What do I use to seal my concrete containers is a question I get all the time. In this video I go over a water based sealer that I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a non toxic sealer to use on their concrete items.
This sealer works great for candle containers as well and is resistant to the heat!

Thank you so much for sharing! It's nice to know there's a eco friendly option for sealing concrete candles. You always so good at explaining different options for candles. I enjoy your channel so much! Your videos are not just entertaing, but informative. I never feel like I'm wasting my time, like I do with some channels. You give great, honest advice and I've learned a ton when it comes to using concrete as a choice for containers. What's great is you can customize your containers to fit your business! I'm using concrete as the containers for my son's 2022 wedding. I'll have to start making them this fall as their guest list keeps growing! I think were up to 175 and I'm making soap and small candles as their thank you gifts for guests. 175 is a lot of containers, wax and fragrance! The soap will be slightly less expensive. Oh and I'm also making the large containers for their table settings. I need to have all this done on top of my regular orders and the two businesses I supply candles and skin care for. That's why I need to start in the fall pouring containers. I only have 10 molds. I may need to buy a few more! Thank you for all the advice. This looks like exactly what I needed to seal them with. It gives me plenty of time to purchase supplies. Jill Gross

Great video!! I wanted to share my experience. I have been using this sealer a while now.. the small jar will cost $30 with shipping. The larger jar is the way to go if your making a lot. The sealer also gets tacky and leaves a layer you have to remove when re-opening the jars. What I found with this sealer is that it takes much longer to dry than the others. If you dont use 3 coats the wax will seep into the concrete right past the sealer so your using much more product. The sealer leaves lines if you dont get a good brush or sponge. The sealer leaves a super shiny glossy finish which I really don't like, I hope they could make a matte version soon. If you do not let the concrete jars dry very very well for a couple days then the sealer will peel right off. Everything must be extra dry. When my candles are done burning and I want to re use the containers.. when I go to clean out the wax and or remove the wicks the sealer peels off where you remove the wick sticker and sometimes continues to peel much like a face mask does. If done correctly it works very very well I just went through a lot of mistakes trying to work with it. Earth safe so it seems worth the extra effort. Despite all of this effort and no matter how great these look and smell I still can't sell many tho. Im glad others are having success. Maybe its the location of my booth. Im basically giving them away as gifts since I can't sell them. I have had much more luck selling the empty concrete as planters and adding drain holes. I sell a ton of empty concrete planters but rarely sell a candle. Lol. Im about to get a real job again cause im broke. 😄 good luck out there. Your channel rocks!!

@tradergirl7067

@@eletea9798 just because I can't sell them doesn't mean you won't be able to. I am not selling online. I have an indoor booth at a large flea market. This market is insanely busy and one of the largest in the state. There is literally a line of people at the cash register all day every day. But no one will buy my concrete candles. So disappointing! So much money and effort I put into this for almost 2 years now. I figured that the online forums are flooded with people trying to sell the same type of candles so I wanted to try in person. When you see them they are gorgeous impressive and smell amazing. I have a ton of different molds and scents. Doesnt matter. And when I do sell one its always the same scent, Nag Champa. People like that scent here! Lol. I do sell alot of wax melts tho. Good luck please don't let me discourage you.

Hi there, quick question. When using the second part of the wick, if it is still a good length for the candle but doesn't go over the top of the edge of the container, how do you keep the wick straight? I hope that question made sense. Thanks for the heads up on this sealer. I think it'll be a game changer for many people!

Hi! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I'm a big fan! Im a beginner at making concrete jars. I'm curious, do you water bathe them before applying the sealant? I read that soaking them in water will allow the cement to cure better, and make for stronger candle vessels. I tried soaking 2 of my concrete jars after demolding, and they came out rough, lots of tiny holes, and I lost the smoothness. The rest of the jars which I set aside without the water bath seem fine. I have yet to test them though with a lighted candle. Thank you so much in advance.
@WizeOwlCandles
@WizeOwlCandles 2 года назад
Hi! Thanks for watching! I personally do not water bathe I didn't see a difference at all :) I do let my container set for a good 24 hours before applying sealer though

Can we use modge podge instead? From the description of the sealer you used and modge podge, they both seem to be the same. And with modge podge we get options like matte, glossy, etc. But also, neither modge podge or this sealer say they are heat proof so, are they truly safe to use on the inside of candle vessels?

Aren't your holders made of cement - not concrete? Cement is a component of concrete which also includes sand and an aggregate.

"Cement All" is what I use. "Cement All" is concrete :) so yes you are correct concrete is a mixture which is why I use it.
