stays centered while doing this and move your arms back at a constant rate. As you move along the concrete, you will begin to see low spots, or depressions, in the surface. This is where you need to apply more pressure on your straight-edged board to even out the surface.
It’s also important to note that you should never screed more than one square meter of concrete at a time. Doing so could create inconsistencies in surface texture and could also cause a slight difference in the grade of the surface. To keep the grade consistent throughout the entire screeding process, make sure to check the grade frequently on different sections of the concrete.
Finally, if you’re planning on using stamped or stenciled concrete, you will also need to consider a few additional steps when screeding. After screeding, you need to use a float to bring up any low points and press down any high points in the surface. Doing this will ensure your stamp or stencil design will come out looking uniform and consistent throughout the entire area.
By following these steps and techniques, you can guarantee a perfect finish for your concrete installation. Thanks for tuning into this tutorial on how to screed concrete. We hope that you are now well equipped to tackle any future concrete installation project!Be sure to thoroughly plan out the project before beginning and use the right tools and supplies for the job. Also make sure to do regular checks throughout the screeding process and be sure to have a level surface when you reach the end for a perfect finish.
We wish you all the best of luck in your next concrete installation project! Remember that by taking your time and following these steps, you can achieve a smooth, even surface with a perfect finish. Thanks for watching!
