Can you please talk about what it is like to be a lefty surgeon? I'm a lefty that is hesitant to go into surgery because I'm afraid that it will be an inconvenience for my right hand colleagues.

I worked in surgery for 16 years. I'm a RN, but I scrubbed and assisted a lot too. When you have your own preference cards, it will be marked that you're left-handed. The experienced scrubs will remember and load your needles and pass instruments correctly. I never saw where it made a difference if 2 surgeons were working together. We all learned to work with both hands. It's a necessity. Even I couldn't waste time by switching hands to, for instance, suction, clamp, or cut. Good luck!
