Here's a new video about my updated process for screen printing guitar pedal enclosures. I got a new screen for my updated models and use a better technique for less misprints and more consistent printing.
Don't hesitate to ask any questions, I'll be happy to help!
I used the following material:
Ink: fr.cplfabbrika...
Hinges: fr.cplfabbrika...
Squeegee: fr.cplfabbrika...

Seems like you've refined your process in a positive direction ! Nice work ! This is a good motivator for me to set up a silkscreen station. Thanks for the excellent video !

If you do not mind me asking a few questions. What type of ink are you using? Are the pedal enclosures you are screen printing on powder coated? Thanks in advance.

Great video, thanks for sharing. One question - the paint you are using, have you tried that on a spray painted surface? I'm just asking in terms of the durability of the surface if you make a mistake and have to wipe the paint off.

thanks for sharing. those informations are precious. I saw on a previous video that you also use white spirit. what do you use it for?

Would it be a better idea to just have a permanent fixture under the press? So you can just do the lining up of one big fixture once instead of having to line up one pedal everytime you need to print? Just a thought. But cool looking pedals!
@splitsevin
@splitsevin Год назад
Have you considered using individual screens for each pedal? You could use a jig for each enclosure size and not have to worry about alignment issues as much potentially (although it looks like they're coming out pretty great anyhow!)
@SignalCheyne
@SignalCheyne Год назад
I was going to switch to individual screens for ease of clean up and quicker printing. As it is now I have to clean the screen between each model and wait for it to dry. My only reason for not doing that is cost... With this new technique I haven't had any alignment issues so far.

@@SignalCheyne I hope you get to the point that you're making so many pedals it makes sense to invest in those individual screens. That's a good problem to have!

You drill your housing afterwards? Is this to protect your screen? Any problems with the metal flecks damaging your paint? (Thank you so much!)

Hi there. Is there a specific type of screen I need to tell the place to make for me? As I understand, for this kind of printing I can’t use the same type as would be used for t-shirts and such. Thanks!

Did you make the screen printing "raster" yourself? I mean photochemical UV stuff. Or you buy ready made screen printing frames with your graphics?

What kind of ink do you use for the pedals? Is it the same kind you use for shirts and posters or do they have a special kind of ink from metal?

Do you by any chance know if the powder coated enclosures from Tayda are the same kind of polyester ones that you use? I plan on screen printing some soon but wasn’t sure if the Tayda enclosures I use would work. Great video, really helpful. 👍🏼
@SignalCheyne
@SignalCheyne Год назад
Tayda enclosures work just fine :) Some colors I've had problems with- the candy yellow has a top coat that doesn't allow proper adhesion with my solvent based ink. All the matte colors are really good as long as you have your technique down because it's not possible to buff out the mistakes. Same with the ball silver color, it's hard to print on. The chromium is hard to work with. I haven't tried any of the sand textured ones yet.

@cb24203 Год назад
@@SignalCheyne thank you so much for the reply. I’m going to be using the “Cream” color from Tayda and printing only black ink. You think the slightly glossy Cream color will be ok for printing or should I stick with Matte finishes only?

I have a question. If you make a mistake while printing, how do you remove the ink from the pedal without damaging the powder coat?
@SignalCheyne
@SignalCheyne Год назад
I use solvent based ink that adheres really well to the powder coating so there's no room for error. The ink bonds to the paint. If there's a small mistake, like a small overflow or a little smudge I can usually buff it out with a little elbow grease and some polywatch polish. If it's a big mistake- messing up the alignment for example- then the housing is trashed.

This seem very great, there is no need for clear coating the housings after screen printing ? how long does it take for the ink to dry on the housing ? Do you know any webstore in Europe to buy the frame and ink and other things needed for screenprinting housings similar to yours ?
@SignalCheyne
@SignalCheyne 2 года назад
The ink dries at room temp in about 10 or 15 minutes. There's no need for a top coat as the ink is solvent based and bonds to the polyester powder coating. I got the solvent based ink from CPL Fabbrika in Italy. The screen was burned by my local print shop. Contact the ones in your area for quotes, should be around 70€ to have a screen made.

In the previous video he mentioned he had it made by a print shop rather than doing it himself as the results are more professional.

Hey sorry for the late reply! I have it burned by a local print shop. I didn't want to do it myself because the result wouldn't be as good as a pro shop. Plus it would mean investing in a bunch more equipment- burning table/lamps, emulsion, printer and film for the positive...

Great video!! Do you let a little space between the pedal and the screen print?
@SignalCheyne
@SignalCheyne Год назад
Yes, you have to leave a bit of space between the screen and the housing- this is called off contact. I try to get my off contact around 2mm but it's really trial and error :)

@SignalCheyne
@SignalCheyne 2 года назад
With the solvent based ink that I use there's no need to spray a top coat over the ink. It bonds to the powder coating and is really durable.

Hi. What is the cloth you used? Nylon or polyester? And what is the ink? PP or Epoxy(2pack)?
@SignalCheyne
@SignalCheyne 2 года назад
Hello! The ink is solvent based from CPL Fabbrika in Italy. It's really easy to work with as it dries at room temp and is durable enough to not need a top coat. No idea what material the screen is, I just buy it from my local print shop :)

Good video man, but how much is the gap between the pedal and the screen?
@SignalCheyne
@SignalCheyne 2 года назад
Good question! I use about 2 mm of off contact. It's what I found works best for me. But it depends on the ink and screen count. As long as the screen can release from the housing as soon as the squeegee passes it's good.

Thanks! I had it made at my local screen printing shop. There were 5 or so in my area and the closest one was also coolest on the phone so I went with him. He was nice about the whole thing and gave me a lot of pointers when I started March 2021. So I went back for the second screen without hesitation :)

I don't see why not. You just have to figure out a jig for the buckle to sit in.
