IDK if this was added anywhere else in comments but I was trying to make multiple shirts with the same screen, the first one would come out amazing then the second one would have hardly any ink transfer to the shirt. After doing some digging online I figured out that A) the Speedball ink I used is water soluble (which makes thin layers dry fast) B) My thin layer of ink was drying and clogging up the screen holes because I waited too long between shirts around 5-10 minutes. So lesson learned have all the shirts you want to press ready to go and don't wait more than 5 min between shirts and also don't rush the shirts and forget to cover the registration marks or circle hole at the top between shirts (luckily the ink washes out but I forgot to cover the circle oops!). Thanks Jennifer for your hard work! You are my go to when I need cricut help.
I also did multiple shirts and ran into this problem even when I moved quickly! I fixed it by carefully cleaning the non-vinyl side of the screen after the 3rd or 4th use with a toothbrush and water and VERY carefully dabbing at both sides with a paper towel.
Keep a spray bottle with water handy. Spritz between shirts and cover with damp cloth to prevent premature drying. Or use plastisol ink. Plastisol is much messier, so more care is needed. But it doesn't dry and clog your screens so fast. You will need a plastisol cleaner (or acetone) to clean. But your tradeoff is longer working time between prints.
I've been doing this for years without the screen. You just cut your design normally onto adhesive vinyl, stick it onto the shirt directly after weeding, and squeegee some paint. Easy
You definitely make the best tutorial videos! I got my screen printing kit and paints over 6 months ago but haven't used them yet. Now I feel like I can finally go ahead with your straightforward video.
I was definitely afraid before watching your video but you made it look so much easier. I'm going to order my screens now after watching you do this. Now just need to learn how to make larger images
Merci beaucoup, cordialement.
@@JenniferMaker Hello Jennifer, even if your videos are not in French, I love watching them. Your dress and your smile attracts me. You guys are so lovely to listen to and it's so well explained and detailed that I don't even have to go get another video as they are really accomplished on the theme. Thank you for your know-how which is very useful to me and I can tell you that for a year that I have had my machine I have learned really really well thanks to you. Cordially thank you very much.
Thank you so much for your tutorial this is really going to help me a lot How can I reuse my screen design I am new at this and I am making multiple aprons with the same design.
Tried this method and it is pretty neat what one can do. Just gotta be patient. Instructions are easy to folow. Thank you. Practice makss perfect. I do like it better than htv. 😅😊
This is awesome! You always explain things throughly and well. I can’t wait to start screen printing. Question, do you have a tutorial for screen printing a hat?
Late to the party. This is a good instructional video. I just want to add that a heat gun greatly speeds up the time for the second layer. You don't need to cure the ink, but just hit it long enough with the heat gun to dry to the touch. You can apply the second layer in a matter of seconds.
Jennifer, this is the very first video of yours that I have seen! Fantastic job! I know how much effort goes into the editing process of a video, even for a short simple type topic. I can see that you put a lot of time and effort into making a very helpful and easy to follow video! Watching this video, I feel you thoroughly explained every step along the way! This video DID create a few questions though. If I have a shirt with 3 or 4 colors and the ink takes...we'll say a day to dry, is there anyway to "force" it to dry quicker? Could I use the heat press between each different color? Could I use a heat gun to speed up the drying process? (of course without scorching the shirt material). If I have shirts with 4 colors, I don't really want to wait 4 or 5 days to get the project completed. Anyway, awesome material, I am looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Thanks, Jennifer! As usual, an excellent tutorial. Question: the screen print kit you share includes inkjet transparency film. What is that used for please?
thank you for the tutorial, I have followed the same process. But my second shirt's print is faded, the 3rd shirt is way too faded. Can you tell me how to avoid this, I think the ink on the screen is drying, but I dont know how to not let it dry.
I was able to fix this problem by carefully cleaning the non-vinyl side of the screen after the 3rd or 4th use with a soft toothbrush and water and VERY carefully dabbing at both sides with a paper towel
When I do this the ink seeps through the t shirt is this ok? It doesn’t go to the back as I have a piece of card blocking it but the pattern clearly comes through the shirt whereas yours looked very neat. Brilliant video as always thank you xxx
Great video! One question though, why did it look like their was a orange colored shadow of the screen box after 1st and 2nd layers? It was gone after pressing. Did i miss a step?
I don't know an exact count for you. It would depend on the handling I suppose as to how many uses you can get out of it and how intricate the design is.
Hello Jennifer, First - another amazing tutorial!!! Can't get enough. However, I cannot seem to find the tutorial on making my own DOUBLE stencil. I can make the SINGLE but I would like to make 2 different color stencils and I don't seem to know how to align my images so that they don't overlap. I feel silly as I know this should be easily. Please help
This tutorial has double colors. I only have these two tutorials on screen printing. jennifermaker.com/how-to-screen-print-a-shirt-with-cricut/. jennifermaker.com/diy-screen-printed-t-shirts/
Yes I do, Maria! I wrote your other post but I will copy and paste it here as well. 😊 Hi, Maria! Of course I remember you! How could I forget? I'm happy you remember me, too! I hope you are doing well. I'm doing great! If you're interested in joining our team, check out the openings at jennifermaker.com/team and apply! I'm not directly responsible for our team's hiring, so I'm not sure about the full-time/part-time thing at this point. But there's definitely some openings you should check out -- lots of info on the pages linked there. Jennifer jennifermaker.com/team/
Maybe I missed it somewhere, but if you want to make several shirts with the same design, can you wash the stencil and reuse, or do you need to make a new one each time?
Thanks for a great video - it is SO tempting to give this a try! 😃 Is this something that requires good ventilation, the way that infusible ink does? If so, is it just during the heat pressing part, or the whole time you're using the ink? Thanks again so much!
Thanks so much for the video, you definitely do make things look a lot easier. One question tho, does the easy press do the same thing that the light would do for screen printing?
If this is your first time screen printing, have a few test shirts ready and cut extra copies of your designs, just in case. Getting the ink amount and squeegee pressure just right takes some practice, so don't try it out on your favorite shirt right away! Here is the blog post with more details. jennifermaker.com/how-to-screen-print-a-shirt-with-cricut/
@@JenniferMakerdo you practice on just Michael’s tees or some under shirts? I placed a flat cardboard inside and I know others use wood. I’m not sure if that makes a difference?
Thanks for the video it's super usefull ! I was wondering though : can I use removable vinyl to make a stencil ? If I need to remove the stencil from the screen, I guess the removable materiel will be easier to peel right ?
Can you do multiple shirts in one color without rinsing the screen between every shirt? I have 60 shirts I'm trying to screenprint in just white. I'm hoping this will be quicker and more affordable than HTV. I will only have 2 screens to work with.
It sounds like you have a big project ahead of you. Yes, you can screenprint multiple shirts in one color without rinsing the screen between every shirt. Since you're using just white ink for all 60 shirts, this should indeed be quicker and more affordable than using HTV.
You can try it to see if all of the paint will come off but this method uses permanent vinyl. jennifermaker.com/how-to-screen-print-a-shirt-with-cricut/
Question…wanting to use images, saying like”crafting is my therapy” or “real estate is my hustle” for sell or craft shows, wood signs, pro sport logos, etc…how do I do this without copyright/trademark infringement or legal issues? Wanting to start a small business in the near future. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
@@JenniferMaker I have a question about the ink, you say that the ink stains the sink when washing, but I live in low-rental housing so I don't have a garden to wash my equipment. I have a stainless steel sink will the ink stain it or is there a way to get it off? Thank you for your feedback and this wonderful screen printing lesson. great day
